  1. Hi

In outlook express goto tools/options/maintenance/storage section (somewhere like that!) and find out where they are stored, you could change that location to your usb key (plugged in) or to your mydocs folder and copy and paste them accross to the usb key
probably better to change the location to usb key folder
you will only be able to view them on another machine if you have done the same with that, or you can paste them accross to where they are stored on that machine

This is presuming you are working with Outlook express

  2. I'd go through with the purchase, you might get to like it, if not sell it and while its for sale look for your next one, once there you will find the right house and location.
I always say go with your first instincts, I always change my mind and later wish I had gone with my initial ideas.

Depends if you can afford to lose your 10%, if you can then you might as well pull out but ask about it first, you might not have to pay the full 10% if you give a good reason.

I've also thought of taking the audio output from a Sky box and transmitting it (rather than doing a hardwire connection) to a bog standard radio/hi fi to another location - but am not sure what to use. Can these transmitters, usually used to go from one TV to another, transmit audio in the same way? I presume that all that's needed is for the hi fi to have an audio input of some sort?

Will do the trick but you will need to get other leads, phono to phono instead of phono to scart.

Was fiddleing with the car radio yesterday in Perigueux looking for Radio 4 or worldservice, couldn't find it but did get 5 live (909), virgin (1215) and talksport (1053), not so good driving about but perfect when parked up, wierd how good it felt hearing that J21 on the M62 was bumper to bumper, only 5 mins from us!!

  4. I have a wifi card through the freebox and it works ok, you have to enable it online and setup any passwords etc

What we used to do was use a Netgear wifi router and swap over to the freebox to use the phone, this was before we got a wifi card (available via free.fr site)

Our previous freebox worked great, no speed problems and wifi would have worked better with that box, with this other box its not so good and I often swap over to the netgear router.
27 euros incl postage via the free.fr site, best buying from them than ebay

An article in the Times last Saturday recommended paypal as the best way to transfer m oney to France.

I have a French bank account and sepnd around 10 weeks per year in France. Previous queries here led to me using Moneycorps to transfer money over.

As I already have a paypal account this would seem to be a quick and easy way.

Has anyone used this? Do they recommend it? Is it cheap? How do you do it?

I have a paypal account with my french bank account, for some reason the account will not let me add a UK bank account, maybe this is due to signing up via paypal.com and not co.uk but then could I have had a french bank account within paypal.co.uk
Blimey, i've not even had a drink [blink]

edited to add - recently had £105 paid into paypal account and got 136 euros

  6. After moving house I was waiting for the box to activate, i heard a pop one day and a smell from the box

i cannot make free calls as the box is broken, i am still with FT for the main phone

I made one more attempt this morning, I bought a 2nd hand box at the weekend and have asked them to activate my account in accordance to the freebox i bought, this time i got someone more helpful and they ask me to allow 48 hours for the box to become active.

We will see, if nothing comes of this one then i'm cancelling and going with someone else, even then I bet free still charge me my monthly fee !!!

good to have a spare as well, i have been using my Netgear router in the meantime.

  7. After our freebox refused to work I have been trying to get a new box from these for 3 months and i've had enough

I cannot reccommend anyone else other than FT but DO NOT go with Free

I have tried telephoning them, when i'm lucky enough to get through (you pay whether you get through or not) and get put on hold and if you can speak the lingo you will not get a new box, unbeliveable, our french neighbour had a go and got nowhere, i have been on their online help for 3 hours tonight and still they will not send out a box, what is it with these boxes

    it is beyond belief

i dont get why they will not send a new box

    DO NOT GO WITH THESE?
edited - okay, that was last night after nearly 4 hours trying to get them to sort the problem
all these are probably a nightmare to deal with but maybe there is a chance if you go with FT as they have an english helpline and when i have used that they have been v helpful and not rude at all unlike these shysters

  8. From experience its probably gone to your previous address, find out cos you will incur charges for late payment, didn't know about ours (when we lived in 79) until 2 bills later!
Go to the Tresor Public in Secondigny (if your around there, seem to remember from a previous post) and ask where they have sent it, if it is the other address, change it, then in 2 months go back and change it again, do this until they actually change it.
