1. Checked on my R43 forms today (I sent them in in May). Was told they had not been received (lost more like [:@]). Eventually I was given a fax number to fax them through and that cost me 9.50 euro at the newsagents..... Phoned back to make sure they had been received and not stuck in the bin and was told "We are in Liverpool, forms go to Nottingham, you can't phone Nottingham, we can't phone Nottingham blah, blah same old same old....."

But she did say they were catching up "We are up to the middle of June now ..... wow [:-))] " So if like me you have heard nothing and you sent your 2008/2009 forms in before the middle of June you best phone 0044 151 210 2222 and press option 2 rather than listen to all the rubbish spouted at the beginning....

Cheers

2. I think it depends on the value of the package as to whether you pay duty. We have ordered single dvd's with no charges incurred, but once ordered 5 in one order. They all came in one package and the post lady "Collected the duty to be Paid"....
3. It is not only late bookings. I had to give all this information when I booked a flight for my son 2 months ago and he is not coming out until October !!!

Half way through the booking process (because you get no advance warning ....) I had to phone him and get all his passport details so that I could complete the transaction. Very annoying. I assumed it was for on-line check in, but obviously not.

4. L'eclerc in Trelissac has such a machine - gives you vouchers to spend in the store, but they are dated (I think you have about a month to spend them !!)

Can only assume all large L'eclerc stores provide the same service. Someone else on here mentioned something about getting "short-changed [Www] " by this machine, but when I used it it was fine. I had counted it all first and then dropped in about 10 euros worth at a time. I does take a while and you can hear the cents trundle down inside... I changed about 90 euro no problem (except carrying it into the store [:D] )

5. I have used one of these machines for about 10 years now and think they are pretty good. As well as using the rolls of plastic for bag making, I also vacuum and seal sandwich bags and freezer bags (bought from Auchan). Much better than those fiddly bits of plastic wire or trying to tie a knot in the bag.
6. I hope I am not breaking any rules here....

Both OH and I have pre-existing medical conditions and this was a question I asked - They don't want to know !!

* Tarifs correct on 01/05/2007. Please note that there is a 50% reduction for second and subsequent card holders.

** This includes cover for members of the family under 25 years who are considered to be under the fiscal charge of the cardholder; ascendants who are under the fiscal charge of the cardholder; the known partner of the cardholder or spouse.

*** Number printed on reverse of Gold MasterCard, accessible worldwide 7 days/7 & 24H/24

7. Dare I say again - Credit Agricole Gold mastercard - no health questions asked, worldwide cover, no questions about are you going to bungee jump etc. etc [:D]

Cost 122 euro a year and that covers member and spouse/partner + any children under about 25 or so. also each time you use the card as a CB (pay shopping, garage, restaurant, whatever, 10 cents for every use comes off next years fee. This may build up to very little for some, but can add up quite nicely for others.

Also subtract 37 euro from the 122 euro, as that is what it costs for a normal CB card per annum

8. Odile - You had me a bit worried there !!!!

Went back to the invitation and it says "Nous avons le plaisir de vous convier à la célébration religieuse qui se tiendra à l'Eglise......"

Invited to the church 16.00 and the vin d'honneur which will be served from 18:00

Thanks Clair for the tweak [:D]

9. Trying to write a card for a wedding I will attend this weekend - Is this correct ??

Félicitations pour votre mariage.
Nous vous souhaitons à tout les deux tout le bonheur, joie et prospérité

(Congratulations on your marriage. We wish you both happiness, joy and prosperity)

It's the "we wish you both" bit I am not certain about [8-)]

Or is there another "standard saying" for a wedding card - I don't know these people personally, It's the Maries daughter and the whole village is invited to the church and for vin d'honneur afterwards. Don't want to put my foot in it [:D]

10. Hi - Thanks for your reply....

Still not fixed the problem, so was thinking of setting up another email address (probably hotmail or gmail).

If she needs to do this, any ideas how to automatically forward email from her orange.fr email account to her new one, so that she does not have to inform all her contacts of her new email address ??

There was something about this on BBC Click program last Sunday, but I wasn't taking a lot of notice. When I tried the BBC web site the "Click" program details are only shown via video or BBCi player and of course not available readily in France

11. Hi - I wonder can anyone help...

A friend came to see me this morning as she is having problems with her orange.fr email.

She can get in, read mails etc. etc., but when she tries to reply or send a new email - she can enter "To" and "Subject", but she cannot type anything in the body of the email.

She logged in on my laptop and was able to send her email, so you would think it is something on her PC, but the other bit of info - her OH has his own email address on the same PC (he uses hotmail.com) and this works fine...

any ideas you wonderful computer wizards out there ??

P.S. her commune does not have ADSL so it's quite a painful experience at the best of times [:-))]

12. When I said give me French food every time, I probably should have thought about it a bit longer.

I never buy processed food French/UK or otherwise.

That's one thing I really enjoy about retirement, I have time to cook everything from scratch - No E numbers or hen's feet here !!! [+o(]

13.
Normal day to day food shopping has gone up year on year for the past 3 years as far as I'm concerned. France is not a cheap place to live. It really makes you wonder if you watch the old uk tv out here when you see the adverts for the supermarkets. A whole load of food for four people for a bbq for £4.50! You struggle to get to chicken breasts for 4.50 Euros here. But as others said its the way of life we came for just wish it was Bl**dy cheaper.
I dread to think what's in the load of food for 4.50 in the uk......... I think it is a bit unfair to compare cheap rubbish sausage and burgers with chicken breast - I know which I would rather eat. Give me French food every time [:D]

14. 2007 they were in this area.... We thought we would drive into Perigueux around 9:00 for a quick shop before the TDF which was scheduled to come through around 15:00......

The grass verges were packed with people and everyone was set up with their picnic tables and chairs ready for a day out [:-))]

I think the secret is - Get there early and treat it like a day at the beach - take your table/chairs/umbrella/picnic/drinks and enjoy the atmosphere as much as the cycles
