  1. What a load of bull, ther are jobs out there for English people you just have to be willing to send out a lot of CV's and not get alot of responses. I am speaking from experience before anyone comments, this is of course before I start my new job at Airbus in Toulouse (and I am in no way fluent and I do not have an A level education, to answer those 2 points), you just have to be prepared to be patient. You know it really pees me off that no one can ever say anything positive to those who wish to join us here in France, yes be truthful but at least be unbiased. The only point I can agree with is to start to learn French as this will be invaluable, but I suggest that this is just common sense if you intend to come here and contribute. Sorry if some find this a bit point blank, but as the saying goes you get out what you put in and you will never know unless you try. Bon chance PS if you want to know anymore aboutmy individual experience PM me.   Alec
  2. Hi, I have been offered a job working with Airbus in Toulouse, and I am desperately seeking lodgings at the lowest price possible. I have less than a week so very urgent. Initially for a month but after that for at least 6 months. It needs to be within easy reach of Tournefouille (just found out).   thanks Alec   PS what time do the buses and metro start to run?
  3. Looking for appartment/house renta in or near Marseille. Looking for something for 6 months to start with a view to being longer. Needs to have two bedrooms the rest is unimportant. Would consider a gite/chambre d'hotes long winter let for the right price.   Many thanks   |Alec
  4. Well I did think about going naked but have decided probably wouldn't get passed security....... I was surprised also that I got an interview especially as the job is 600km away from where I live and that they have arranged a video conference for my interview 100km away from where I live, and should that go OK they wioll pay for me to go to their offices for the 2nd interview.   I think I have been really lucky with this so far so am keeping my fingers crossed. For those interested as I don't own a suit that fits me anymore as I have lost so much weight and I can't afford a new one just yet have decided to go with the dark trousers blue shirt and nice tie look.   Many thanks
  5. Ok I know I am going to look a complete idiot by asking this question, but what the hell...   Ok i have an interview for a rather large company, I have never had a interview in France before and I wanted to know what I should wear, is it a case of what I would wear in England or is there some unwritten French rule that you must look/dress a certain way ????   I know it might come in handy for others too.
  6. Hi all,   All being well after my interview I will be looking for a room to rent in Marseille, for a period initially of about 6 months but possibly longer. My needs are minimum but I will need internet access for my PC, to keep in touch with my family. I am 30 yrs old and a non smoker. I can cook (ex chef) and don't mind cleaning if that is of any benefit. I would greatly appreciate mails from anyone who has a room to rent fairly cheap or is a friend of a friend who has a friend kind of thing.   Many thanks   Alec
  7. Can anyone recomend a Chiropodist near Aigre Mansle areas? Prefer English speaker if possible.   PM me please so as not to break the law.   MAny thanks
  8. My experience is that I am a qualified chef and have worked for many years in deiiferent kinds of restaurants from , pubs and bars to restaurants and brasseries. Yes I do intend on registering, I came here for a French life so I have to accept the good things (the sun and the climate not this year tho) and the bad (taxes etc).   I am based not far from Aigre and Mansle but for obvious reasons I will be mobile and depending on the "business" will depend on how far I am willing to travel.   I also thought about setting up a gite/ home and property maintenance kind of business I have a friend who does this in the south of the region, which includes airport shuttles etc.
  9. OK, Having had so much trouble trying to find a job I have decided to create my own work.   I am at the market research stage at the moment, so what I am after is some feedback on the following. Would people out there be interested in the following: buying homemade country style breads, breadcakes, ovenbottoms from myself made using my bread oven, which is huge and definately big enough to do quite a few. I am also think of setting up an English shop that goes around the markets in the charente would anybody use this regularly? I would also be selling other things like pasties, pies, steak and kidney puddings all frozen and ready to be defrosted and cooked in your own homes, along with other "ready prepared" meals. I also plan to make desserts, apple crumbles victoria sponges etc. I would also be interested to know if there would be any call for someone to come to your homes to cook for small dinner parties. I can prepare menus or these at varying price levels per head.   I kow it's alot but sometimes you have to make your own future.   Regards  Alec
  10. Sounds great, if you could find out it would be great.   many thanks   Alec
  11.     Hi all, We are a couple 30 & 33 looking for a restaurant / bar etc to rent. We are looking for a place to rent the FDC and the walls together. We would prefer in the Charente (16) but anywhere in France will be considered. We are both qualified but do not have quite the capital to buy somewhere outright. If anybody knows of anywhere please let us know through here, or if you have somewhere for rent please contact me on 06.23.67.07.70 and ask for Alec. thanks for reading
