  1. This bit is  worth  copying here.. but  still my  issue is the work situation for no EU spouse..... Currently  I think  a right to be able to work is probably based on  the issue of a work visa... johndalton36 Re: How Can my Thai wife Move to France I have some experience of this as my wife is Ukrainian. We spent the last two years queuing up for Shengen visa's to visit our holiday home in France and other EU holidays. Not once did any of the embassies think to mention we did not need a Schengen Visa. Then by chance we heard about EU legislation that came into force in 2004 allowing free movement within the EU (no exeptions) for sposes of EU nationals and their family. I suggest if anyone is having problems with travel you download a copy of the legislation here - http://www.europa.eu/scadplus/leg/en/lvb/l33152.htm, copies are also available in French, German etc etc. We printed a copy in each language and had them ring bound into a folder at the local stationers. The first time we arrived in Limoges airport with an expired Schengen Visa we were pulled to one side, out came the folder, French page presented to the Douane who stood scratching their heads and we were duly waived on our way.We have since been all over the EU and never more of a hold up than this. Incidentally another point you should be aware of is that you/your spouse do not have to queue in the non Eu passport holders channel at immigration in any EU country any more - you can go straight to the EU channel - where immigration all seem to know about European Parliament and Council Directive 2004/38/EC of 29 April 2004, where as immigration in the NON EU channel seem to have never heard of it.
  2. Thanks, that was  amazing instant response.. I will follow up a few links there.. re the spousal rights  mentioned.. it does not apply to UK  (as below) Embassies and immigration workers have various responses  (if any) to the issue.. I think I must have seen earlier here the  plan to go, get a carte de sejour and put my wife on it..  but then the  Ambassade (in Wellington, NZ ) says get a long stay visa..  so hopefully they are wrong. This would not allow her to work anyway. I will be  working as a buyer's advocate for  property and also  helping with  renovation plans etc. pour les etrangeres.. For UK i think she has to pay 515 pounds and get a  spouse visa.. stay 3 years for UK citizenship.. so perhaps the  regs in France are not  as easy as the  carte sejour  idea.
  3. Oui, elle joue rugby, mais elle prefer  le football et aussie elle est une champion national de boxe francaise. (pas a la meme temps!)
  4. Bonjour mes amis. I searched but info. may be outdated here. What is the position for a UK citizen with UK passport, a wife with an NZ passport... vis-a-vis being legally able to work?  We are coming  to France  as from December..  environ Bordeaux.....  I believe I personally  have no problem.. but  the  situation  for my wife is the real question.
  5. Wait a minute.. is this a tanker-load  being offered?  In that case, I would advise caution. But I am sure this forum would allow a link to some of your  online music and or videos, n'est pas? What sort of music do you play? Me, myself,  am a great fan of Alain Stivel... L"Harpe Celtique.
  6. Liberte, egalite, fraternite.. OK? Wot else is there? As long as you do these enly wence, the petrol is not a prerequisite to your engagemnet.. viz.. RSL might take you on his donkey..  & you were going there anyway, and as long as you do not play anything too loud to disturb  a close friend of a tax inspector and/or make a CD for sale later, or  by  Cliff or Max Bygraves.... you should be OK. ;o)
  7. Oor Wullie and Leo,  Presently en Nouvelle Zealand .. installing a solar water heater and  child shade area (UVB extra high down under) En route in about 2 months. Regards, Pa Broon.
  8. Sorry, Tresco, not meaning to confuse. Thanks for reading...what I am  trying to  say.. Noting  in a quick survey of this section of the forum, owners' concerns over  rights and protections accorded by French law to tenants.. (and being about to become a tenant myself, unless I camp, most uncomfortably, in my  about to be acquired ruin) Primarily,  I was looking at a means to assuage any nervous of landlords and prospective landlords, by  establishing a  possible mutually beneficial "arrangement" that should.. for example, an occupant have a nervous breakdown and become "the occupier from HELL".... (not me , of course!) .... the occupancy might be  judged to be an "employee/employer" relationship.. eg concierge etc.. rather than a tenancy. In my case ..I think only  if I was able to  render services  over the value of  the occupancy.. then it might work. Not a loophole in the law... maybe just another loi that might apply and would take precidence! Where are  the avocats when you need one? ;o)
  9.  I have  yet to read the entire Forum! But I note concerns re tenants. I am looking for a 12 month position. Note the phraseology. I understand owners' concerns re  tenancy.. as I have been owner of several rental properties in Ecosse, NZ etc. and am still  letting.  I will be buying again in France, a ruin to restore.. encore. I was trying to  see the owner in the role of employer which might over-ride any legal rights of a "tenant" e.g. I propose  that  I might be engaged for various services .. from measure-up, plans and  design consultancy to videoing or photographing to  care-taking..I agree to allow deductions from  my (very reasonable) fees (which are paid  in arrears, as is usual with such) for owners costs during my occupancy to include rates, insurance, etc.,  ..but  no , I think  (in the event of a breakdown..) le juge would  say it is still a tenancy as a consideration is being paid in kind. Tant pis!  As usual, the best security will  possibly be using an agent or third party, viewing good references, obtaining  a large bond and acting, as soon as the law allows, should the rent not be paid when due.
  10. I am looking for a long term rental cental, Perigord or southwards.  Trained as an architect with 25 years experience in rehab., I can do a measure up and advise on  retro-fitting for sustainability if needed. I will be back in France by May, looking to buy and restore a  ruin (again!)
  11. I had a look at French Prop News but could not see any online ads. I  am looking to place a few ads online. Where would you look? I am moving back to France.. Perigord or South and want to rent and/or house-mind  for  up to a year.. 2 x 6 months..until I buy and  renovate.. Although I  speak French, I think targeting  UK  owners is best as I  trained as an architect in UK, with many years experience in residential refurbishment and property. Any help much appreciated.
