  1. This 2nd PC used to work with a different Wanadoo dongle, but since our move and the change of Livebox the old dongle wouldn't work. We bought the new dongle and CD to install it, but oddly enough when it installs the driver it is EXACTLY the same dongle as the old one!   I'll give it another go today and if it doesn't work I'll go and bury it in the garden!!  Just to make me feel better that is. No, it's not Vista its windows XP. Any further suggestions?
  2. No, and I've disabled the AV software that I use so this is not the problem.   I am pretty computer literate, but this problem is really perplexing me so any suggestions appreciated.
  3. I am tearing what hair I have left out!We have one PC connected to Livebox via an Ethernet cable, a wifi laptop also connected and have spent this week trying to connect a third computer using a dongle as it is not wifi. We bought the dongle 29,99 euros and the damn thing does not seem to be picking up the internet.  It is showing the livebox on its Wifi in range, but trying to go through the process of it actually accepting the dongle and finally getting the internet has been a nightmare.   According to the instructions which we have followed we should get to a step which asks us to key in the wifi key, but for some reason during the installation it seems to skip this stage.    We have pressed the WIFI button on the livebox, we watch the signal going across and trying to be picked up, and at one stage we even got passed this to the TEST stage.   This is where we always seem to get scuppered.Any ideas or suggestions anyone, please?
  4. Those last 3 weeks of sunshine was wonderful, I know we need the rain but, now it has started again will it ever stop?? Not been here in Feb before so just wondered. Edited by mod - Sorry, just too difficult to read in turquoise! RH.
  5. Following on from other posts since my original post, I think my letter is a bit different.   It doesn't mention anything about rights up until 30 Sept 08, it mentions something about how we will receive by post after the summer 2008, inviting us to declare our resources for the year 2007 in order to maintain our "CMU de residence" and to calculate our eventual cotisation for the period 1/10/08 to 30/09/09. I am just so reassured that it looks like we will be ok, but that doesn't take away the fact that there are others who must still be very worried and I hope that their situation will be resolved sooner rather than later. Like others, I wish to thank FHI for all their hard work at keeping us informed.
  6. Thanks Clair you are a gem!   Our administrative situation has changed because this letter has come from our old CPAM in Dept 22, and we are sending bits and pieces off to our new CPAM in Dept 24 I am assuming that it will be ok. To update our CV, we just go to CPAM and put the card into the machine, is that correct?
  7. We have received a letter from CPAM today and I just wondered if it is another standard letter being sent to everyone. From what I can make out of the translation I think they are saying that during rhe summer we will receive a letter asking us to provide income for the year of 2007 so they can work out our cotisations for 2009. Is this saying that our cartes vitales won't be accepted in pharmacies, clinics, hospitals etc. while this new "arrangement" takes place? Thanks for your help, has anyone else had one of these?
  8. I apologise that my original question seems to have sparked a riot. 30 euros a month is quite a lot of money to us,that is on top of the petrol to get there and back, plus air ticket to fly and no, its not for flitting back to a second home, we don't have a second home in UK, our home is in France.   The purpose is for going to work on a shift pattern of 2 weeks working, 2 weeks home.   But, if it has to be paid then it has to be paid, I was just wondering originally if there were any cheaper options for the belief that it's better in our pocket than theirs.   Sorry if that upsets people. Given the choice we'd prefer to work in France, but you all know how difficult that one can be.

    Advocado stones

Thanks Clair I'll give that a go,but, how do you get a matchstick into the stone without causing it damage?   That must be a trade secret!

    Advocado stones

Sorry about spelling, I should say avocado, just checked.
  12. Has anyone had any success with planting a stone from an advocado?   I've tried a few times leaving the stone in some water, after cutting the bottom off but nothing happens. I would be pleased to even get a nice houseplant from one if that is possible. Also, being new to the SW of France, what time of year do you start planting  radishes, carrots, parsnips etc.   Is it about a month before the date recommended for the UK, being as the climate should be better here? Many thanks
  13. At Bergerac Airport, I've looked at the parking charges, and wondered if there is any parking available near enough to the airport that is cheaper, or even better free? We will be needing to park the car for 2 weeks every month and it will work out quite expensive this way.
  14. Many thanks for your help.  I've looked at the website and can see the best route as suggested. Another question, do you need to have change for a machine to buy a ticket, can you pre buy the tickets at the normal railway station or can you pay by French bank card? As the time is very short for the connections it would be useful to know how it works in advance.   Thanks again for help.
  15. Can anyone advise of the quickest or best and easiest way please? I presume it would be by the Paris Metro, but is it within walking distance?
  16. 1) what does dispositif reflechissant lateral orange mean she's doing something regarding scooters for technology and we can't find the translation for this many thanks
  17. We have the land, we've drawn up our own design for a house in a very amateurish way and will obviously need to get either a maitre d'oeuvre or architect to do the proper job. Does anyone have any experience, recommendations of someone to use (around the Sarlat area) or advice about which is best to use and what the differences are? We are thinking of doing a lot of work ourselves but will need a bricklayer to construct the basic shell of the house, foundations, fosse septic, then a roofer, electrician, plumber etc.   Does anyone have any useful advice, has anyone done this themselves? Can anyone offer the translation in French to ask for a "basic shell", ie. foundations, floors, external walls, roof? It is all a very new challenge for us so any useful suggestions/advice is welcome.   We only want a small Grand Design!!
  18. I think the following is saying "following your new situation your rights will be protected until 31/10/08" they say in a letter received today "sela de nouvelles disposition, vos droits pourrant etre prolages au 31/10/2008" looks like they still aren't sure what is going on, has anyone else had the same letter from CPAM
  19. Thanks for that I think OH will have to explore other options for getting to UK. Has anyone travelled from the SW e.g. Bergerac to Caen by rail?   If so is it a good journey, direct or via Paris?
  20. From the point of walking distance if one was parked at either, are they close enough walking distance? Many thanks
  21. I think this form needs to be completed for a change of address? Do I just complete the section for "changement de domicile" or does the whole form need completing, e.g. date of birth and all the car details on the second page? Does anyone know what the sous prefecture is like, ie. are they busy (do I need to take a flask & sarnies for the wait), helpful in Sarlat? Many thanks
  22. Our kindly farmer spotted him in a field laying down, he tried to call him but Taz just grumbled at him - the daft dog doesn't realise when he's trying to be helped. So the farmer came to tell us and OH went to get him.   Of course at first he thought he was dead when he saw him lying still.   But once he called his name, the tail started wagging and he tried to leap up but couldn't because of his stiff leg/hip. Because of the breed he is, he really is a one family dog, he responds to no one but us.   A good thing in a way because there is no way he would let someone steal him.
  23. He's always had the wanderlust in him, every opportunity he's ever had to escape then away he has gone.   He's too short to jump fences, but he can get through an open gate/door pretty damn quick. Here is a photo of the wanderer, what a handsome chap!   Sorry I couldn't work out how to downsize the photo.
