  1. For once after a big storm, the electricity was only out here for an hour.  I didn't notice much activity until 2.00am and then only for about half an hour but I am in the Gironde so a bit further south.  I'm glad everyone is OK. The sun is shining here, too, encouraging me into the garden to start a bit of spring cleaning but I think I'll curl up in front of the fire with John Grisham [Www]

I have the same worry about the tiles on my roof, I know a few ones  are a bit dodgy......

My question is what to do if it happens ( tiles being taken off by the wind), should I call the " pompiers"?

    Not looking forward to tonight.[:'(]

I guess it depends how many tiles fly off and whether you feel threatened. Just to be on the safe side I'm collecting a few buckets and a bache along with some candles, matches, torch and most important, my charged up cell phone.  In the 1999 tempete I had no damage at all and felt quite smug but not for long.  Two weeks later the house burned to the ground[:-))]

    Courage everyone!

  4. Sweets, ust to add my ten cents worth, but not to make you feel awful (promise!!) my daughter sent a box of clobber for my little holiday next week via TNT.  She sent it on Tuesday and it arrived today.  The delivery man had GPS in his van plus my phone number in case he couldn't find me and as you know, I live in the middle of nowhere.  Sooo, perhaps you should ask M&S to send your package via TNT?  If nothing else they seem to be efficient.

Yes, Frenchie, but you also get to bring in the logs, get in the pommes de pin, buy the firelighters, buy the liquide concentré for starting fires, clean the glass of the poêle.  Sure, no probs, Frenchie! N'est ce pas, Jen?

Absolument..! And when the fire is laid, all you have to do is rub two boy scouts together to get a flame (well, that's what Brown Owl told me, anyway)

  6. Wow!  Aren't you the lucky one!  The Easyjet site has no telephone number - well, none that lil' ol' myopic me could find -  and the 'contact us' page sent me round in circles so perhaps Ryanair should be aplauded.  I flew Easyjet last weekend and at least I understood what the pilot and stewards/stewardesses were saying.......... and they had a sense of humour, rather essential given the horrendous travelling conditions.
  7. I have a Briard  and a Tibetan spaniel and they go everywhere together - BUT NOT IN MY BACKPACK!  I can't even take them with me when I walk as they are so indiscipliné they present a huge hazard on the roads.  As for their weight, well, the Briard (complete with coat and looking like a rasta) weighs the same as a small horse.  However, when she is shaved she looks like a whippet and probably weighs as much. One of these days I'll post a piccy of the two of them.

Just as an 'aside', are we going to do a St. Jacques 'blog'?

Oik, you, Woolybanana, don't you know the correct placement of apostrophes?  Or should I say, vous me moquez or some such?  Just watch it, OK (and that's deffo a threat and NOT a promise!)

Jen, programme the phone?  Why do you imagine for one minute that I could do something as technically complicated as that?[:$]

I bet you're just glad I didn't go on that 29 km walk and you can now steal a march (marcher) on me, huh, huh???[+o(]

    [/quote]

I would certainly have been in admiration if you had done the 29k walk!  I'm sure we're both capable of it but I hope to reach 30k twice a week by next spring.  2x10k/day is no problem but we have to avoid burnout[Www]  The biggest problem is finding interesting (dog free) loops without getting run over by an articulated truck.  My next stage is to stuff my back pack withy 5k of books to get used to the weight.

Don't worry about the memory thing - if your brain is anything like mine, it hibernates during the winter - I'm serious!
