We need advice on how to approach the purchase of a property, the costs involved, property and land taxes, any other taxes, charges, heating, electrical, phone, internet and any other likely costs. Labour charges for a competent handyman or what is involved in registering an English tradesmen to carry out works ranging from odd jobs to electrical and gas work. We are looking to purchase a decent sized property around 300m2- 400m2 and costing up to £300,000 with outbuildings and some land for future development. Initially the property would be a holiday home for the family and would also be let out to other families. Would require a character property with all the essential works having been undertaken already. Would require a swimming pool or the space to build one preferably inside. We like the area around Montreuil and would like to be near the sea and close to a large town We have experience of property acquisitions in the UK, but absolutely none in France. There is also the possibility of moving out to France permanently in 5-10 years time when, having sold our main home in England we would move to a much larger property in France with the intention of running a letting or holiday rental business. Is there a site where we could find out about taxation etc if we made France our home or if it would be more advantageous to retain roots in England where we have a decent sized property portfolio.
