1. Yes I definitely think he is now past it. The last few times I've seen him try to sing it has been cringeworthy. He should retire gracefully ?.

And to think I had a poster of him on my bedroom wall as a teenager ?
2.
Well that is quite easy Richard. You move to pro active modern areas where people don't give a tôss where you are from and would prefer to speak to you in English so they can practice their English. I have given up on speaking French. People want to talk to me in English.

.
So true, any of our French neighbours that speak English like to speak to me in English. I seem to rarely speak French except when shopping.
3. You would think so Judith you would grab your bag. Unfortunately our fire happened so quickly at the time all I could think of was trying to get my daughter out (She took her mobile phone), and our 2 dogs and 3 cats. The cats were sleeping peacefully on a bed so I had to run back into the house filling up with smoke to get them out. Sadly one cat died as he wouldn't let me save him.

Passports, birth certificates and important documents were the last thing on my mind. If I'd had time I would have grabbed my jewellery case which had irreplaceable pieces of jewellery. I just didn't think!
4. I love that description Wooly ?.

We had an amazing storm last night, I was outside at 1 am watching it. Lightening all over the sky with rumbles closely following. I was lucky as just after I went back to bed the heavens opened and we had about an hour of torrential rain. Praise the Lord (or whoever I thought).

It drizzled for a bit this morning, and once it stopped I took the dog's out for a walk, the first time in weeks.

However one of our water butts didn't appear replenished and after my hours walk I needed a shower, not from rain I add.

So we've had a day off from the intense heat but will it last? I have family arriving next week so for them I hope the weather is good.

For most of our time in France we were not in the situation of other than 'having' to have proper paperwork. So we did.

Debra, especially with the health care problems you did exactly the right thing. And the details you have given are great!

I would always have one, but I learned a long time ago in France that being 'in' their system is very comforting for fonctionnaires.

For those who don't think they should get a CdS and have been in France

for quite a  while and are what appears to me to be rather complacent or

should that be compliant, with what french fonctionnaires are telling

you, well don't bother.

What I don't 'get' about some of the questions from some of you who have been in France for quite some time, is how you haven't assimilated 'rale'ing'.  Especially when you have the written proof on here and are being told nonsense by your prefecture. The french do it all the time, it is the only way to deal with the authorities.

ps, It has been said on here over many many years, but keep all your paper work. Amazing how it comes in when needed.

I agree Idun but when you have a house fire and lose absolutely everything, as we did, no one really can foresee these circumstances.

We obtained copies of passports, driving licences, birth certificates, marriage certificates, carte vitales but not in a million years did we ever think we would need to replace divorce documents.

My advice would be to keep all important documents in a safe place where you can grab easily should the need ever arise.

Hopefully you will never need to ?

6. I can see lightening, but that's it.

We need RAIN overnight every night for the next few days.

I seem to be spending more time indoors than out, we have a pool so that's about it for outside.

But then of course there is the dreaded dead heading to do, it never ends.

Just a tad cooler would be nice with a bit of overnight rain.

I love in a dream world don't I? ???

7. Thanks Debra, very useful.

However, if ones prefecture refuses to accept that you have the right to have one, what does one do.

I'm glad you mentioned Perigueux, they have always been awkward even with issuing a carte vital 10 years ago.

Surely the same should happen in every prefecture?
8. Well I thought I'd better get the ball rolling, so emailed via the gouv website to ask for a RDV just to be told what documents are needed etc etc. Our prefecture, Perigueux don't give any info on their website.

Here is the email I received in reply:

Bonjour,

cordialement

If I've understood that correctly they're saying as British we don't need one? Oh, while we wait for a RDV.

Why can't all depts do the same or is that just too easy.

Haven't these people heard about Brexit? ?

9. Has anyone applied to the prefecture in Perigueux? Is so, was it uncomplicated and do they ask for translated documents?

I enquired and was told that I need to make a RDV to be told what we need to produce and be given the documents to apply.

I have a feeling that Perigueux are one of the awkward ones.
10. If there was absolutely no chance of recovery with a reasonable brain function, I would rather die.

I hope I never have to go through this with any of my family.

My mum, bless her, is 92 this year. She has vascular dementia and forgets our phone conversations and repeats over and over again. She does know who I am and asks about my children, husband so she does have some memory.

But as for living in a vegetative state, is that living? I think not.

11. Since my original post, I'm pleased to say our puppy has been going through the night from 23h to 09.00. So we're very pleased with that.

We adopted a dog from the SPA last Saturday. A similar age to our boy , around 6 months. So far so good, they both go in cages last thing and go round to 8am.

They're similar ages and so far seem to play fight a lot of the time.

Ideal playmates? Or a match made to be. We believe in fate. The SPA dog was the only female (which we wanted) and it was just by chance we went. Karma?? Perhaps but we think she found us, not the other way round.

Either way she's a lovely mix breed dog and is fitting in nicely with us all.

12. We have been here for 10 years after living in a damp and grey climate in Brittany.

We moved further south for an improvement in the weather.

Of the 10 years here, this has been the coldest, wettest and gloomiyest winters and spring that we have so far experienced in France.

I don't mind cold but can't bear the rain and grey sky.

Please weather God let us have summer.
13. For some reason, not sure why, I've noticed our freshly washed clothes seem to smell musty.

Our machine has a cleaning cycle which I've used but next wash still smelt of musty old dishcloth.

I'm putting white vinegar and household soda in the machine tonight on a boil wash.

Does anyone else have/had the same problem and if so how to cure it/did you cure it.
14.

I have only ever used a dishwasher once, it followed a wedding anniversary and around 400 messy plates etc to be cleaned of curry or lasagne.  It had two setting 2 mins or 4. I used 4mins and everything cam out clean and hot.  That's the kind of dishwasher i would buy. [;-)]

Sorry don't know what happened with my post.

So here goes again

Only set mine for 45° during cheap rate at lunchtime

Dishwasher is making weird noises so for safety don't use anymore overnight.

Used to set at 70° on overnight cycle.

My eco cycle takes forever so how can it be eco??
