  1. Hi all, Currently buying a project nr Roscoff and will be asking for advice in a number of aspects. This project is my second. The first was in St Michel en Greve where new kitchen, bathrooms and electrics were relatively straight forward ish! Mind you painting 8+ metres up was scary (full fall arrest safety gear and scaffolding mind!) For this next project I am planning to re-tile (roof) a house plus annex in Feb. Current roof has multiple patches, has different slates front and back and currently leaks! I am planning to use slate and would be keen to see if anyone can point me to any building merchants in the Morlaix to Roscoff area who supply this.  I am aware that there are different origins of slate and would discuss this at point of purchase. However as always I would be very interested in anyone who could provide advice. Many thanks
  2. Thanks guys I will get hold of EDF initially to see what next. Thanks very much for your comments.
  3. I have just received the electrical expert report regarding a house I am buying nr Roscoff. There is a requirement to improve the earth bonding and basically overhaul the whole electrical system internally. The electric is currently switched off (probably for last  6 months at least). I need to install a new main board but would like to do the main electrical runs (lights/power etc) myself. House is a bit of a shell and I will be taking my time! The main circuit breaker board looks ok and modern but I would need to seek some guidance on this.Certainly before the mains is switched back on. In Uk you are unable to touch bascially anything electrical anymore. I rewired my house in Brittany (St Michel en Greve) 3 years ago but the main board was ok then. Can anyone advise what the current position is? Also not sure whether I can do this.................. but anyone in the Roscoff area able to advise locally and suggest where I should look (phone number or e-mail address would be good)! Thanks in anticipation
  4. I recently bought a home in Brittany and am preparing (with some help) to spend two weeks at Easter trying to cram in as much DIY as possible! Key projects are refitting a new kitchen and bathroom. Key questions I would really appreciate guidance on are 1. We are taking an LPG cooker (house has a very large primagaz monster bottle - about 6 years old). The cooker has a 1/2 inch screw fitting but I am not sure what french connection is needed. I assume that given that the UK fitting is 1/2 inch thread that a suitable pipe/connection will be difficult to find. I assume a gas fitter could make one up? 2. Are the plumming/copper pipes same in france as uk? I was planning to take across some 15mm and 22mm pipe plus speedfittings. Will these work? 3. I am taking 40mm pushpipe fittings for sinks etc  - are they compatable in France. 4. Regarding the pipes and connection above - are they really cheaper in uk or should I buy in France? Thanks   4. Soil pipes - same as UK/
  5. I was planning to take some 22mm and 15mm copper pipe and speedfit fittings to put in a new bathroom and refit kitchen. Do you suggest that the plumming is not compatable with this?  Is it as cheap and safer to buy in frnace. Cheers
