1. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong web page but I can't see any note saying an update is due in August

I don't expect everyone to phone. I was replying to Norman's request.

You have until 15th September to claim if you want a payment this year

I'm sure someone will put me straight if I'm wrong

2. Norman

Here's the link for the claim form plus notes

http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@over50/documents/digitalasset/dg_180315.pdf

Helpline number is 0191 2187777, Give them a ring and they will send you a claim form pack

BaF,

Whats with you and horses, Mind you, you are a nightmare sometimes ( get it, mare )
3. I think we have flogged this one to death now.

One last thing, I hope,

If you have applied before and been knocked back because of the ordinarily resident issue your claim will not be reopened and you need to reapply. Thats from a very nice lady on the UK Pensions Helpline.

4.
the idea that the reason the ruling was changed is because someone arriving in the UK from some far flung place would qualify needs questioning.......how would they? Indeed given that the Uk is pretty difficult to get into from some far flung places, just how does that work ?
It works because the only two criteria to qualify are being over 60 by the second week in September and being ordinarily resident in the UK

If say, a parent of a person who's settled in the UK decides to move over to join their family and declare that they intend to stay they will qualify for WFA. IMHO a third criteria should have been that they must be able to qualify to receive an OAP.

5. After getting completely lost I've finally got a Tomtom 20 SatNav, while in the UK

When I fired it up and connected it to the Tomtom website for the first time it had the entire French Radar Database removed saying it was  now mandatory.

Not sure how I'm going to explain that if I get stopped !

The website said a "danger spot" database would be available soon to download.

The display on the Tomtom allows you to mark any danger spots you come across on your travels and these will form part of that download

I did my bit by marking about 10 places I felt were "danger spots" on the way back from the ferry.
6. BF, The horse that I spoke to said I would not get it because I was "not ordinarily resident in the UK" so there's still confusion over it

The reason the judgement went in favour of ex-pats was, I think in part, that if a person over 60 years old arrives from a far off land to live in the UK on the 1st September they are immediately entitled to WFA despite never paying taxes ...........etc, whereas a Brit just under 60, moving to live in the EU before September would never be entitled , despite having paid ..................... etc

7. This is the tortoise after she laid the eggs, the first bit of video showing laying did not record

8. I have a mature female tortoise that needs a mate

She's a Testudo hermanni hercegovinensis and has just laid 3 eggs in the garden

We've had her for quite a few years so we know they will not hatch because they have not been fertilised.

It took her over an hour to bury the eggs and it seems such a shame that it was all in vain

We would be willing to drive any distance really to have her mated.

Can anyone help
9. Yes thats right, Chancer

While I was waiting for the letter to be delivered I looked at the address on Google Earth and went down to street level.

It put me outside a Pizza Take Away next to a Coffe Shop / Bar so the address on the cheque was obviously wrong.

Unless he works out of one of these

If I ever get to find out who or what he was I'll post what I find out

10. I see so many posts where there's no final response to the question.

Hopefully ! I have reached the end of this problem so I'll bring this one up to date

I sent a letter by "Recommande avec avis de reception" to the address on the cheque and have now 3 weeks later have had it returned undelivered with the necessary note attached.

The letter was approved by the Legal Team from my house content insurance company ( didn't find out about this until I asked my neighbour )

I'm told I can sell the car without reproach

Lets hope so, I might never know what happened to the buyer

Thanks to everyone that contributed

11. Yes, the link provided by Nomoss is very interesting

I hadn't seen it before I made my earlier comments.

I was going off my memory ( whats left of it ) of the early plans to have iconic people from Europe's history on one side and artistic line drawings of famous landmarks on the back.

Maybe they couldn't find enough iconic people who had no "previous"
12. The English Guy I used quoted 160 euro in his estimate for a Qualigaz Engineer to inspect his work on completion

The Engineer was here about 3 hours and checked everything from the tank to the boiler. He insisted on a few things being done, waited for it to be done and then signed if off. He does not inspect the water side of the boiler

I'm reliably told, by others on this Forum, that the gas supplier can refuse a delivery if you cannot produce the certificate.

13. Yes, I agree with Norman and Chancer on this, but can I just add that because the adhesive will be sitting on a mostly non-porous surface it will take a lot longer to dry so leave the grouting for a while to allow the adhesive to breath. Same applies to avoid walking on the tiles while it sets

I find the spacers that can be left in and buried under the grout help to reduce any movement

Good luck. John

14. The good thing about using thermostatic shower mixers here is that they are fed by hot and cold water at the same pressure so they should work perfectly.

Our's never moves away from the temperature setting we use even when my OH decides to put the washer on or run the tap while I'm in the shower

IMO I would say its the unit thats faulty

15. Thanks for your comments Jonzjob,

My original idea was a coffee table, leaving the edge on, but as it dried it bowed across the width.

It would take forever to sand out the hump out and I can't have a table were the glasses fall over

I can do that without the any help from the table

If I could pass it under a Thickener, if that is what its called, that would work but I've only seen DIY ones that take timber about 8 inches wide

Cutting it into narrow pieces will reduce the need to sand out the humps

16. Thanks Just John,

Just the sort of thing I was looking for.

I did look on the internet but did not see that website

I'm going to try making it, using the walnut for the arms, seat, back rest and the leg braces.

The rest I will do in oak.and if it looks wrong I'll paint the oak parts.

I'll get the saw mill to rough cut the stock sizes and let it dry out until the end of summer

The reason I asked about finishing the walnut is does it leach out colour when its damp

Cheers John

17. I've been give given a couple of  slices of the truck of a walnut tree.

They are about 3 inches thick, 2ft wide edged with bark, mostly parallel and about 6 ft long

They've been cut at a saw mill and been stored inside for about 3 years

There's a bit of bow across the width but very few cracks

Can I use this wood for a garden bench without varnishing it and does anyone have a design I can copy.

Something not too modern but not rustic

If I need to use other wood, what wood would match

Thanks for any help

18. I spoke to my neighbours about this problem and were advised to get back onto the bank.

Its all about asking the right question. Can I have a photostat copy of a cheque that I paid in?

"Yes, it will be in the post tonight."

What also came out of the conversation was

Allow at least 10 working days for a cheque to clear after it lands in your account.

Don't take a cheque off anyone unless you get ID

Don't involve the police in such things.

Check your house content insurance for legal assistance cover

19. My Bank, CA Centre France,  said "its illegal to give you any details of the person that gave you the cheque, you are advised to speak to the police"  Can't I just have the address or Postcode "NO"

I'm going to ask a good neighbour, a Frenchman who speaks good english to go with me. On my own and with my luck in this I would end up getting locked up.

I'll have a record of reporting it to them so it would help if challenged by the OP after I sell it
