1. I am a bit unsure of dealing with Ryanair bookings where I intend to pay for somebody else and not be flying  myself .

What's the procedure when booking and paying . for somebody else ....I note they ask for the email address of the  person making the reservation when the time comes to print off the boarding cards  . As I will be in France having paid for family to come out  When they access the site from another email address and it flashes up at  the time that they need to print their passes .....Is this going to cause problems because they never made the booking ?  I am sure somebody on here does it often flying their kids back and forward and knows the answer ?

  2.
Yet another parcel down the black hole at ROISSY. Sent from the UK and arrived Paris on 6th May. Doing a Google search reveals huge numbers of complaints about the atrocious service and it seems there is nothing you can do about it.

This site seems to be reserved for complaints which are never answered.

I should imagine they have an investigation branch like Royal Mail . Any suggestion of theft to them and they should move in and test the staff to monitor what goes through their hands..............or does not ....Then they should act . Perhaps somebody should suggest they get involved  as they suspect its a den of thieves ?

  3.
I've used them twice. Good rates, excellent customer service and you can check the progress of your transfer.
Exactly as in your post Nectarine ....................They have me now .....set up transfer on the 11th  I was informed  by email when sent and told it would be in account by Wednesday.0900 ......Checked account today and it went in on the 12th ! ......Their  message below....

"The final rate was 1 GBP Pound Sterling = 1.2264 EUR Euro, and we charged you

    £4.98 for the service. "

  4.
Not driving, but Spain and the ways they are trying to claw back money:

A friend has just purchased a second home in Spain. The sale and all the legal formalities went through without a hitch. Then she was contacted by her Spanish lawyer.

A government body notified them that they did not consider she had paid the 'right' price for the property - she had paid too little. So a tax was to be imposed on her for the difference between the price she paid and what the government body considered to be the 'right' price.

As you can imagine, this came as a big shock. She has appealed but her lawyers don't think she will win.
What a B****y cheek !      Its hardly within the spirit of  EU "Free Movement " is it to pull  a stunt like that . Reading this is enough to make you vote for UKIP !

  5. Does this mean that all this "private " money being given to farmers for running cows mean that the EU can now drastically cut back on the  CAP funding   we tax payers  are giving  to farmers  ?    If not then why not ?  If it is so profitable then they don't need support to run their herds of cows  !

  6. As far as I am concerned all women should learn to drive ... I have seen too many men older than their wives confined to home due to illness with their shiney car in the drive that the wife was not permitted to get her hands on .. All the women in my family drive and  when the time comes for me to be driven about by one of them because I will not be able to they can drive how they like !   Carry on girls ....you are doing a great job...and remember a miss is as good as a mile .as long as nobody dies who cares how you park .

  7. Karcher does seem to be the one most people go for .....There is a selection to go through on this site Wools  ....UK looks to be cheaper than France .

You can  always check your  local Vide Greniers....I saw one for 20 euros  a small one with a carry handle . I had a similar one a Draper and that was very powerful ...

  8.
Very true; I heard a Frenchman the other day saying that most villages and small towns used to have bars and cafes but that now they had closed and there were pharmacies in their place!
That seems to be the case  these days ...............cant say I am surprised .The one thing I have noticed is more and more people  with a bottle of tap water on their tables when eating now .

  9. Just before going to France for a few weeks and knowing a parcel was on the way to me from half way round the world. I asked our post lady if she would deliver it to my neighbor She agreed and told me she would also inform the  guy who sometime s delivers to us . I followed it up with a note taped on and seen through  my glass door  asking for any parcels to be dropped off at the address next door ...  Job done !    So I thought ...

I find on my return a "Something for you "  card from Royal mail requesting I report to the sorting office to collect my parcel ..I then find its winging  its way halfway back round the world where it came from as it was not collected within the allotted number of days shown on the card ..

I was silly enough to ask why as I had given permission in writing and asked for it to be delivered next door why they did not do it ... I was told my   "neighbor may not have been in "  ... I asked them why not give a card to her then and she would pop round  and collect it ... "Not allowed sir ..  We  have to put the card into the address shown on the parcel even though we know there is not going to be anybody there for weeks  "   Then when it is not collected in 18 days ....Royal Mail ships it back to sender ...  So anyone likely to be in the same  position... be aware with Royal Mail ....  rules is rules !

  10. Am I right in thinking reading the posts on this thread that France does not have any process like a CRB check on persons working with children and the elderly?... I have just had to submit my 4th set of forms for a check over the years I have been a volunteer connected with the NHS and with community service . Now its a Photo ID and home service bills production check they have tightened up so much on this . Are the French living in a different world from us ?.
  11.
That's right, with the added advantage that you control everything on the TV screen from within the app installed on your chosen device(s).

Of course, this is only as good as your internet connection allows...

Thank you Clair  ..................now I have to have one ....I looked it up to see how it works .....Looks good to me

  12. Where I live in Dorset our community has a Facebook page where lots of people can contact each other about whats going on.. seek services  have a moan if things wind them up etc ...This morning this little chap left the park and his elderly lady owner and turned up muddy and tired in a street a long way away.... Message was put on the community facebook page  "Anybody know who owns this little chap "   Reply's came to the effect distressed owner and others were searching the park for him and  a phone number given...Lead put on him and walked to the park and handed back to owner..... All in less than one hour !

A community Facebook page ...A good idea

  13. I phoned them today as my card will expire while I am in France .... I was asked if I had an on line bank code .. I said  "  No  I have not " was then asked for account number so they could look it up..and usual security questions .... I asked if there was any way they could have the new card sent to my French address so I wouid have it when the old one expired .... Guess what !     No chance   !  I was told to use my cheque book  If  I want to use the new card I shall have to have  somebody go in my house  go through my mail in the UK and post it out ...... Have told my wife to make sure she has plenty of cash !!!

  14. Another : wrote ........When I called them again this time they told me that I had to go into my

phone (iPhone) and manually set it for roaming but when I do that it

doesn't work in France any more !

Yes ....I had to do the same to use it in the UK   They talked me through where to go on my old Nokia  settings I use for France and turn the roaming on and set to Lycamobile . I have had no problems switching between France and the UK since .

  15.
I had to google to find that they have Morrisons, Sainsburys and Tescos.

Used to know the area well because y late husband came from a little village nearby. Maybe they are just as behind the times as they used to be. On my first visit there was a hiring fair for farm labourers to work for the summer. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Does the Sainsbury's still have sawdust on the floor and do they still slap half a pound if butter together with two butter pats ?

  16. Parking is a problem made worse now by patrolling  roof top camera cars.. Our biggest nearest UK shopping is Bournemouth  2.2 million net profit from parking fines in 12 months .  We try our best to avoid the place and shop in out of town purpose build places with free parking . We do visit our  local shops a few miles away in Ringwood .There is no free parking  and 8 charity shops  ... What I like about shopping in France in the towns we go it is its hassle free  much more relaxing and no parking machine clock to have to keep in mind and threats of tickets !

  17.
My thought on learning of his death was that London commuters and Londoners would be breathing a sigh of relief.

Was it right to 'screw' a bonus out of TfL for RMT members to do what they were paid for during the Olympics.

The demand for treble time and a day in lieu for members working on Boxing Day

    plus plus

and on a personal basis earning £140k and living in social housing.
He only died today....  He has not had much time to rest in peace  !
