1. Nomoss

In past days when I owned a boat, as a French resident along with French citizens I paid the Droit de Passeport, which was for navigating French waters.

At the time, a British resident with a boat moored in France, was not subject to this payment.

My point was that as some boats are used as holiday homes they may well fall into the same category as houses.

  2. It’s amazing how difficult and awkward some companies want to be. I have experienced that several times in France, mainly because of the language.

Your guys seem to be very unreasonable, in fact a shower of s@?t.

My previous bank apart from being a dead loss also supplied my top up insurance. When I changed banks, the new bank cancelled everything for me with the previous including the top up health, all at very short notice.

Tell your company that you will give them a mention in Que Chosir. Also have a word with your local association de consommateurs.

    Good luck.

That must have been one helluva crash, are you well on the way for a full recovery? I wish you well.

What’s wrong with complaining about bad insurers?

We should not have to complain, all I and most others want is reasonable value for money. I.e. if you have a valid claim the insurers should pay up without question, not argue, raise our blood pressure and make us seek legal help.

As for spreading the good news, what good news, when’s the last time you praised your local insurance agent for giving you good value for money? No you won’t do that, he will raise your premiums.

  5. Talking to friends it would seem that successful claims from insurance companies are few and far beyond.

I rented a car recently and took out the expensive collision damage waiver in the belief that in the event of an accident all would covered financially-WRONG. Reading the small print, I found that I was liable for the first 1600 euros in the event of any claim.

A pal down the road was taken to hospital in the USA with severe stomach pains, his travel insurance (FR) would not pay because this happened in the first week on the cover. The small print states that cover is only after a delay of 8 days unless there is an accident. This means that you must take out cover 8 days before you leave, ridiculous!

Looking at the many conditions in his pretty expensive policy which apparently was not given to him at the time of signing, it makes me wonder what they would pay for.

He is taking further action as the definition of an accident can mean an unforeseen event which his condition was. I wish him luck but will not hold my breath.

Other claims rejected (UK & FR policies) all I thought were genuine and honest included more with travel, building insurance and gold credit card cover.

My own claim for a dental treatment was clearly covered even in the small print but I had to battle with the company eventually with the threat of legal action before they paid out.

Only one of us had a good story to tell with auto insurance. Her claim was against a third party at fault so her company did not actually pay anything.

I would love to name and shame but no doubt this would be deleted.

'Question is, will it avoid the situation where I'm stuck behind one of those funny cars that drive on the other side of the road and the occupants are struggling to figure out what the machine is asking them to do?'

Presumably, you are talking about the deux chevaux ou voiturette?
  7. On a ferry booking, Brittany Ferries has asked ‘to comply with French legislation, we need to record your vehicle registration number before the day of departure’.

Out of our party we are not sure what car we will use (all the same size).

Anyone know this legislation and what this is about?

Woolybanana. Back from there? What is it like? svp

Sorry for the late reply, I have only just returned.

If you were referring to the route to CDG, the traffic was horrendous (Sunday evening) and on the drive home the traffic was moving well (Tuesday 11am) but the drivers around Paris are absolutely crazy in my opinion.
  9.
Congratulations on adopting a Rottweiler. I cannot see that you would have any problem with her on holiday in France. She is vaccinated, micro chipped, insured and has a passport. Those of us who live here and own a Rottie need a permit. To get one, in addition to vaccinations, micro chip, insurance and passport, we have to have a vet’s behavioural assessment of the dog and we owners have to attend a course on responsible dog ownership (the one I went on was a hoot until I had to pay the €100 fee!). The requirement that she is kept muzzled and on a lead in public places is worth sticking to just for peace of mind. My pal Hubert and I always exercise our dogs together. He has a Springer spaniel. I carry a muzzle, but my little girl runs off leash in the woods and has a whale of a time. We’re reasonably fireproof as Hubert is a Captain in the Gendarmerie Nationale. And BTW, bring dog food with you as it is so expensive here. We import ours from the UK. If you want an absolutely definitive answer to your question, give the French Consulate in London a call, but I’m pretty sure I’m right. Enjoy your holiday.
What a blatant disregard for the law.

One would hope that a Captain in the Gendarmerie would show a good example.

I hope your Rottweiler never attacks a child, I have seen first hand the damage they can do.

I drove up from the Loire Valley, so a similar route once on the outskirts of Paris, but I'd advise taking the autoroute, it's simpler and the airport is well sign posted. Just follow signs for Lille, and then airport signs will follow. This is the anti clockwise direction. Are you flying with your dog?
Mr Coeur de Lion,

I have a map at last. Do you take the A10 then route N104 Evry....A104...signs to CDG?

A gps routes directly via Notre Dame, not a good route I would have thought but the shortest perhaps.

Had a look at ATL, Delta arrives at concourse E, same as AF.

So you have to board the transit to the main terminal after security screening.

If you really want to buy liquid duty free during the flight or at LHR, you may be able to place these in your checked bags at ATL after immigration and before you board the train.

I'll wait until I fly out to by any liquids and it sounds like quite a schlep so I'll try to keep my hand baggage fairly light too. Coming back I'm transferring there (flying in from Hilton Head/Savannah) but I'm catching a shuttle bus to the hotel when I arrive......I have a feeling this is going to be exhausting whichever way I do it....[:'(]

Exhausting perhaps but as soon as you leave Atlanta airport it will all have been worthwhile.

Hilton Head, looks like your heading for the coast.

    Have a great time.

  12.
Thanks audio. I have no criminal history, so that's good. I might add one more piece of info and that being the right to health care here. I've just had my 5th anniversary in France and from what I understand, if I am out of France more than two years, I'll lose that right and have to start again.
Sorry I do not know the rules on that, if you do find out, I would be interested to learn.

Health care in the US is very, very expensive but I'm sure you are aware of that.

  13. Sounds like your well prepared.

No need for translation, they speak good French there.

The address you have is probably where to send the application, if you dial up visas on their website, you will find that they give the consulate address for the interview.

I cannot think of anything else, they basically want you to prove you have good reason for returning to France and be financially covered during your stay.

Don’t take offence but if you have any criminal record your chances are slim.
