    Dog having fits

thanks for your reply grumpy, we saw the vet on thursday morning, she explained how common dog having a fit can be and it might be just a one off or might mean epilepsy. She took bloods which all came back ok so at the moment she has been prescribed diazepam (strangely enough which we collected from the pharmacy) for one week, and then when she comes off them to see how it goes. A very distressing couple of days for us but thankfully all is well at the moment.

    Dog having fits

Late yesterday afternoon our lovely dog was sleeping quietly in her bed, and initially I thought she was having a dream but things were different to usual. Her head was upwards and she was making a strange noise clicking her teeth, jerking her legs and dribbling. It lasted just a couple of minutes and afterwards she was back to normal, even going out in the garden and playing with our kitten. Around 10pm last night it happened again, only this time seemed worse. Once it finished she tried to get up but was slipping on the wet floor where she had dribbled so we guided her to safety and kept her calm. I phoned the emergency vet who suggested just to keep an eye on her overnight, but to get her to the vet today for a blood test. This we are going to do. I am so worried that the problem is related to an intermittent back/leg problem that she gets from time to time, as in pain when trying to stand and walk. Usually with a dose of her intiinflammatory (Meloxivet) she is fine the following day or a few hours after. Anyone else had similar doggie problems?
  3. Thanks all, looks like a bit of visiting around insurance agents is on next week. One problem I'm having with trying to get online quotes is understanding all the details on the carte gris, like CV?? I'm sure there was a post on here a while ago detailing what it all means but I sure can't find it.
  4. Our daughter will be the owner as she's bought the car from her own savings, and will therefore be the owner on the CofI, so will that make a difference to the insurance if we ask to be the named driver?
  5. Our daughter is buying a car after driving for 2 years. She did her driving with ECF and had the 2 year accompanied driving which helped her pass her test the first time. Can anyone recommend a reasonable insurance company please.
  6. We have exactly this problem with one of our toilets. So, recommendations of glue please? Our plumber told us to use grout but that hasn't secured the toilet.
  7. We often have a problem trying to use our French debit card, particularly at petrol stations. Glad you sorted it I suspect a blip at Leclerc.
  8. We've rescued a neglected kitten who is almost constantly hungry, and will eat the dog biscuits in between. He weighs 2.6 kg and we have dewormed him a few days ago. We know his age and background so that's not a guess. He is looking better than when we first had him but is his weight and appetite for food normal?
  9. Wonderful news about the clear lymph nodes. Hope all the other problems get sorted out soon so you can eat and feel good again. Thoughts and best wishes to you and Mrs G.
  10. Thanks Chrissie, guess that's something else that's bitten the dust.
  11. For about a year I've been using Filmon to watch live TV occasionally and to record using the 10 hours free recording facility. However, for the past few weeks it won't let me record anything, saying that I haven't got enough space to record - even though I've deleted everything I had recorded. Does anyone know if this free recording has now stopped, or what the problem might be? Thanks
  12. great photo, we tried to get photos through the special glasses but all we got was glare. we had a good view of it, in between the cloud cover.
  13. Thanks to all for replies. I bought Science et vie magazine today which has a set of special glasses.
  14. Anyone know if it's possible to buy the special glasses in France, and if so where? What's the best way to project an image? (I never was very good at science or physics).
  15. I've found it seems to vary depending on which hospital I went to. For instance, Claudius Regaud at Toulouse always issued a bon de transport on the day of the appointment but the municipale hospital at Toulouse, Rangueil, I nèeded an "entente prelable" which has to be sent off to CPAM at least two weeks in advance. I have an appointment myself at the Oncopole next week so hope I can ask for a bon de transport. Incidentally I am around 170 kms distance for a single trip, so don't know if the distance has anything to do with it. All the best for your treatment and recovery after your hospitalisation.
  16. Thanks GG, I assume because it's a noise exactly like chewing and always at night it is a mouse. Wouldn't wasps be a daytime problem?
  17. I am being driven to distraction by a mouse or mice! It's been a problem for a couple of months but doesn't seem to be getting any better as they are now in the cavity walls. We've filled in all possible holes where they could have been getting in. I bought a sonarl plug in thing which hasn't worked. It was quite easy to get rid of them when they were appearing in the kitchen and garage, simply by using mouse traps. So the problem is not in our living space anymore but between the floorboards and ceiling upstairs and all cavity walls. If they/it got in but can't now get out, how long can it survive without food or water? I do hear what sounds like a chewing sound so I expect they're consuming insulation or at least making nests. I don't want to use poison because we have cats and a dog. The cats really are useless at anything inside the house but even they can't get to the area where I think the problem is. Any suggestions?
  18. Quillan - play store on the TV or on the tablet please?
  19. I've got the smart hub working, but still need to pair my samsung galaxy tab 3 with the smart tv,I have a feeling this will not be easy. Also we can't seem to browse the web via IE, chrome or any other web browser as everything appears via you tube. I guess I'll spend far too many hours trying to suss it all out.
  20. Do you need a pretty fast internet speed to get the internet through the smart tv? I keep getting an error message and wondered if our speed is too slow at 2 mb? Thanks
  21. Just to update on this topic. End of January still no prelevement taken. I phoned CPAM English line who established that Urssaf had not been contacted by our CPAM to advise on what we pay. CPAM themselves are saying for Oct/Nov/Dec we don't need to pay anything (??? usually we do) but the technician at CPAM English line is saying that if we've had a letter from them saying what our cotisations should be then we should be paying every 3 months! It sounds like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I'm waiting for a call back either to confirm they will take the payment, and if not I've asked for a letter to confirm we don't owe them anything for the three months they say. Very odd, any update from you Danny?
  22. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of using these and whether they actually work? Would they affect a cat or dog, ie could they hear the bleeps that we can't? We do have quite a big mice problem, can't use poison because we have 3 cats and a dog. They're also in places like between the cavities so can't set traps in these places. The cats are not earning their keep at the moment so I might have to sack them :).
  23. Thanks for the information Danny, it would have been courteous for Urssaf to send out a letter though wouldn't it.
  24. Sorry to hear your problem Vette. Hoping someone may have an answer to my post
  25. Urssaf are usually very hot on taking the quarterly payments, however our prelevement that should have been taken on 31st December still hasn't gone, so I'm getting a bit worried. The previous prelevement at end September was taken exactly on the day they said it would be. Has anyone else had this? I don't find Urssaf the easiest of people to deal with so not sure what to do. Thanks
