1. Thanks Andy, I can normally get to the tunnel with a tank full but I don't like getting in the train on a near empty tank. I will refer to the website just before I set off Thanks John
2. We are driving up to the Tunnel on Sunday from the Creuse via the A20, A10, A1 Anyone got comments on availability of Diesel on route Regards John
3. You will be pleased to know the Blue 2042K Form has not changed, just a little bit darker blue! JB
4. From the work that I had done on the supply to my cooker was, All joints have to be done in silver solder not plain solder, obviously no compression joints. There are two on/off taps, one next to the bottle, one just before the appliance The holes in the wall were lined with plastic pipe and the copper pipe had its own protective covering. The ends of the plastic pipe were sealed with silicon mastic where the copper pipe appears The installation was inspected by Quali-gaz and I was given a written report to keep on file. Hope that helps
5. Thanks for all your help. Managed to cancel it on-line Got email confirming its cancelled and they are refunding the fee. GREAT RESULT. Still think they are underhand the way they offer it with a single "click" Thanks again to everyone John
6. I noticed a payment from my CA account to Amazon.fr for 41 euro and the bank said it could not be rejected , cancelled or challenged I must of clicked on the wrong button by mistake when I ordered something a while ago on Amazon and apparently I'm signed up to Premium,  whatever that is ? I did not sign up to anything deliberately It does not seem to give me free delivery because I've ordered things since and I've paid delivery charges My Bank said Amazon are doing this all the time now and I'm one of many to complain How do I cancel it for next year because the Bank said it would just keep being taken annually Thanks for any help,  John
7. Thanks for all the replies. They have been very helpful. I will start by asking my Bank about a card for my Son and take it from there. If it gets a bit awkward I'll back off I can trust both my kids so there's no problem with that. I was more concerned if I rely on them and there's some sort of spot check, but I have never heard of such a thing happening Parkinson's under control ATM Norman thanks, but I get bad hours, sometimes only bad minutes so I'm not complaining. Thanks, John
8. If you are not able to get about anymore and are virtually housebound, what would be the attitude of the Bank's in France and the UK  be if they found out you were letting a son or daughter use your ATM card to draw money out for you The reason I ask is, I thought I might be opening a can of worms if I mentioned this to them at some point John
9. We have just returned  ( last week ) from the UK using the tunnel and they are not interested in anything to do with your dog other than charging you to take it. The dogs exercise area on the UK side is a joke, so keep it well away from that. Its a small sand pit full of dog poo. Have a safe trip and a happy christmas John
10. I agree with Gardian IMO Most French seem to to think...  Don't ask the question, you might not like the answer I see "rules" being broken every day Just get on with the finishing touches to your new house and enjoy it
11. Thank you nectarine, Hugs back
12. Thanks for all your kind support and for the details Norman Its the obvious phyical signs of the uncontrolled shaking that reminds you that you have it and that gets under your skin I've started on medication but its not kicked in yet, at least with the shaking I'll post how I get on Thanks again John
13. I've just been diagnosed with Parkinson's It's at the early stages but the tremors are getting worse quickly even from week to week Not sure where this is going but it is what it is ! Any help or advice would be welcome John
14. Thanks Wooly I've emailed the maker of the tester ( Lifescan )and they've attached the pdf  English manual to their reply I've now decovered that the menu lets you change from mg/dL to mmol and to English Tabs but I'll check with my French Doctor first to see if he will accept 2 months of readings in mg/dL. I need the safe parameters in mg/dL if I'm going to keep it as it came btw This is, in a way, to rule out diabetes as a cause of my symtoms Thanks JB
15. My doctor has prescribed a Diabetes Tester to monitor my glycemique levels for the next 2 months. Both my parents developed Type 2 later in life ( both 89 ) so it will be no surprise if it happens to me eventually I've started this morning The readings are displayed differently in France ( I hope ) or is it just that the decimal point is not used here Anyone know what are the "normal" readings should be, or the range thats OK Thanks JB
16. Thanks Pierre ZFP, It does seem a better way of doing it and like you it's only for transformers for 2 phones ( Internet & landline ) a tablet charger and a LE table light I'll pick one up next time I'm in the UK. Maybe invest in a voltage surge protection one as its left on 24/7
17. Which is better, ATM I have a  French 4 gang extension lead hidden behind a unit with 3 UK 3 pin transformers plugged in with adapters (cordless phones etc ) and a single french plug. Would it be safer to have a 4 gang English extension lead fitted with a French Plug ( doing away with the need for the adapters )and an English 3 pin plug on the single connection I only ask because the adapters have printed on them that they are for limited use only JB
18. Chancer, you put me in mind of the guy in "Flight of the Phoenix" who built the plane they escaped in. Only your's would have been better![:)] Keep coming up with solutions to our problems. JB
19. Hi sorry about the delay in replying Somehow the settings for edit were changed, Please open this link, go to file and download the spreadsheet and open with Excel 2007 or higher https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B02Cx1IXK4Eqa2hhMmhJakg0M1E/edit?usp=sharing I've added a sheet for Social Charges. Please tell me if its right John
20. I've protected the sheet so the formula's will not appear I'll PM you the password so you can unlock the sheet and check the working out, NormanH thanks JB
21.
Thank you for publishing your spreadsheet. Two things I can't reconcile. Do you apply the decote before or after the rebate due on double taxation treaty? and what is the calculation? How do you arrive at the social charges figure. It's about three times my figure!
I trust the opinion of Parsnips when it comes to matters of Taxation and "I think" he says it should by applied after the rebate due on double taxation is taken off. I'll have another look at the social charges figure tomorrow when I've not had so much wine to drink! JB
22. Sorry, fixed it now Please use the new link https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B02Cx1IXK4Eqa2hhMmhJakg0M1E/edit?usp=sharing
23. Thanks mazandcol, I'll check it out and let you know when I've sorted it
24. Here's the updated 2013 Tax Year Spreadsheet to estimate your tax bill I've been waiting on the Low Income Threshold Allowances to be published, which they have now been https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B02Cx1IXK4EqSzZLc0IwT29hVE0/edit?usp=sharing JB
25. Search YouTube for Partition walls/ metal frame work You can pick up some useful ideas, although they show ideal conditions to work in My tips would be invest in a set of Aircraft Fitter's Tin Snips for cutting steel work, makes easy work of it BQ do a set of 3, LH, RH and Straight for about £28.00 and get the adapter for your drill/driver that holds the screw while you drive it in Best of luck JB
