  1. Last time I was in Nice the pavements were covered in dog mess ....you could see of an evening madam dressed in her house coat coming out of the  apparments to let the pooch  crap on the pavement ..The fines are not big enough...  if they are ever levied  ...A 1.000E  annual  licence fee to keep a dog with the only exception being for the blind and sheep dogs would result in the clean up of the steets ... pretty quick I think .

  2. They are just as bad in Dorset....be it in France or the country areas of the UK I think the lack of public transport is in the mind of many doctors who should tell some people to pack driving  up but they dont ......In my village in Dorset I know of one guy who kept hitting the cerb......waiting to go in for cateract opperations .....one guy who could not turn his head ...had mirror on a stick he shoved out of the window to see who was coming from the left before he went over cross roads...and a neighbour..He has.just been done for speed on the Bournemouth spur road ......As he told me and the police ....he was in a hurry to get to the hospital as he was late for an appointment .....thats why he was doing 91 ......six years more than his age .... Its the same in France ....there are people who should not be on the road ...but who is going to tell them to stop driving ...old French tractor drivers ....give them a wide berth !

  3. Fly with Ryan Air's  Australian  equivilant Jetstar in the row where the emergency exit is and you get a briefing at check in !

I am over 6 foot and choose the rows with exits  for leg room...You have to declare that you are willing to assist the crew in the event of an emergancy and that you are capable of unlocking the window and throwing 35 kilos of door out of the aircraft if need be  ...In the event of an emergancy it would go like a frizzbee !....... May this year  a big Aussie sat next to me and said  "You know you are sitting in the most dangerous seat on this aircraft "  I said "Is that right " he said "Yes mate .....you are between me and the 8loody door ! "    an enjoyable flight in good companythat one ......

  4. Google "Revenge of Ebay customer sold a faulty laptop "  Seems an Iranian student sold a non working lap top on ebay and then  tried to say he had left the country when contacted by the purchaser .....The buyer took the hard drive out and the contents he put on the internet....along with publishing his dodgy CV's and the porn He emailed all the contacts on his dddress book and directed them to the site ...His dad is not happy ...  great move !

  5. Does  anybody use Jajah to make calls ....they quote France to UK  1.9 pence / min .......from Landline  10. 7 pence / min  from mobile

You connect via going on line  give them your number  and the number you are calling they act as an exchange...your phone rings you pick up and hear the other phone ringing then on answer you make your call ...They text back a dedicated number for you if you use a mobile to save  for the person you have called.......... and next time  you call it up from "contacts " and away you go ......I am yet to sign up with them and would like to hear from anybody who uses them...Their web site  advertises the calls you make from overseas will be at local call rates and loads of other stuff    .....JAJAH    sorry cant put the link on for you.......I am sure sombody will though !  I should imagine you could set up all the people you need to call with their dedicated  Jajah numbers into a mobile easy enough
  6. I believe the legal age for sex in Vietnam is 18.................They have hundreds of thousands of prostitutes and they say 30% of them are under 16.....Given their history of war and a country full of  visiting troops ....and the devistation .....you can see how it has come about ....for some of these women having  sex must have been the means of  survival for them and their families and its now a way of life for many

  7. Its not just a question of poverty that puts these girls of a very young age into the hands of men for sex...it could be in their culture...In Australia for instance aborigional girls can be "promised " by their parents  to someone at an age we would consider it  illegal to have sex...The authorities have a big problem dealing  with this as many will not accept  the "White " law  over their traditional way of life ...How many aborigional   " pedophiles  "  end up in the Australian courts ? .....I dont know the answer but I would imagine  not many ....Its the likes of Gadd  that take advantage of this  .....Look what happened on Pitcain Island for example .....

  8. One of the papers suggested we would be certain gold winners at synchronized binge drinking  ! Now there is  a sport Ernie ...couple of hours on the ale  then onto the BMX bikes .... include in it the high diving  pool     ....... got to be worth watching .!
  9. If he turns up at the closing ceremony of the Olympics ......will the press be crowding round Gordon Brown to talk about London 2012......I dont think so !  this could be a major publicity stunt for glitter .....and a red face for the PM..
  10. So according to that report it means  the Police Officer was  sent out with no authority to do anything in Bankok or anywhere else....  He  now comes home while Glitter goes on round the world if he feels like it .  If he could not bring him back in handcuffs ...and it seems he could not as  there was no offence outstanding in the UK ...then what was he doing there ? .....This is a joke and put together by the big collection of jokers who are working  in the Home Office today  I think ! .....Can this governement get anything right ?
  11. Why does it need a Brittish  Police Officer to fly to Vietnam to oversee his release and accompany him home to the UK all at our expense ....I would a have thought that a call as to what plane he was put on and meet him on the tarmac on arrival was  all that was required ....he cant leg it somewhere at 30.000 feet can he !

  12. Why to dog owners think their dogs want  to be on the beach....running into the waves for sticks and balls  ? Its not done  for the dogs benefit  ..Its  so they can show off their pet to people who would rather not have it among them while they try and enjoy  some time on the beach ...

Its the owners who are on display .."Look at me ....look at what I can get this dog to do "   I am sure the dog would rather be in a field  trying to smell out the rabbits and rolling in cow pats as they do and then wiping it off their coats over the car seats and the furniture ....Shaking wet dogs ..sand.... and people covered in sun tan lotion do not go together and consideration for  people comes  first...not dogs !

  13. Pierre    I think you are right I am yet to see anybody in France pick up after a dog.....as for the beach...There is a big notice  forbidding dogs on La Tranche beach but typically nobody seems to take any action when people still take their dogs on .....Last time we were on the beach  we watched an alsation digging in the sand and chucking it over two young  girls lying in the sun....The kids didnt  have the nerve to say say anything to the owner sitting nearby watching it .......Who is supposed to enforce these dog and beach regulations anyway ?....Dogs on beaches ..... they are a 8loody nuisance ..
  14.  Cant bring back frozen food ?  ...... We have done it .....but it takes a little more preperation.....My wife wrapps the frozen items well in layers of newspaper and uses lots of the cool keep blocks in the  "chilly bin " we also use the  padded cool  bags  like the tesco ones and the day  before we leave she puts the whole  loaded bag in the chest freezer in the garage.... It normally takes from 5am to about 4pm French time to do the  crossing and drive down to the South Vendee....we find the meat  is still frozen solid on arrival to go straight into our freezer there ...I dont have one but I should imagine the cool boxes that plug in the car cigar sockets must help as well  .

  15. Gastines .........I will check out  Sturtons ..never been there  ..thanks ....I note tonights news item the big UK  supermarkets are dropping prices in an effort to win back us "deserters " who have taken our cash to the cheaper ones like Lidl  ...Money talks !..... I  now await Super U doing the same .........

  16. Being on a fixed income like so many on this forum .I have found myself trying to keep to my budget by changing our shopping habits ....We have taken both in the UK and in France to doing a Lidl shop every other month instead of sticking with Super U and Sainsbury's all the time ....it saves ..and we tend to favour one restaurant when we eat out now where we know we get a great meal at  good value.rather than look at menus in others ..and we eat in more .....I am not going to cut back on the amount of visits I make to France each year....but I wonder if others are ?  My son has SORN'd one of his cars and now goes to work on a Kawasaki  motor bike  so he enjoys having to save on fuel costs ....I have the licence still but my wife will not permit me to  have one of them to save on fuel ...pity .... .
  17. Tegwini..............You are not the only one to have Police thin on the ground.....its not only Wiltshire that cant afford to recruit Police it seems ...recently when I called to report a gang of kids who were kicking off the keep- left bollards in the village our local bobby never came at all...The following day when I did see him he told me he had 49 square miles to cover.....on his own .  he just cant cope with it .

  18. When it comes to the opening ceremoney..... I suppose in London we will just wheel out the guards band and have her majesty  do a lap of the arena is a horse drawn coach  behind them ....and somebody will hand her a box of matches to light the torch ?   Or do you want to see loads of money spent trying to outdo this lot ?
