  1. So very sad to hear this terrible news. We never met but I always followed her posts, she will be greatly missed.
  2. Our thoughts and prayers are, once again, totally with you!
  3. Have read all of Tom Sharpe's books and always laughed out loud. The Throwback is my favourite, really vulgar( lovely word) but very funny. Now reading lots of freebies on my Kindle, some good, some dire but, hey, they are free!
  4. Skallagrigg - everyone should read it, a wonderful book and one that I will only lend but never give away!
  5. Very pleased to hear the good news for you both, hope all continues well
  6. I have only owned my Kindle since the beginning of May when I received one for my 60th birthday. I have always loved my books and still enjoy the page-turning experience, but the Kindle is great, especially if you are on holiday, still wanting to read, but not having to take a great pile of books. I have the 3G variety, which means you can download books straight to the kindle without the need for internet access and I have recently downloaded 7 free books from Amazon, haven't read all of them yet so don't know what quality of books I have received, but still can't be a bad deal. No different from going to the library and borrowing books that you, maybe, don't know if you will like or not. The cost can vary but is always cheaper than buying a paperback book. I think it is a wonderful innovation and I will enjoy it for now, though I will still buy paper books when the price is right!
  7. Beautiful work John, can you give me a quote for a set of coasters. My son will be moving into a new house next month and I would like to give him a housewarming present, the coasters would be perfect.

    Cat poo

Our Staffie has always eaten poo, her own preferably, fresh, but also cat, rabbit and horse. A muzzle at night is preventing some of this, in daylight hours it is not so much of a problem. She is nealry 15 and has always done this, in England intermittently but in France as often as she gets the chance, especially if we have visitors in the evening! I have tried all the remedies, putting pineapple in her food and also other repellents but to no avail, it is just a habit, but not a very nice one!! I also keep a toothbrush and dog toothpaste to hand for the more embarassing occasions! Apparently, according to my vet nurse daughter, cat poo is particularly tasty! Sorry I can't be of more help. Be thankful you are not a dog !!

    Staffies

Eve, please do not worry, as I said before, as long as your vet puts Staffordshire Bull Terrier on the pet passport you should have no worries. As Staffie owners we are all aware of what they "could" do, just as any other dog could. My 14 year old would lick you to death and would let any burglar in ( and has done so!) However, I would never leave her unsupervised with small kids, but that would apply whatever breed of dog I had. I hope you get to France and enjoy your experience here with all your animals, Good Luck!

    Staffies

I think I have already replied to you on another site, but will do so again. Christine Animal on this site was really helpful to me when I wanted to bring our non-pedigree Staffie over 3 years ago. I will again point you in the direction of the directive from the "Ministere de L'Interieur http//clubcaninrochois.free.fr/Reglementat-ion/staffordshire.html I can assure you that Staffies are welcome in France. Just make sure that your vet puts Staffordshire Bull terrier on his passport.
  11. Thanks for your advice Andy
  12. Roots and stem seem to be healthy. My husband has sprayed with Bordeaux powder and things seem to be on hold. This particular bed has had problems for a couple of years, carrots had worms , swede were awful last year and leeks just didn't grow much. I think we have to have a major clean-up of this bed and avoid brassicas for a couple of years.
  13. No nothing wrong with the roots, no maggots or worms. Anyone got any ideas?
  14. Thanks Andy I'll go and check the roots
