  1. ah, yes that might be a small stumbling block, though a lot of these problems are generic I guess. But you are right, I couldn't see the wood for the trees. Tx
  2. There is a website called http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk which may provide some help? I am not sure who owns or runs the site, and it has a forum, so I don't know if I am breaking rules by giving you the details?
  3. Not really, by definition the UK would have to have missed interest or capital repayments on borrowings to be in default. So no we are not in default by definition or technically. We may be in the merde, but at no point can you say we are bankrupt by your argument.
  4. Supply and demand. Same with season tickets on trains. Rush hour is £25 when a mother and 3 kids after 10am can travel for a pound a child and minimal for herself.
  5. only answer then is to terminate the contract on the basis they will not respond. The fact that the lady was blunt, probably suggests there are a fair few people in your situation.
  6. Try calling : YOU ARE NOT A CUSTOMER YET 0805 81 7000 (Free call in France) +33 499 772 724 (from abroad) They will want new business, so I am sure will pick you up. Once you have a real person on the line, insist they give you a name and non-pool number for you to call for your issue, and in the meantime get them to transfer you through as well. Worth a try I think ? OR try this number and get an echange on your modem What must I do with the modem, on an exchange or cancellation? You have to call us on free n° 0805 02 4000 and we will tell you exactly what to do. You are supposed to return the modem to us, at our logistics address, which we will supply at that time.
  7. I have tried to check the historical snow record on www.snow-forecast.com but my subscription has run out. However I would think that the chances of snow on the doorstep are probably not guaranteed at all in December. Precipitation in the Pyrenees is fairly random at the best of times.
  8. The problem with depreciation is that it is generally seen as a way to solve economic issues without the political cost of adressing fiscal and/or moetary imbalances. I.E Governments don't like raising interest rates and/or raising taxes during times of economic hardship. Unfortunately, any competetiveness gained from a weaker currency is often squandered through inflation and uncompetetive buisness. If you look at Germany post the reichmark and the UK, it is fair to say that manufacturing has survived far better despite being saddled with expensive exchange rates than in the UK where we tend to look for currency weakness to keep our manufacturing sector competetive.
  9. Hi all, I'm sorry, but I wasn't very good at managing to carry out your instructions as the local pool companies didn't appear to have anything that tested for CYN, and I didn't shock the pool as when we arrived, the poolsquad SWG was coping well without use! I did add four chlor long duration tablets in to the skimmers though as the first morning after use, chlorine levels were low again on the test strips. One good thing happened, and two bad. Firstly Chlorine levels were perfect, but PH fell out of bed to 6.3 and alkaline levels too (40)  Fortunately i got a pool maintainence guy to check the pool and SWG. He has re-calibrated the PH sensor on the pool squad so that PH rests at around 7.2/7.3. He also added another 25KG of salt which moved that figure up to around 5 (on whatever scale it is) and hey presto, chlorine production is excellent running at 60% of the SWG's capacity. He also told me that if I really needed to add chlorine in the future, then 'chlor 4 actions' would be better to avoid the PH and alkaline problems. So, ultimately it seems the pool setup really does like a higher PH and higher salt concentration to work efficiently. Thanks again for all the advice.
  10. Thanks for the comments! I was a bit gobsmacked at the time. The begining of the video (not shown) is from about 50 metres, but they drifted over a ridge and behind the bushes. I crept down there hoping to get a closer look, but didn't realise I would get within 10 or 15 metres.   Giles
  11. http://www.georgewhiteeuropean.co.uk We used him last week (after recommendation from a friend) and found him very good. The only problem is doorstep delivery as he uses a 16.5 metre lorry, so your access needs to be good. He charges by the linear metre, so you are not hiring the whole truck! He is based in Derby
  12. and i am walking around unable to get my neck straight............... saw 3 though. very impressive, even in the orange UK skies
  13. ok so that is what I thought. The deer in the video have antlers, albeit small ones. In the video, one looks very fragile.
  14. Cathy, after how many glasses of wine?
  15. Hi, OK this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQWyfUW6AKE This is a small part of the video footage taken last week in the field behind our house near Lectoure, Gers. Appologies that the first 20 seconds is of the ground, because as I approached the deer behind the bushes and could hear them, but not see them. Chris.... perhaps you can reveal their sex? Giles
  16. I always seem to be appologising on this forum! Sorry Clair, I hadn't read your Free light show post...............................
  17. Cathy I was having problems with french (orange livebox),  broadband until I got bored. I decided to buy a wireless router and took the LAN line from livebox to the router rather than direct to my PC/laptop(Belkin in this case although I prefer netgear), and I attach to the internet via the Belkin WIFI. Don't ask me why this has proven more stable, but it has, and I don't seem to have any connection issues any more. Tech geeks will tell me that I was doing something wrong with the livebox before, but this worked for me. Incedently, I wonder if the issue with teleconnect is that for some reason your router doesn't like it. In England I had the same issue for months, but when I switched from Belkin to Netgear the line dropouts dissapeared and have never resurficed.
  18. Yep, it's the usual Labour policy. Spend spend spend, then borrow and tax, until they are voted out. They had a good run this time, including a pointless war in Iraq to boot.
  19. http://homeboyastronomy.com/2008/08/12/perseids-meteor-shower-tonight-how-to-locate-perseids/ might be worth a look in those French un-polluted night skies
  20. ok well best i get the video going - then you can tell me for sure. Why do female deer rut, and do they have small antlers?
  21. Hi, There was no point taking a photo as everyone would have said rat or mouse. However, think the same, but make the dropping 3 or 4cm long, dark brown/black and same shape, which disintegrated into a fine powder when touched/squashed. It was found on the patio outside our kitchen. Any ideas, all I could think of was a snake? There were only two droppings a few feet apart.
  22. Amazing sight. We watched (and recorded) for a full 5 minutes, two biche stags one sunny evening in the field by the side of our house (Gers). As it seems the wrong time of year, I can only think that this was the case of an old stag being challenged by a younger buck seeing an opportunity. The deer were so engrossed that at one point I was able to film them from just 10/15 metres as they continued to challenge each other. One of them looked in a bit of a sorry state. I will attempt to put footage on something like you tube this week.
  23. I heard that hunting Biche had been suspended for a year next door in 82 or 31, there are signs up in the countryside saying that they have a 'holiday'. I don't know if it is true, and I havnt seen any signs in 32 (Gers). Apparently it was due to over hunting.
  24. Toulon area, particularly on way to St Tropez has some great areas and beaches. Toulon Hyeres airport is great, but you will be relying on Ryanair. However, Marseille isn't too far away should services stop for some reason.
