they charged 37.44 euro to do the transaction, but coming the other way via say Moneycorp I would have paid 15 quid to them for the transaction and another 25 to Halifax for a Chaps transfer to the Moneycorp account.
Makes Nationwide @ £25 seem positively a bargain

I know it's the other way round but, a few weeks ago I needed money bringing from UK to France. I did all the sums using Moneycorp etc.etc. and I found the cheapest and best exchange rate was posting a sterling cheque to CA (Britline). Yes they charged 37.44 euro to do the transaction, but coming the other way via say Moneycorp I would have paid 15 quid to them for the transaction and another 25 to Halifax for a Chaps transfer to the Moneycorp account. Also the exchange rate was better by far at CA that anywhere else. If you phone and ask for the exchange rate of the day, you way well be surprised - I was [:)]

Just an update....After much searching I ended up ordering freezer from MaisMoinCher.I reveived an email last Friday to tell me it would be delivered "Tuesday at 10:14 (+ or - 1 hour)"My first thought - Yeah right [:-))]A man in a van turned up with my freezer at 10:13 !!!!!! I have walked round all day totally bemused, so I thought I would share ..... [:)]

I was quite impressed with it. Good taste and bite like cod only a little sweeter if that makes sense....I feel better now that I have read Pommiers post[:)]

I bought mine in Auchan on the fresh fish area and it was not particulary cheap at 13.95 a kilo...But - Never again !!

Tagging onto the back of this post for some advice....At present I have Teleconnect (Yes I could spit too sometimes [blink] ). This service has never recovered from the "big changover" way back when. At present I have to make all my calls via FT and I am re-imbursed by Teleconnect, if they remember - more often than not I am paying too much and hope it will be adjusted correctly the following month. I also find the Connection drops (at least 5 times a week) when the office is closed and I can't phone up and complain [:@], or when I do try to ring, I can't get through[:'(]. I also have a problem where - when I try to go to a website, or even navigating from one page to another within a website, I keep getting "Firefox message - Server not found for ******.com" and I need to hit retry about 6 times before I get the website/page up. (This one might have nothing to do with Teleconnect, but I am sure someone will come back with an answer- Please !!)I am thinking of changing to Uktelecom. It seems to be the same price, but with the added bonus of BBC IPlayer etc...Any good/bad feedback would be welcome. Also - How often does the broadband connection drop with this company?? Is it reliable??. I am considering getting rid of my FT line, but this means if the Voip is down I have no telephone line. My thoughts are, if the Voip is very reliable, then 16 euro per month goes a long way towards my mobile phone bill, should I not be able to get a line out on my UKtelecom voip connection.

I used this recipe this week for spiced plum chutney. The only changes were red wine vinegar rather than cider vinegar and a heavier hand with the chilli flakes [:)]http://localfoods.about.com/od/summer/r/PlumChutney.htm

http://corporate.visa.com/pd/consumer_services/consumer_ex_results.jsp and http://www.caxtonfxcard.com/comparerates.asp?dist=CAXTGENLYou can see the Visa rate and the Caxton rate for today (Visa 1.2183 and Caxton 1.2000)When I checked last Thursday it was 1.212 (Visa) and 1.1955 (Caxton) so seems pretty good to me....You need to read the Fees and charges section and decide which type of card you need. I went for a "EURO" card as all I want it for is to be able to draw eorus out from an ATM machine. I know you can use these type of cards to pay for Ryanair flights at a reduced admin fee, but on the euro card here everything needs to be paid in euros (not a mix of currencies). Anyway, you have the link - read on....I am sure any other suggestions to help stop giving the Nationwide staff even bigger bonuses will be welcomed on this thread.Edit: should also have pointed out, I "think" you may need to have a UK address for this...

And I've just gone for this one....http://www.caxtonfxcard.com/cards_description.aspI pay supermarket etc.. with Nationwide credit card, so will now use this to withdraw euros from ATM to replace debit card use.

Auchan.... Are you sure Shopi does not have them, as out local Shopi does.... normally by the sandwich bags, bin bags and fire lighters !!

Thank you Pachapapa - Why couldn't I find that myself !!Just hope I understand them when they ring to arrange delivery [:D]

I am about to order a Freezer on-line from Villatech, but it says it is 5-10 working days for delivery. Will they email me and let me know when to expect delivery ??, or do I have to stay home for 10 days just in case [:)]Anyone used this on-line site and can tell me ??I ordered a TV from Pixmania about 2 years ago, but that was 1-2 day delivery, so I didn't mind staying put for 2 days, but 10 days !!!!Cheers

Bit confused !!! This newspaper article tells us all what Nationwide "are going to announce today" .......
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/mediacentre/PressRelease_this.asp?ID=1590Convinced now [;-)]
I just knew it....... but didn't want to admit it [:$]Just think lots of swear words on this line [:@]

Bit confused !!! This newspaper article tells us all what Nationwide "are going to announce today" .......Has anyone heard an announcement on TV ?? or anywhere else ??I have been on to the Nationwide site (I am a customer and use debit card to withdraw euros), but I see nothing to announce this piece of news. Is this another bit of bad reporting ?? just like last time when we were told a very similar story

I tried to get VPN and ended up with a virus on my laptop.....Never found anything else. I did use Iportal for a while, but they introduced a subscription. Depending on what you want to watch, Isohunt may be your answer. This is a free download site.

Thanks for the link AN... Looks like I will stay in "Ignorance is Bliss" mode, as I won't go bothering the Prefecture.Yes we both have French licences, changed last year as the UK ones were about to expire. If, as you say the 1st name on the letter gets the point, then I'm happy cos my name is 2nd. Also it was the 1st name on the list who was over the limit [:)]. Mind you he does say it was my fault, I should have told him he was going to fast - Men's logic I suppose [Www][Www]And, yes I agree I have been lucky - I did a lot of miles in the UK and not always at the correct speed !!
-
I would be interested in that site if you manage to find it !!OH got a ticket some weeks ago, letter came in and fine was paid ASAP. But I notice the letter was addressed to M et Mme Xxxxx, presumably because we bought the car in joint names. Curious to find out which of us got the single point, and how do they know which of us it was breaking the 50km limit. I will be very miffed if they have given it to me, can honestly say that in 40 something years of driving I have never had a speeding ticket (lucky or what [:D])

Yes I would agree with you Coops, but like most of us, don't you think it feels good to give less rather than more to the tax man, even if it is only 10 euro reduction in a year [:D][:D]
Britline brilliant assistance...
