  2. Thats what we are going to do.Whats the point of making work for yourself by ripping old ones off.Life is tooooooo short
  3. Just read this and I didnt know it was law now         http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/article-1034564/British-motorists-face-100-fine-failing-wear-fluorescent-vests-driving-France.html

  5. When we were at our house in Limousin the bell rang on the gates and a man stood there in front of his van.It looked all kosha..He said our chimney needed repointing and was shouting and waving his arms as if the chimney was about to fall down.Admittedly once it was pointed out to us the gaps between the bricks were really big.Anyway my hubby being naive opened the gate and let him in.(big mistake although we didnt know it at the time)He said we should get it done because the chimney might fall creating alot of damage. He gave us a good price and said he would be back later that day.Hubby said ok. Later on that day he arrived with two other chaps who went up the ladder to the roof that was 3 stories high. They walked on that roof like it was on the ground, pointed the chimney up and we thought that would be it.But no he knocked  at the door shouting and pointing up to our other chimney. The two chaps on the roof showed us that the pots were not cemented in.As he pulled them away from the base you could tell that one of them was cemented in.When my husband saw this he said it was no good now,and told the man he was not a bank. The man looked abit embarrassed knowing that the little scam had been rumbled. However he put sooo much pressure on us to have it done that we said ok.We knew that had we said no then the chimney pots would have been replaced so they would fall or maybe tiles loosened. We knew we were being "had " but felt obliged to go along with it After they had gone and we had paid up we were so mad at ourselves and vowed not to let any other tradesman through the gate unless he had been invited in.I think this man was a chancer, you get them in England too,i think he just drives around looking for work then when he is in prime position creates some for himself Just because its France one still has to watch out so as not to get done, and it still really hurts if you do.
  6. We have been quoted 400 euro for a days plumbing work. 200 euro no reciepts and not through the books.I think you are being ripped off in the normal world but if it is Paris....who knows.Have you googled replacing taps to see whats involved? It sounds quite straightforward to me but then what do I know?
  7. Funny you should ask that.My son and wife have been staying in our newly aquired holiday home and had planned on going canoeing on lake st pardoux. They just phoned me to say they have been down there 4 times now.Yesterday there was some big event on so all the boats were out and all the other times there was no one about.I thought it was a biggish tourist attraction.I have no idea whats going on,but am a bit wary now of letting the house out saying that the lakes are good for canoeing etc.Do you know whats going on????
  8. They are miseable little so and sos..i will admit, but I have a small amount of sympathy because ................I used to be one

  11. Can anyone reccomend some things to do in the Limousin area(but dont mind travelling for a couple of hours)For a couple of teanagers. They dont fish but love waterparks/theme parks etc.I have searched and can find nothing. Thanks in advance
  12. I was impressed when we bought a fair amount of goods from conforama..washing machine fridge freezer tv etc. They charged only 10 euro for delivery and when they delivered they bought all the goods in with no packaging for us to worry about.Put the washing machine and freezer in place then set the washing machine up,and it was ready just to switch on.Great service!
  13. It covered everything. They picked the load up on Monday morning then drove it down.We flew down to Limoges next day and by the time we got to the house at 4 o clock they were outside waiting to unload and had been there since 2.30.They unloaded in the pouring rain then carried on to Italy to pick another load up and bring it back to uk.We priced it all up doing it ourselves and hiring the van and petrol would have  been close on a thousand pound so we decided to let them do it for us at  that price.
  14. so did you put double layers where neccasary to take up the levels?
  15. Hello,we need to cover our floorboards on the upstairs landing with laminate flooring. The problem we have is that the boards go vertical down the hallway and then where the wall has been knocked through the boards go horizontal across the hallway. From the begginning to the end there is an uneveness.A builder friend said to take up the difference with the thick underlay.I think he meant adding more layers in the lower areas to take up the level.I have been looking on the net and it says to put hardboard over boards first.I need some advise. One thing do they sell hardboard in France?I cant say that I have noticed it and how do we go about getting this floor suitable to lay the laminate on it? If theres anyone on here who can help with advise I would really appreciate it.I can post a photo if it might give more of an idea whats what but i dont think the levels will show on it Thanks in advance
  16. We have just moved a vanful of stuff from worcestershire to haute vienne. It was a luton van I think and they were so good at filling every space of it.It was al waiting with no breakages the very next day. They also do smaller loads if they can fit it in with another load.I will give you the name and number if you want,They charged us £1200. We worked out that it wouldnt have worked out much cheaper had we hired a van and taken it over ourselves
  17. Thanks for that I shall bear this in mind

  23. Thanks for that.I mean just the ordinary size pillows that come with any duvet set  in England. Not the square ones that are generally on sale in France.
