Chose South Vendee for the micro climate .....chose the villages I wanted to be near ....all within 10 minutes of the beaches ....just far enough inland to avoid the tourist masses ....Consentrated on the local estate agents to find me what I wanted ....a bungalow old Vendeen type with 2 double bedrooms and with just enough land that I can deal with it without having to spend all day fighting the undergrowth and can then sit in the shade of the tree in the middle of the back lawn....Waited three years... then the right one "came along ".... in the right place... at the right price .... could say " comes to he who waits " .... I dont intend to do anymore than see my days out using the place as much as I can ... after which the kids and grandchildren can have the use of it to continue enjoying staying France as they do now .

A long time ago I posted on here that Southampton were getting an IKEA and would be handy for anyone using Portsmouth or Poole crossings who may want to vsit it .... and ....would post when it looked like opening ... Its almost finished they have recruited 100 managers and supervisors for the store which is on 4 floors with 9.200 articles for sale and the remainder of the over 400 staff are being recruited now The restaurant seats 600....so .... meat balls by the ton there ! Its in West Quay Road .not far from the railway station by the docks ......cant miss it... its big enough ! Due to open in the spring they now have a web site for it ..aimed at job seekers ...opening date should appear on that soon ..

Its to do with with the introduction of the new Local Housing Allowance a new way of calculating the benefit for housing and payment may only be paid to the person who makes the application for the benefit ....unless..They are "vunerable " or " incapable of managing their financial affairs " ........is........" unlikely to pay their rent ".;... or ..." has accrued 8 weeks rent arrears " It appears to me that the council wishes people to take care of their own affairs become free from dependance on the council to take care of things like rent and tax payments for them and to be more responsible for themselves ....Great if it works .........but since April when it was introduced in many cases it has not ..........the "rent money " they claimed has been spent elsewhere ....

I thought France was bad enough when it came to regulations regarding long term tennanats but now the UK have come up with this one ....If you now rent out to a person who is in receipt of housing benefit the new regulation it seems states that the rent money now must be paid to the tennant who then passes it on to the landlord ...The old system, where the council could pay it direct to landlord ceases ..unless its an existing tennant who has had this arrangenent in place for some time ... The landlord can only again get the payment paid direct to him if the tennant has not paid it to him for two months if he makes a request to the Council and they can investigate why the rent was not passed on .......thus a two month rent arrears situation is created and built into the system as I see it ! Guess what ? ...lots of tennants given the wad of cash to pass on have headed for the pub or the bookies instead ! .. Now private landlords have loads of tennants who are in arrears because of the introduction of this system and are taking court actiion to evict....The tennants will then have to be put in Hotel bread and breakfast accomodation direct payment to the Hotel by the council I suspect while this previously housed tennant waits for social housing .............crazy ! Who are the mugs here ?....you pay for a TV licence and then they try to get more cash out of you while you watch the thing Another Sergeant comes to mind ..he wrote a book on brain washing .political indoctrination.and thought control ..he would have loved this show ..how to suck in the masses !

It all went wrong when the Crown Prosecution Service was introduced and decisions to put offenders before the courts were taken away from Police It all went wrong when the Police had their hands tied behind their back when it came to dealing with offenders on the streets and they had to justify everything they said and did for fear of complaints encouraged and supported by lawers getting rich from the legal aid system ....Result we now we have a police service where within it self preservation is number 1.... avoid a complaint at all costs ...keep your head down ...just think of getting through to the pension . whatever you do dont upset anybody ! . Now the streets are unsafe .and .the prisons are full of people who just might have been diverted away from crime if sorted out early enough in their lives if the Police were listened to and let do the job as they used to......Child P today is an example ...Police said "Put in care " they were ignored ,,we all know the result

It appears that we are about to be faced with a mountain of unwanted rubbish as the recycle industry has seen prices fall drastically and they are now stuck with huge amounts of unwanted material ..Even scrap metal is not being taken due to a fall in steel production . Councils are worried they will be collecting the stuff we recycle and have no place to store it as the recyclers refuse to take it ....Army training land I believe is going to be requested to be used in the UK to dump the stuff on .....We have all been "trained " to recycle and encouraged not to burn it .... I can see that being relaxed ... remermber the galvanised garden incinerators you could get from the ironmongers ....whats the answer ? I think nobody saw this one coming !

There are loads in UK prisons we could "Post Back " to the hot sweaty fly infested places they came from ..........then we just shrug our shoulders and say "Must have escaped guv " .......

Just got the timetable for 2008/2009 from Brittanny Ferries ....As far as Poole / Cherbourg is concerned they have dropped 3 crossings a week for the ship next May to September 10 now instead of 13 .....I have not looked at other crossings ....Proof if it were needed that they expect a lot less people to be going to France next year from the South West of the UK ....

I note you are planning to fly to La Rochelle .......if its the South Vendee you are looking to buy in then in the past few months I have seen more for sale signs go up than in the past 4 years.....prices have dropped a lot check out what Notaires have on offer as well as the agents ...Now is the time you could just find what you want at a lower price then at you expected .

One of if not the worst town in the UK for non payment of rent and Council Tax with thousands of court warrants issued each year is...... Glasgow ....over 20,000 issued last year.... I wonder how much this couple owe there ?... dodging paying rent and taxes is a way of life for some people

May I suggest that you look at the " British Thyroide Foundation " site .....lots of guidance there ..My wife is a member.... over 20 years since she had to have hers removed her sister is being treated for Hashimotos as it runs in families .... The Foundation sends out helpful publications after you join ...

I read today a whistle blower in the NHS has reported that fact that anNHS Hospital Trust hires translators at £300 an appointment when immigrants are seen as family members can not be used in case they do not give the patient a true translation £900 was paid out in one clinic as three patients did not show up after translators were booked for them ... they will be hired again when the consultant re books them..... I have been fortunate enough not to have had to use a hospital when I have been staying in France....but I can imagine should need one and I ask if they have got in a translator for me to sit in on the appointment the only translation I would get would be " What part of foxtrot oscar dont you understand "

I have considered renting out my place ..10 mins from the beach ...must be a demand for it ...but the thought of the boys in blue turning up again and asking my "guests " who they are...how long they are staying ... and how much they are paying me to rent it kind of puts me off ... One visit is enough !

I have years of experience or dealing with tennents .....I never rented out to a tennant in the past years of everybody having computer use on the strength of references......too easy to forge by re creating letting agency letter heads... previous landlords etc they do it . I had one tennant introduce me to a woman she said was her mother who she was moving to be near as she was ill .......it was not her mother !Never take what you are told at face value..all sorts of bovine excrement will come out to pursuade you to rent the property to them.....You have to check out tennents closely and talk to as many people as you can find .... Those who know the people and have rented to them and check out and talk about their payment record with previous landlords ...rental agencies ..find out and why they left them.....If you rent out to some person whocame over as very nice and you later found out they led you up the garden path.....its no good wishing you had checked up on them....too late .

I believe he has offered workers a $500 tax credit ..$1000 to working couples .....I wonder how long they will have to wait for it ? If they are expecting it the day after he moves into the White House I think they might be dissapointed..

Whoever it is I only hope its by a good margin as if there is any nonsense like when Bush got in with holes in voting machine cards not punched through with re counts and lawyers .....well....I would not want my car left in the street or want to be there myself In some towns the Natiional Guard could find itself turned out I suspect with this election ......If Obama does not win . then a lot of people are going to be very upset indeed and I think will show just how much. as they have put a lot of their money in the pot for him ..and expect to see him in the White House . Am I the only one with an uneasy feeling about this election ?
