In June this year we signed are contacts with are Notaire and returned to England.On arriving home we found the chain we are in has broken and whats worse my buyers have not signed contracts .What will happen if we don't complete on are completion date of  30/09/07 And is it to late to extend are completetion date.      Jules

What is the situation with regard to inheritance tax for the surviving partner of a married couple who jointly own a french property?  Do you have to pay a certain percentage in tax for their property share?  We will be resident permanently in France and have no UK property.  

Next year in spring my friends would like to rent a house in the Agen ,Villeneuve sur-lot, or surrounding area.They would also like to bring there two dogs.Can anybody recommend any Agencies or websites that might be of help. Jules.

We are purchasing a house in France and are hoping to sign the initial contract in early May.  Do we have to state an end date for the final contract to be signed?  As we are selling our property in the UK, this would be difficult to predict Jules

We are purchasing a property in France and have to sign the first contract.  The local notaire has advised it is OK to use a POA from an English solicitor to enable my wife to sign on my behalf.  However the English solicitor is concerned that this might not be acceptable in French law.  Does anyone have any experience of this or know the correct answer?
