  1. I am thinking holiday in Greece later in the year....

Searching on-line for cheap flights, the only ones coming up are combinations of ryanair/easyjet etc.. flying via the UK, or Air France flying via Paris at ridiculous prices

Now, to me it seems a bit daft to fly back to the UK, then fly back through French airspace to get to Greece, but there again I don't fancy Air France prices either.

Does anyone have any experience in this type of route, or can anyone recommend any low-cost carriers operating European routes.

    Thanks

  2. Hi fellow TC folks ! - Yes mine is still disappearing up it's own backs**e 3 or 4 times a day. Same old, same old, turn off box, leave for a while, then turn back on. A terrible pain when you are doing something on the internet and "splat" it's gone or you end up talking to yourself on the phone and wonder why your nearest a dearest are not joining in the conversation [8-)]

I know this is a terrible admission, but I'm getting used to it now, still I suppose I am not getting high blood pressure like I was a few weeks ago (or is it months now - No it feels like years !!!!! )

10 euro refund Mr Caballero - I think you should go away and reconsider your miserable offer and come back to the table with a much better one [:@]

  3. Reset iPod classic (if it isn’t responding) Slide the Hold switch to HOLD and back again. Press the Menu and Center buttons at the same time for about 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Have you tried this - the reason I ask - mine took a tumble and I could do nothing with it - the above remedied the situation

    Good luck......

  4. You will find "Sans Alcohol" beers in most supermarkets. There are also lots of strange coloured cocktail drinks called "Mr Cocktail". Mind you, with the cocktail ones I dread to think what kind of strange additives are used for the colouring [blink]. I don't use much alcohol and if I am out I find Perrier water best. With a slice of lemon, lovely and looks like a gin and tonic [:-))]. Anyway, who cares if it's not alcohol, I thought that was only for 16 year olds !!
  5. I just love this bit from Clair's very informative links...

    Special offers: be careful!!!

Apart from during sales periods and stock clearances, the products shown on any advertising matter must be available for the whole period the offer is valid.

If the product runs out, the trader must do everything possible to procure the product for you at the stated price.

Can someone show this to stores like Auchan and Carrefour. They advertise in their weekly rags, all kinds of offers, but try finding some of them, especially home wares and gardening stuff. Any time I have asked the stock reply is "Not available in this store". If this is the case why is their stores location printed on the back of the rag that gets stuffed into my letterbox every week ??

Sorry I'm getting away from the original post. Yes there is lots of wrong pricing. What I try to do is get the OH to pack, while I keep an eye on the till display. If I see something wrong I give it back and query the price, before the end of the sale... if not it's join the queue at customer services [:'(]

I know what you're thinking now "So she's the one that holds up the queue" [Www][Www] Well at least I have my purse at the ready as soon as I am informed of the total amount [blink]

  6. I had the same thing from Marks and Spencer Money last year. I wrote back to them and said that I was no where near Paris to find the consulate, and to get anything certified here I would have to go to a notaire and for this I would incur fees. If they were willing to pay that fee, then of course I would forward certified documents.

In reply from them, I was told that they are following HMRC directives. By this directive, they must sent you 2 letters (one month apart) asking for this information. If, after 2 letters, they get no response from you, that's it - no further action. All they are doing is following government guidelines.

Send them a letter asking if they will pay any fees incurred, to get them the information they require and see what you get back [:)]

  7. I've got it now - Gross for everything, which actually makes sense to me. It was the tax guy in Nontron, who changed one of the figures to net, when I took my tax forms in to be checked over..... I was really puzzled at the time, but as the tax implication was going down not up, I didn't argue too much [blink].

As for the uk/euro rate, If possible I would rather use an average annual exchange rate as I get one pension paid at the end of each month, but O/H has payments from three different sources on three different days of the month.... Work that out and it would be trying to calculate at least 52 lots of payment, plus any interest from bank accounts etc.... The very thought makes my head hurt [8-)]

    Thanks for all replies [kiss]

  8. Any ideas where I can buy these from around the Perigueux or Nontron areas. Helping to organise a charity event and I need to sell raffle tickets ...... Which would be really easy, if I just knew where to buy them from [:)]
  9. I think we are fast giving up the will to live...... For 5 days any calls I have made, either don't connect, of it they do they disconnect within a few minutes... Talking away and then the penny drops.... nobody on the other end any more [blink]

One call I made was to TC and I got cut off in the middle of that one too... Mind you that worked out quite well, because the female I spoke to was a bit of a bolshie madam, but when I got back through I spoke to the lovely Conception. If you are reading this Mr VP of Teleconnect, I suggest you give Conception a raise - she must me the best asset you have at the moment [:)]

  10. Year 2 of filing French tax forms....

I am a bit confused about the interest on savings.. as to whether i should be using the Net interest figure or the Gross interest figure

Page 2 of the form section B (Autres revenus de valeurs.....) Column 5 is where I put the total of my interest earned (This then transfers to TS on my 2042 form). The heading is "montant net encaisse en euros" This plainly states "NET" and when I went to the tax office last year the man pointed out "Net" and even circled it in pen to make sure I used net figures here. Well to be honest I used net figures for 1 savings account because I knew what the net figure was, but for another one I used the gross figure (This was an ISA that I had no net figure for) as I did not know how to calculate a net figure.

This time round I need to ensure I get it right, so can someone tell me whether I should use gross or net? If the answer is net, do I just take 20% of the total as that is what the UK tax man takes?? Help!!!!

Also I know there is lots of discussion on the forum about using the exchange rate each month when your pension hits your French bank account, but as I don't transfer my money on a monthly basis, I think I am best using an average annual figure. The last I seem to have read on here is 1.25. Has anyone got any updates on this?? Last year I used 1.3636  as supplied by the French News paper, but when I got to the Nontron tax office, I was asked to go home and recalculate everything using 1.42

    Cheers

  11. Chilli flakes or curry powder puts a zing into most meat and veg......

If you are missing salt that much, check with your hospital/dietitian - can you use soya sauce??? , this has a salty taste

Another changing the taste of something boring - Add some grated nutmeg to plain old cauliflour, takes away the need for cheese sauce (Well nearly [:)] )

    Good Luck

  12. [quote user="ErnieY"]Glad to hear it Nell, how exactly have they refunded you ?[/quote]

I have had an email to say that the refund from this months calls will be deducted from next months bill. As for the refund over the DD charge by the bank for the name change - I can see that on this months bill...

[quote user="Quillan"]Nell - What I was talking about is if your ADSL box goes down and you have to use the FT line direct do they refund the cost of any calls on the basis that its not your fault the ADSL box does not work? Has anyone experienced this?[/quote]

All I know, is that while the box was down during this upgrade, there seems to be no problem in getting a refund on the cost of any calls made, should they normally be "free" via the unlimited call option. As to whether this would apply at other times is anyones guess.  How do you prove that the box is down at any given time, other than phone TC and tell them this and that you need to phone the UK. Hardly worth the effort for the very odd occasion this may happen in the future (Hopefully [:)]) Anytime in the past (pre-upgrade month) where my phone line has dropped, a quick reset and all is back to normal, I have never been without the phone for any period of time. Lets hope it continues like that...
