1.
JH plays a mean honky tonk piano - didn't he used to be in a band called Squeeze?
Yes he was and I agree, a very mean honky tonk piano, his brother Chris is also very talented. I have to say I am glad the monkey with the lipstick and big glasses has gone, he was scary[:)]

    short but very nice, http://www.worldblues.com/bbking/prairie/sounds/thrill.wav

  2. Hi Charlotte, I too was interested in the John McLoughlin reference thinking that I had missed some thing but I found out (I think) that it is in the spelling, there is a John McLoughlin who is an Irish blues guitarist but John Mclaughlin is who we are both thinking of, it would be very interesting  to hear him play the blues though![:D] Maybe someone else knows some more? I envy your ability to play 12 bar blues, I wish that I had taken up the playing of an instrument when  was young, still my 'air' guitar is something to be seen...[Www]

  3. That be an olde Kentish word used during the great Plague when locals were found staggering around the village green, it is still in use today usually after the pubs close......[:D] TP did you take the up to date pictures on the Pembury website that are diplayed alongside the 'olde' Pembury shots? It's a great idea I have a few old prints of our local village here in France and it has inspired me to do the same thing.[:D]

Not hi-jacking your thread 'Not Chris' but just to add that my better half agrees completely with you, at the mere mention of 'The Forum' her eyes glaze over and she suddenly finds ironing very interesting....[:D]

  4.
How many times better are the versions of Little Red Rooster by Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf than the Rolling Stones? Discuss.

(If you have a copy of Howlin' Wolf, the London Sessions, you can hear Wolf giving a blues lesson to Messrs Clapton and Richards using LRR - sublime)
Dick, the version I have of Little Red Rooster (the London Sessions) fades out at the end, is that how it is on the album? I don't have a Willie Dixon + Howlin' Wolf version to compare with (yet) but I do have a version by Big Mama Thornton that is really good, with some really funny animal sounds thrown in.

    Was that a question Dave.......................................[:D][:D]

Carly Simon..............."I can see clearly now"
No not really[:)] usually the question used to be "where did I sleep last night" [;-)] Off to find the tracks mentioned by Dick, beware the twinkling fairy if you lead this 'Blues' thread astray with talk of Carly Simon.......[:D][:D]
  6.
Oh Dave, why not say what you mean? After all, we mustn't have opinions, must we?

I actually quite like the Paul Weller version, it's on my iPod, I just wanted to get Marsha's version as well...  sorry.
There's me thinking that I had said what I meant, as to Paul Weller and Marsha Hunt you may do well to read your own postings in which you had said that you were looking for the version by Marsha Hunt, I found it for you and offered it to you but you chose not to reply. say what you mean Dick, you are looking for it but only from people in your club? I just know that you will either ignore this posting or say something sarcastic and intended to hurt, so go ahead either way is OK I will survive.

PS my apologies for any spelling or grammar mistakes that may cause offence, this is not intended.

  7. You are welcome Chris, while searching around why not have a listen to 'The Jeff Healey Band' and maybe 'Gary Moore' in blues mode. Anyway what's wrong with Paul Weller? His version of  'Walks on Gilded Splinters' knocks Marsha Hunt's version into a cocked hat, but then that is just in my opinion. You asked about Blues to get you into the 'zone' and by and large most have given you suggestions, others it seems would rather ram their opinion down your throat, or should it be ears.

  8.

You didn't answer my question though! Have you been broken in yet?
Well!!! (splutter splutter) [:$], I could not possibly say![:)]

You've re-awakened my ears now and I've been looking at getting more Robert Cray, dust the old Van Morrison and...

Re Chris Rea, through his more commercial success (Road to hell, On the beach), he is not usually associated with blues, but once you've heard Dancing down the stony road, you know where his roots really are.

  9.
I love Blues, it's the only music for me when I'm in the 'zone'. My collection is sad and my knowledge poor. What tracks can I download that'll blow my socks off?
Hi Chris, you could try Charlie Musselwhite, especially if you like Blues Harp, and also from the UK, Paul Lamb also a very good harp player.[8-|]

  11. It ends up at a Russian download site that you have to register and pay with a credit card, maybe not a good idea! I am hunting for it though as I enjoy a challenge[:D]
