This thread reminds me of lunches in Sweeney and Todds in Reading years ago....they did some great pies and the place was always busy...If you could supply pies to some bars on a small scale and work up from there you might do alright ...nothing better than a big steak and oyster pie with a large glass of red..... or a pint of real ale . Would it be possible to find somebody .... a bar owner perhaps... who would come to an arrangement and let you make them on their premises at first to see how it works out ?

My cousins daughter had the fuel stolen out of her car over the weekend when parked up overnight near Southampton . Bad enough taking her petrol but to do it they drilled holes in the tank then after draining the fuel blocked them up with blue tack ...so she had a new tank to pay out for as well ... A locking petrol cap is no good now it seems...what have you got to do to keep the fuel in your car these days ?

Clair..Wooly.......thanks for putting that site on ....it will come in handy I got caught for 1.51 just outside Lucon a couple of weeks ago so its nice to see its coming down

It would appear some of my fellow villagers here in Dorset must have done just what you have Wiskersnatch as by 10 this morning the garage was closed for fuel ...none left ....Those who did not panic buy.... now have a 16 mile return journey to fill up this weekend .....so they can find fuel to get themselves to work next week.......I am sure many will not be happy knowing some people will be looking at drums of fuel stored in their sheds next week when the supply is back on ...fuel that could have avialable for many today ..I wonder what the fire departments think about all these people who are storing fuel on their premises in plastic containers. ?

Thank you Dragonrouge for letting us know that the Vendee is fine at the moment ...I hope it stays that way as in my area so many people have to rely on a short tourist season to make their money mostly from campers . thousands of them so lets hope there is no disruption that results on them staying nearer home .

Oh well ! ...you cant win them all.......as the oyster beds are just down the road from me looks like I am going to be forced to eat them......again !

Going down for a month this Sunday ...car is going to be full as carting a brush cutter down plus all the other gear ..dont have room for ration packs ......will just have to live on moules and chips if need be !

Vegemite is OK Jura ..........but you can leave the beetroot out of the Aussie burgers for me !

I think the 38,000 who have been made unemployed in the past three months taking the total to 1.6 million would like to know as well ......

Way to go Logan........I look at the decorative gas fire in my UK home and although the coals look good glowing and give off some heat there is a fair few bob going up the chimney with the flames ....Given the gas prices now and in the future ... I am thinking it may come to my bringing a wood burner back from France and puttting it in ..they seem to be cheaper there .There is a lot of people round me that have wood to sell..hurdle makers.. tree surgons and the like ..I think that many UK housholders are going to be forced to turn down the central heating and look at wood burners soon .....import business here ?

Having just returned from 6 weeks living with Australians I discovered that any problems encountered seemed to be answered with " She'll be right " and "No worries " ......so you now you know what to tell them if they come to you with any !

Where I am we only have one garage serving an area of about 12.000 people in ours and surrounding villages ..and its Shell its about 8 miles to the next one ...I bet there is a packed forecourt now !.

As this evenings news has informed us of a pending strike by some tanker drivers this coming weekend and the Governement is impressing upon us the need NOT to panic buy fuel and create shortages .......We are not going to fill the car up now when we normally buy half a tank are we ? .. we are not going to follow our French cousins and take a gerry can to the pump as well are we ? .....Watch the garages tomorrow they will be queing round the block...........that news item was a cleaver move !

Just an observation this one ..... All my life I have worn a watch cant imaging not doing so ...but I have noticed from experience with the teenagers within my family that they have no interest is doing the same ... I have offered to buy them watches they have declined ....Their mobile tells them the time they are never without one..... and have no interest in wearing a wristwatch ....Is this a trend with teenagers today ...do yours rely on a mobile to tell them the time ?

I am glad to see that St Jean de Monts is top of this list as a while back they had a problem with campervan users parking up at one end of the prom and inconsiderate so and so's were taking to dumping their chemical toilet contents into the sea by night ...They must have come down hard on that practice....thankfully . If its quiet beaches you want then the beach at the La Faute S Mer end of the streatch between there and La Tranche in a good one...Park under the treees near the garden center walk over the open ground through the dunes onto the beach ...loads of room ...If its a pic- nic lunch in the shade under the trees in the forrest ... then then a few yards onto the beach.... Longeville is the one ....Contratulations to the Vendee ... and they let us park for free ! .......we are lucky people !

I looked at this a few years ago and came to the conclusion that the French paint designed to do the job in the varied weather conditions their shutters are subjected to was the one to choose ...Its guaranteed for 10 years and mine still looks good where the south facing window frames of my house in Dorset painted with the stuff with the dog on it only two years ago does not look anywhere near as good ....I know the French stuff is very expensive... but ....I thought painting shutters once every 10 years was worth paying out for .

Feed hose pipe down run ....turn on and leave it ...give them some swimming lessons ....they might swim or surf off into your neighbours field to dry out and stay there !

The country to the North of France and a bit off to the right sends a lot of her campers and caravanners to France for hols ....They come fully kitted out with loads of electrical gadgets and many of them and need more than one hook up to power them all ....That is my experience as an ex caravaner so when the site supply blows ....look for the guy with the two hook ups.... he is probably running a dimplex oil filled radiator in his caravan at the same time as the TV off his sat dish and freeview box while is wife has the microwave fired up along with the chip fryer doing dinner ......You dont wear clogs do you powerdiesel ?

What gets me at the moment is the stuff about pre existing medical conditions they lay down as a condition of cover...You can feel as fit as a butchers dog and attend a gym every day ..but if your doctor has put you on a statin as advised by the governement these days as a preventative measure if your cholestral is up a bit .....and...If because of your age your blood pressure is slightly up and he also puts you somthing to keep it down ....( and as a result its been fine years .)... you are still in trouble getting full cover as these are medications you have to declare as prescribed you in the 2 years prior to your application for cover ....Then watch the premium shoot up ....if they will cover you..

Our daughter has just got this deal.....2 adults one child and the hire of a small car for a week in July total . £301 28 . Fly out Ryan Air Bournemouth / Nantes ........ They collect a car at airport and 72 miles later are on the door step ....
Out on Britanny ferries fast cat Poole / Cherbourg back on the Barflur same week is £307 taking their car ...+ fuel + 5 hours drive each way .If its only a week you want ...and you can travel light..... . and put up with an economy size hire car .......it could be worth checking out if its better to leave the car at home and fly down .

Lots of rocks round the coastline at Pornic so if you want a good place to swim from ....follow the coast road through the built up area to the south side of the harbour entrance..sticking as close to the sea as possible . There is a little sandy cove sheltered from the wind with a bar restaurant at the top of the zig zag that leads down to the beach...its a very nice spot tucked in under the cliffs (I think its before you get to La Bernerie en Retz .) a real sun trap ... Lots of camping sites just out of town on the main road to Nantes . Lots of eating places in town over looking the harbour .

Tagines ........The in the oven or on the hob with a defuser.ones made in plain teracotta ...glazed except for the bottom .....in the big super / hyper markets from about 12 euros depending on size....The serving ones Gi-Fi I noted had a big range of them also.... not expensive . The Supermarket one I use does tenderise meat well ....

I have relatives that have bought stainless steel pepper and salt mills ...You press a button and they grind the pepper and salt but the real surprise is they also light up ...I assume LED's fitted round the grinder illuminate your meal while they are working .....I have not bought any as knowing my luck there would pe a power cut during dinner and we would end up with a trail of pepper to the kitchen while I found the candles .

There must be hundreds of people today confidently driving on the roads of France who have Sunday Driver to thank for the guidance and information he freely gives ...I know I am one of them .and hope he and his wife recover fully from this terrible accident and he is soon back with us .
A Ryanair moneyspinner maybe?
