1. Will your French insurance company, insure a UK registration plate car and let you drive it in the UK??? I ask this question because we looked at buying a motorhome in Germany. When we asked the insurance company they said they could insure us on a temporary basis (until we got french plates) for 30 days, but we would only be insured to drive within France. We would have to sort something else out to cover us until we got to the French border...
  2. Yipeeeeee - 4 months later and I have got my refund (Well nearly - I have got the letter to explain how the figures are calculated and that the money has been paid into my nominated bank account. Looking at my bank account on-line, yes, it tells me the money has been paid into my account but will not be available until the 15th [8-)]    I thought a transfer of funds was available right away, only a cheque needed to be cleared, but obviously that is not correct if the transfer is from the tax man [:-))]

Anyone else still waiting - Keep pestering them....

  3.
Third one on the trot tomorrow-so turn off any none essential electrics[I]
May sound a bit daft, but what is this?? Is all of France on a red day?? or just some areas?? how do I find out???

How much more does it cost today??

  4.
I know that others will say that I should cook my own meals which I do, but it would be nice and very easy to be able to slip a really appetising dish into the microwave when time is at the essence!

Does anyone else feel this way?
When I cook Thai or curry or savoury pies or lots of things really - I cook double portions and stick one of them in the freezer, so that when I know time will be of the essence, out comes our ready meal and into the oven/microwave it goes...... Who needs ready meals from Marks with lots of E's [:)]

  5. I took advantage of the last sale and asked for the items to be delivered to my sons UK address - Still waiting..... though in all fairness, I think it is the delivery company that is at fault, but I have to go via Marks to chase my package. Still, no more money going to M&S until my first delivery is sorted. Ordering on-line is good, but when it goes wrong it's a real pain in the butt [:'(]
  6. Another lovely flavour to add to your shortbread - stem ginger (as in a jar with sugar syrup) finely chopped and added just before rolling out. I made some with this last week and OH scoffed the lot within 2 days. Not good for the waistline, but yummy [:D]
  7. Just to tell you how I  (the original thread poster) am getting on with this.....

As I said, all relevant forms were sent in August. Phoned end of September and told forms were received Sept 4th. (Oh good at least they have got them!!)

Phoned 2 weeks ago to see where things were up to.. "Sorry Mrs. there is a great backlog blah blah blah..., but I will put your name on a spreadsheet - that tells Nottingham you want your forms processed. They will phone you in the next couple of days". Guess what NO call [:-))]

Phoned again this Monday - same rubbish spouted as last time, but said my name on the spreadsheet this time would be highlighted

Well I got a very apologetic phone call today (They can find OH's forms, but not mine) They tell me, they do have my forms, just can't place them amidst the chaos at the minute. Anyway, after giving them some details over the phone I am told they will credit my bank account in the next few days with my overpaid tax and will inform my tax office to change my tax code so that tax will not be taken from my pension. So I await payment soon I hope, hope, hope....

The number I am calling is 0151 210 2222. This is a Liverpool number, not a Nottingham number. I think if you are getting a bit of a runaround you should ask to have your name put on the spreadsheet so that someone from Nottingham can call you. Try asking for a food parcel too [:D][Www][:D]

    Good luck

  8. 20% discount with Norfolklines  (I posted that on this thread last Friday). You need to telephone book, I did this yesterday for my December crossing as I don't think Speedferries will be back anytime soon..... BUT - check your prices online first. When I was booking the young lady gave me a price that was supposed to be 20% discount, but was in fact the full price. When I questioned this she got out her calculator and took the 20% off.....
  9.
I waited as long as I could, but have made a back up booking with Sea France (£23 including the dog!!!). If it is curtains for Speedferries, I for one will miss them.
How did you manage this??? - I have just tried Seafrance and was quoted 98 euro - am I missing something?? I can't even get a sterling rate because I need crossing France to UK and return.

Norfolkline seem to be offering 20% discount to Speedferry ticket holders (you need to supply a booking reference), but you can't book on-line, it must be done by phone.

  10. J.R. - I know my friend uses the supervoucher system, but as to whether he got a refund for the whole voucher, or whether it was just for 1 cancelled crossing for the date he was due to travel, I don't know - all he said in the text was that he got a refund!!

As for my spelling mistakes - I think we should have a vote and send the results to admin regarding the introduction of spell checker on this forum (like another forum I know) Yes I know I can type in Word, then cut and paste and all manner of other things, but hey, why not make life a little more simple and help stop us making fools of ourselves with typos caused by speedy fingers over the keyboard [:)]

  11. A friend of mine drove north yesterday to catch ferry today. He had to re-book with Norfolk lines. Just had a text from him - On the way yesterday he drove via Boulougne on his way to Dunkirk, called into the Speedferry office and managed a refund on his tickest !!! I'm sure by the time I get there in December the office will be just a distant memory....  Oh well, back to my shared glass of Red with J.R. gone native [B]
  12. I notice this says crossings have been cancelled 14,15,16 November. Does this mean they are running today [8-)] [Www]

I can only assume my ticket money has disappeared into the wide blue yonder...... and I need to book with someone else

Is there anyway to try and get my money back ?? or do I just give a shrug of the shoulders (Well I do live in France now [:D] ) and move on...

Between Speedferries, the Euro Rate and the cut in UK interest rates I am starting to get rather depressed - Is it time for a glass of Red yet ?? [B]

  13.
I agree, I had mine yesterday by my doctor  - ok it cost 22 euros of which 20 euros is reimbursed . Can't see what the fuss is about  - just make a RDV at the docs!
I went to the Doctor to get the jab eventually. From my original post you will see it was not a matter of money - it was what I considered a waste of a doctors valuable time.....

  14. Thanks for the replies...

B - looked at yellow pages, I know where the nurses office is - I can just never find it open, and I am not confident enough with the language to talk on the phone (Yes - I know how very sad - but there we are!!)

P - Yes I could go to the doctor, but I feel it it a bit of a waste of his time, just like I think it is awaste of time to book a nurse to come to the house when I can go there.... But I will take you advice and ask at the chemist (I can make myself understood talking face to face, but the phone is like the monster from hell [:'(] )

Tony - As the famous tennis player said "You cannot be serious" [+o(]

  15. I now have my flu vaccine from the chemist and need a nurse to administer the injection. I know that I can ask the nurse to come to the house for this, but to be honest I find this a waste of nursing time. Does anyone know of a nurses office I can go to to get my jab? I am around the Brantome / Nontron / Perigueux area. Thanks...

  16. I hope all our monies are safe... I don't know about others, but my OH and myself worked hard for what we have and the thought of some "financial wizard" playing games and gambling with our money makes by blood boil.

As for S17's comment about investing for higher returns - Yes I would probably agree if JR had put his money into a dodgy share market, hoping to make a fast buck, but putting money into a common savings account should never be classed as higher risk !! Icesave accounts and the like, pay around 5-6% gross. Savers don't particulary make lots of money on these investments, all we do is try to keep up with inflation.

I don't think the blame here lies with the saver, it lies at the door of all those greedy individuals who "buy now - pay later" - Oh except they forget to pay [:@] - So if you think about it the Government is not bailing out savers, it is paying off the debts of those who overspend and decide to "walk away" from their negative equity houses, expensive cars and overstretched lifestyle.
