  1. I have loads of the things and keep trying to uproot them as they seem to choke anything else nearby. I even tried weed killer but I ended up with beautiful "white" bluebells. The other thing I have in abundance is primroses (well I think they are), but not as I know primroses from my native Northern Ireland. These have clusters of tiny yellow flowers and grow to about 8 inches high very strange... Still I suppose all these lovely wild flowers are better than dandelions!! There again, according to the top chefs, dandelion leaves are a must in a mixed green salad these days, maybe I could make some money!!
  2. Come on! - Where else can you get a room for 29 pounds a night when you book in advance. I have just used this facility I had 2 nights in one travelodge and another 3 nights in another one - all 5 nights working out at 29 a night. A real good saving I would say.

If things do not work I am sure a word with the staff would have sorted things out.

Our 2nd stay was in the Travelodge near the Albert Dock in Liverpool. They  could not have been more helpful. We bought chilled produce and they froze it in their freezer so that we could bring it back to France in a freezer box.

  3. I am looking to rent a static caravan whilst renovating our home. I would like to be able to have the static delivered to my place (we have lots of space to site it on). Does anyone have any ideas of where to start looking for this kind of service, or has anyone done this and can give me an idea of costs ups/downs etc..... Also is permission needed from the Marie (I would ask anyway out of politeness but do I need formal permission?) Any help or advice would really be appreciated. Location Dept 24

  4. If SeaFrance is still on strike it may well be chaos at Dover. We returned from a break in the UK about 10 days ago and the M20 was a joke, all because of the wonderful "Operation Stack"..... Hours of traffic jams and being taken off the motorway and then allowed back on later. Yet, when you are in Calais their equivelent was really well organised and there didn't seem to be the same snarl ups.
  5. You may pay charges, but if booking holidays, etc using your C-A (CB) card you have automatic travel/medical insurance worldwide. Much cheaper than any annual travel insurance you will take out in the UK. Remember pay the holiday with your card and you are automatically covered
  6. All supermarkets and diy type stores stock special cleaners for this job. in the supermarket it is either by the firelighters or the cleaning fluids. Normally called something like "Nettoyant vitres - inserts et fours"
  7. French = armature a toit

    Supplier Point P in Riberac

The man there asks for a form to be filled in to make the estinate, with a bit of sign language and a few sketches you will get by, but they do need to know what kind of tiles you are using and the outside wall dimensions

  8. I have one of those Lakeland jobs that Hoddy was talking about. They are good. I am petrified of spiders but even more petrified of moths. But the Lakeland whatsit gives you lots of courage. Start off  "hoovering up" flies, wasps and small creepies and you will be surprised at how quick you become more brave. If I pick them up (the big ones that is) I then leave them in the whatsit until hubby comes in and let him empty it for me. He knows when to do this - I leave it outside the back door...

  9. My other half is considering importing a classic car from the USA, but trying to calculate the overall cost is a bit of a nightmare. Has anyone done this or can anyone throw some light on the subject. He knows that if the car is over a certain age then we should only have to pay 5.5% import duty and no Vat (Is this correct??)

Thinking about the CoC... We are talking a British car, but an American import (Triumph or MG). What are the implications here??

    Any advice/comments welcomed

  10. Hi JR

I have just joined this forum and read your Eye Saga with interest. I lost the sight in my left eye 33 years ago (Car accident - I went through the windscreen - This was in the days before seat belts were law!!) I was left with the eye but was blinded. I went through about 10 years of different operations to regain the sight etc.. but eventually I had the eye removed about 1983 I think. All this sounds dreadfull, but I just want to tell you I have had no problems adjusting, and especially since I had the eye removed and an artificial eye fitted, I have never looked back (excuse the attempt at humour!!!) I drive a French car and have no problems. Believe me you will easily adjust. Going back to car driving - I spoke to the DVLA years ago about this and they said I did NOT need any note on my licence as one good sighted eye is enough to drive with. I do mention this to car insurance companies though as I think it is best they know the situation, so they have no "Cop Outs" later. I am NOT charged any extra on my premium for this.

You mentioned somewhere you were getting detatched retina trouble - I had this a couple of times in the beginning. When they tll you in hospital to take it easy they really mean it. I was told I my second detatchment was caused by hoovering!!! Bending and lifting are OUT until your eye has settled down again.

Believe me "Things can only get Better" and you will wonder what all the worry was about. And Yes your other eye will get stronger through time.

If you want to talk about this email me your telephone number and I can contact you

Kind Regards Nell in Dept 24
