  1. I know this is an old posting and not even from my area, but can anyone recommend a chiropractor in the Perigueux or Angouleme area. I have checked out the yellow pages but recommendation would be better....

Also - in the yellow pages it states (Activité : chiropractie (soins hors d'un cadre réglementé)) - does this mean treatment is not covered by CPAM and I don't need to do via my doctor. Yes I know lots of things here do not require a doctor first, just asking to get straight in my mind, before I try to get my back straight !!!!

  2. We have also had problems with signal. Like the original poster, we lost only some channels (BBC, ITV, ITV2 and a couple or others). After a couple of weeks all channels went.....  checked dish, thought it may have moved with the storms, but no it seemed tight on the brackets. OH climbed the ladder, removed the LNB, opened it up and there was water in there, I assume it was iced up with all the freezing temperatures we have had. Took an LNB from an old dish we had in the garage and hey presto it's working again. Looked in Leroys today and a new LNB costs under 20 euro.

  3. I don't think you will get your TIN number until your 1st tax return has been processed (but someone else may come along and tell tou different). We also had this hassle changing bank account addresses....

Get a photocopy of your passport and take it with the original to your French bank or local bank and they should authorise it for you.  I went to the local  Credit Agricole (I do not have an account there !) and they signed and stamped it for me free of charge.

    Hope this helps

  4. Just a personal opinion - Small "English shops" here selling UK ginger nuts, marmite and pork pies etc... What I always wonder when I see this - What happens if there is a product recall because x number of people are in hospital with some strange food poisoning !!! You won't be told on French TV or French newspapers or indeed on the supermarket window that the product has been recalled. So if you buy in bulk in the UK and import here to sell on, then someone in France goes down with some strange stomach bug from what was a recall item, who is liable ??

Presumably if you were buying direct from the manufacturer, you would get a notice, but if you were buying from the big supermarket chains or even someone like Makro you would not know....

Sorry, I don't mean to be negative, but I do think especially with foodstuffs, this would need careful consideration

  5. I did see what you point out on the letter Benjamin, but as you say no mention if piggybackers. It also says on the government website that that you can apply for an "EHIC" on-line, but I am sure this only applies to UK residents.

Cannot phone Monday as I need to go to the hospital in Bordeaux, but I will try Tuesday or Wednesday.... If I get any kind of positive reply (I live in hope [Www] ) I will post the outcome.

Our EHIC (the French ones) expire March, so I will also need to re-apply for them to cover March and April. I wonder will the French authorities renew for a year or for just 2 months !!

  6. OH had a letter this morning to say his EHIC would now be issued from the UK. This letter is from the Pensions department, so I assume this ruling applies to OAP's and E121 holders (but not E121 holders under retirement age). Have looked on UK Direct gov website but that is so out of date it is still giving details on how to apply for an E111 !!!

My question is - what happens to someone like myself who is under retirement age (yes I married an old man [:-))] ) Do I also apply to the UK or do I apply here in France. I am covered here by OH's E121 as a dependant.

    Confused as usual.....

  7. We got them in the Intermarche. I have also asked the butcher in our local Grand Frais and he chopped them off the ends of the legs of lamb for me. What I also do now -  each time I buy a leg of lamb for Sunday dinner, I cut off the "souris", stick it in the freezer, then when I have enough, I cook our favourite curry !!!!
  8. 'Titulaire de formulaire E121 (or whichever E-form you have), donc je ne suis pas a la charge de l'assurance maladie' and leave the amount box blank

I write  this on our tax form, OH has E121 and I am his dependant, but we still pay social charges on my pension (I am still under 60). should I not be paying this tax on my pension?? Now that would be nice....

  9. Like him or hate him, I bet the viewing figures will be the highest ever for question Time. We are all waiting to see if he will show his true colours/ make a Pratt of himself/ come across as Mr nice guy etc. etc...

Personally I can't abide the man and what he stands for, but I will be watching

  10. I also had my gallstones/gallbladder removed here in France about three years ago (these developed after serious parathyroid problems). The only problem I now have after the operation - I cannot use nurofen + tablets. I don't know whether it is the ibuprofen or the small amount of codeine that causes the problem, but I end up in real serious pain and that in turn I think makes me vomit, just like before the operations. I have fell into this trap 3 times without before realising the cause, but never again and I have no desire to find out which of the 2 ingredients causes the problem, I will just steer clear of both. Maybe your wife is on another medication which is not agreeable to her system any more. I know that before my ops, nurofen+ was a staple tablet in our medicine cabinet for all sorts of aches and pains.
