  1. This Lomax car is advertised on Le bon coin and is based on a Citroen 2cv chassis therefore it has a valid CT. Even the Lomax three wheeler is so based on the 2CV for the same reason. This is now where the problem lies as I assume the B-B doesn't utilise a VW chassis, if it did then there would be no real problem as it would be using all the VW running gear with the buggy body attached.

  2. You may think that this is a little wicked but. I’m getting so fed up people allowing their dogs to defecate right outside the front and side of my house. On several occasions I only have to put my foot outside to find that I have some dog muck right outside the door and at the side of the house it’s like a toilet. I feel that the only way to stop this is with an ultra sonic deterrent? Can anyone advise, it’s not that I don’t like dogs far from it, it’s the owners who let them do it. I think this is mainly down to people who park overnight in camper vans. Most of the locals carry bags with them.
  3. Getting back on track.

Lomax is a kit car, both three and four wheel versions and there are quite a few of both of these models on French plates and some even owned by French people. I therefore assume that it this buggy has all the relevant paperwork, it shouldn’t have any problem in registering the Buggy.
  4. Last September I was approached by a member of the local urbanism committee with a strange request. This was a request to use these steps at the side of my house during the fete just to entertain the young children, basically someone was going to hide behind them then jump out and scare the hell out of the kiddies.

I asked why I was being asked if these steps belong to the commune? I was told by this young lady that the request came from the mayor and he had also asked this same lady to investigate this situation, as they the council were unclear about the position of ownership of these steps.

As I have a copy of the deeds I loaned this copy to this young woman then last December I gave her a call to ask how things were preceding. For me it certainly was good news, it appears that because these steps have been attached to this house for longer than a thirty year period, in fact they have been there since the early 1900s so there is no question of who own them as they belong to the householder. So all I need to do now is obtain the relevant permission to safely restore them and will then be able to use them once again.

  5. I too received a demand for the taxe d’habitation several months ago, even though for the last ten years I had been registered as being handicapped. I did put this down to the rise in the exchange rates and therefore exceeded the tax threshold.

Then last week I received another letter stating that my taxe d’habitation would be repaid directly back into my bank account within weeks which as you can imagine, I was very pleased about..

  6. I find it strange that I suddenly have to start paying the Tax d'Habitation and TV licence again. As a 69 year old male with a chronic illness I had for many years been exempt. Now I find that I’m no longer exempt, as I have received an Avis d’Impots for the above, would this be because of the rise in my income due to the exchange rates?
  7. Well I must agree with what you all have said. Cdiscount sell for third parties and I too have now stopped using them. They simply take your order, take their cut then pass on the order to the supplier. Unlike Amazon never give a delivery date, I waited two weeks for one item I bought.

The idea from both mint and ventodue re a ferronnier, I did briefly think of this then thought why should I, but then thinking about it logically, it is the cheaper option and a sound lesson to avoid cdiscount like the plague. It just so happens there is an English guy in the next village who makes excellent pieces of wrought iron metal work for whatever you require. So I shall be send him an email latter this morning.

  8. What are the French rules / regulations for buying faulty goods?

The reason I ask is that I bought a pair of fauteuils de relaxation et de massage from Cdiscount at the end of January. Now the base of 1 has broken from its base plate mounting where it was welded making the chair unstable. As these chairs have only been in my possession for seven months would I be entitled to some form of redress from the suplyer?

  9. I have just had a visit from an Orange Engineer and again the fault is once again the out side wiring into the house.

The engineer then told me that my problems would continue because the cable into the house requires renewing, he could not do this because Orange will not allow the engineers to drill through a wooden or UPVC door or window-frame, instead they are required to feed the cable through the WALL, all 70cms of it.

Fortunately the door in question is shortly going to be replaced with a 1 metre high wall and a window so that will mean a concrete block wall of lesser proportions to the main wall. Only then will they then come and renew the outside cabling.

This has been the same problem that I have had all the time, the fault has never been inside the house and only now am I being told the reason for this problem, that makes me even angrier, the fact that they knew and didn’t say is unbelievable.

I think this is a good enough a reason to terminate my contract but get the wiring replaced first.

  10. I have been with orange for ten years and have never been happy with them because the first thing to go wrong was their live box, it was rubbish. When I had problems with the line it wasn’t their fault it was mine. I lost a month of no internet or phone until they repaired the fault which was theirs and not mine. Now the same has happened, three weeks without a phone.

So I’m thinking of changing supplier from orange to sfr.

What are the likely pit falls?

  11. Firstly, My apolgies go to Quillin, I did have to send an IBAN and I do have the 4.99€ set up, does this then mean that whatever I use is then debited monthly from my bank account which would then make things a lot easier for me.

Secondly, I shall not be sending the termination letter until I have organised a box from SFR.

As I was without a phone until today, I did ask a friend to phone but the feed back from Orange was a complete waste of time because all the woman at Orange was on about was the same ol same ol, “have you checked the live-box for this and that”.

What really annoys me is because these people at the shop in Parthenay refused to exchange this box,I’m still stuck with it, paying for the privilege of its use or lack of, up to now that has cost me an extra 348€ in ten years.

  12. Hi call me Betty.

You are spot on, I had an Orange live box originally back in 2005 This was my first mistake as these Orange live-boxes were rubbish as I was forever loosing the internet connection. I did try to return it to the shop from whence it came but they refused to accept it without even looking at it

My only alternative was to get a Net gear modem /router. Which is still working even now. Doesn’t say much for the live-box.

Now for the last three weeks I originally lost both internet and phone which occurred after a storm, fortunately the internet returned after two days but still no phone .

This is why I bought this mobile which is already on SFR. I do now have it completely active thanks for your help.

This is why I shall be sending a letter of termination to Orange by Lettre Recommandée avec Accusé de Reception.

  13. At the age of 68+ I got myself a mobile phone, mainly because Orange is absolutely bl**dy useless, so after ten years of putting up with them, I now intend to send a letter of termination of my contract.

Back to the phone, I purchased a card from SFR and managed to activate the card but the next step is a bit of an unknown quantity as I need to deposit monies to use the phone. What is the procedure for doing this? Any tips appreciated.

  14. The house that I bought was actually two houses knocked into one, the front of the house is on the main square while the second part is at the rear and facing the road next to the public footpath. The problem that I have is with the set of granite steps that are the access for this second house. This access consists of a pair of doors which is an ideal second access for me.

The problem I have is that there are cracks that have appeared in some of the granite blocks which form both the balcony area and the steps, these are big blocks of 1.45 mtr L x45cms W x.26cms D. This has caused a significant bulge in the side of approx. 3-5 cms. There is also a visible split along the majority of the length of the upper surface of approx. 2cms. This is causing some concern as they are situated next to the footpath. The copy of the deeds was obtained but gives no mention of these steps, so consulted the authorities who claim that these steps belong to the commune which I find difficult to believe. They were then asked if they could repair these steps because of the potential damage that could be caused, they claimed they couldn’t afford to do this, but did offer to demolish them. I refused because they are used as a second means of access through these double doors.

The next step was an offer from me to have the work carried out and paid for by myself, they didn’t refuse that offer and agreed for me to carry out the work. At the moment I’m having some other work carried out and when finished will apply for a permission to do the work on these steps. Now my question is, when I get the permission to renovate these steps, would I then able to claim ownership? If I have paid a price of several thousands to make them safe then surely I’m entitled to the ownership of these steps.
