  1. This has come up on our survey for our new house. Vrillettes: presence de larves dans les charpentes de la maison et des dependances I have translated it to be larvae of Death Watch Beetles in the house and outbuildings. Does this sound as ominous as I think it does? Any ideas on how bad this might be would be much appreciated. I've heard of termite problems, woodworm & capricorns but am unaware how easy or expensive this might be to treat.  We only have 6 days left until our 7 day cooling off period ends!
  2. Hi zrx Have just found your post while I was looking for info on re-registering my ZZR1100. Have you got your bike re-registered now and if so how difficult was it, horse power in particular. Steve
  3. We spent ages trawling around looking for a second hand mower, but they were extremely expensive and generally a pile of ****. Wouldn't waste your time going down that route. As your garden is not huge, would suggest going to Leroy Merlin, Bricomarche or Mr Bricolage. We bought ours in Mr Bricolage for 990€ with Briggs & Stratton engine. Happy hunting!
  4. Thanks for your reply Anton. I will let you know how I get on but I have just bought an English pool table to put in our spare room (garage !) so it might take a bit longer to get round to the snooker now.
  5. Hi Carol, If you are still wanting to go we got plenty of replies from the Anglo-Info Forum. Either look at www.angloinfo.com, go into the Normandy section and you will see my post and the replies under Accommodation wanted. I also have a lady who contacted me and she has a couple of gites nearby that she would be prepared to rent. Let me know if you want the details. I could probably find you a few more.
  6. Not sure if this is a stupid question or not but someone has told me that you don't need to have heat resistant glass in our 7kw woodburner, as it is 634 euros per sq metre at our local Bricomarche I thought it was worth asking. Can anyone help with this question or know of anywhere else to get this glass cheaper ?
  7. SORRY SORRY SORRY if I sounded a bit rude with my reply, I certainly didn't mean to upset anyone. Even if I didn't receive exactly what I asked for the replies were very interesting anyway.  I also apologise to whoever got sent my first attempt at this reply as I obviously pushed the wrong button somewhere. All sorted in the end for our group of 8 motorbikes for the Moto GP.
  8. replies seem to be drifting off in another direction from the question. I will try Anglo Info instead.
  9. We live 10 minutes from Saintes and always have someone come and stay at our house when we go away as our dogs are to soft to get put in a kennel. The lady charges 25 euros per day. Please let me know if this would be of any help to you.
  10. Yes please to free advertising for 12 months
  11. Can anyone help me in finding somewhere to play snooker in or around Saintes (Dept 17). I can't ever remember seeing a snooker table anywhere in France even though we often play pool which is obviously very popular.
  12. Sorry, the Moto GP, not the 24 race. I always associate Le Mans with 24 hr but of course the bike Grand Prix is not 24 hr! Anyway, does anyone have any accommodation for 19th, 20th & 21st May for the Moto GP at Le Mans?
  13. I am trying to find accommodation in or around Le Mans on 19th, 20th & 21st May (over the 24 hour race weekend) for 5 people. Can anyone help or know anyone who can?
  14. Screwfix do not deliver to France at the moment and won't be in the forseeable future so if you need anything just drop me an email. Going back to England on 24th February so any order will need to be received by 22nd February at latest.
  15. If it is normal crepi, plain old emulsion is fine. We used white crepi to cover a stone wall and I simply painted it cream to match the decor. It looks fab!
  16. I am going back to Guildford, Surrey in February to pick up a large Screwfix order. If you would like me to bring you anything back from them then look at their website on www.screwfix.com and e-mail me with your order. I wll not make any charge for bringing your order back for you but you will need to pick your order up from me in St Jean D'Angely.

  19. Can anyone help me in finding a motocross track or somewhere that off road bikes go for a ride without having to be part of a club etc. In England I could turn up at our local track and pay about £15 to use it for the day along with as many others that would turn up.
  20. We are taking our empty van back to Devon and then Surrey on Wednesday 23rd Nov on the 10.45 ferry from St Malo. If anyone has anything needing to be moved please let us know. We will then be returning from Portsmouth on the 20.30 ferry back to St Malo on Thursday 1st December. As we are going back to stock up for a busy Christmas we will also have some space on the return trip if anyone needs anything brought this way.
  21. No worries, Ian. Professionals we are not, so will bear your comments in mind! Perhaps someone else may know the answer to this?
  22. Good advice fitting the pipes the other way round, however it is a bit worrying thinking of all the resin staying on the inside of the pipe and maybe clogging it up. The problem we have with insulation is that the pipe runs straight through the middle of our bedroom and out through the roof so we cannot put anything around it. I think perhaps the wood we are using is not that great either.
  23. Thanks for your prompt reply Graham. Not too sure what you mean about 'installing with sockets uppermost'? Could you maybe clarify? We wanted 45° angles initially however Bricomarche did not stock them. Unfortunately we bought all of the other flue from them in black and no other store seems to stock the same colour, hence buying the 90° angles. I thought that this was probably the problem though.
  24. Please help. We have put a woodburner in our small converted barn that goes through the lounge ceiling and up through the bedroom and out through the roof. To miss the central beam upstairs we have had to put two 90° bends in with a 60 cm straight piece in between. As we were trying to find 72° bends to use instead of the 90° ones I have not sealed the sections so as I can take it apart again. Not sure if I was being a bit dim in thinking that as smoke rises then I shouldn't have a problem ?. Anyway the problem is that we have dirty coloured water (condensation ?) leaking out from the top joint of the flue where it runs down the 90° bend and drips off into a bucket (as you can imagine my wife is not to keen on this smelly bedroom accessory). The joint is about 80cm down from the roof.  What I need to know is if I seal the joints so I don't have a leak is it going to be a problem later on with this black slightly sticky water running down the inside of the flue.
  25. Definitely your local market is the best bet. Normally you find the 'foam man' on the big market days (grand foire). Foam galore!!
