  1. I would like to buy a bigger PC Monitor in UK to bring back to France.  If I buy one with a Freeview TV Tuner integrated will I be able to use it as a TV receiver here, or do I need extra gadgets, boxes or satellite dishes - I haven't any tv reception set up at the moment.  Any advice available please?
  2. Can anyone enlighten me as to how the forfait journalier is calculated please?  I have received two bills for two separate stays in hospital.  The first visit was for two days and I was discharged on the third.  They billed me 16 euros x 2 for  those two days then added another 16euros for the day I was discharged (before lunchtime).  The second visit was longer but the same thing applied - I was billed for the day of discharge on top of the "total day count" also on that stay, although I had to wait for the doctor's round before discharge.  Am I missing something?  I don't have a mutuelle and am about to send off a cheque.
  3. If living together as a couple but not married, can we submit a single tax form or, as I had presumed, do we have to submit separate forms please?
  4. Is that in officially married or are Pacs couples or just plain concubines included too?
  5. Thank you Clair, but I am still uncertain whether both partners, "conjoints" or "concubines" have to be over sixty to qualify or if it only necessary for the main income provider.  I understand the income qualifications.
  6. Does anyone know of a print by post service which is relatively economic to use in France?  Possibly giclee prints, maybe even onto canvas frames and certainly something more permanent or haphazard than the photo printing services in supermarkets etc.  There are lots to be found in UK but postage is a big problem.
  7. Thank you Maricopa and Benjamin.  At least claiming it back in the English language is easier than in French.
  8. If a couple share their jointly owned property, one is over sixty and one is not, would there be an exemption of taxe d'habitation if their income is below the  RFR "plafond",  or do both have to be over sixty?
  9. My CS demand does not take into account that tax on the savings interest was taken out at source in UK.  Is this a mistake on the local tax office or mine ...anybody?  Also,  I have noticed that the interest on my assurance vie is not exempt from social charges so is not, in effect, tax free as promised (given certain conditions).  Not much incentive in saving towards old age generally given the low interest rates here. [blink]
  10. We requested a devis from a Qualisol French artisan for installing central heating.  He called around today with an impressively presented devis for an aerothermic system (his idea initially) but not a comparison for the poele system (our initial request).  The cost is far too expensive for us to accept his devis.  Are we likely to be charged for his work in the devis he has presented?  Any devis we have received to date for different work has been casual in comparison and without charges.
  11. Thank you for that,  Sunday Driver, however I am still confused as the figures don't add up.  After deducting the 10% abatement from total income the RFR still totals a lot more than last years income minus 20%.  The income in question was fairly modest to start with - are those on lower incomes subsidising the tax breaks for those on higher incomes here in the French tax system, as in the UK from this years budget?
