On a slightly different note, I am about to move to France at the beginning of September and we will be taking our UK registered car with us. This is insured with a UK company until the end of the year, is it ok to see this through or will I need to cancel it and take out insurance with French based company? Thanks Andy

Yep. Actual rental for a week is £265. On top of that is insurance at £52 for the week and then 9p per mile over the 100 that you are allowed per day. The return trip is roughly a 1000 miles so basically thats another £27 on top

Hi All, I am just about to move from the London area down to a house just south of Chalon in Burgundy (mid to late August). Having phoned several van hire firms and scoured this site and few others I am resigned to the fact that no one does one way rentals..I will therefore be returning to the UK with an empty Luton Van so if anyone wants to fill it with something, let me know and we can split the cost. Of course if anyone else has recently found a better way to do this please let me know. A week's rental from Kendall in Surrey works out at £344 plus about £100 for the boat and £100 for tolls and petrol Andy
