  1. I have been with SFR now for 4.5 years (on and off), and I agree the customer service isn't great over the phone but in the local store they are great. Unforunately they are my only choice as Orange and BT have no coverage at my place and we have a 24/7 business.
  2. Hi All. Been a long time since I have visited!! I have just changed my phone over to a PRO plan with SFR. http://goo.gl/K2MDV It includes 100mb of data outside of France. Now my questions is, I am currently on the day packs (5€) when outside of France, how does this work if you get 100mb included. Will they charge for the day packs and then credit me if under the 100mb? I've searched their website up and down but can't find any further information. By default they put you on the daily data packs. It's a Blackberry if that makes any difference. Thought I would see if anyone else is on the same plan that could advise of how it works. Any help, advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Matt
  3. Hi All, Quick question. I was wondering if anyone knows what codes to use for "Call Divert on Busy" with French Telecom? Basically we have 2 phones in the house and would like to divert the main one to the secondary line if the main line is busy. I know how to divert all calls and for a period via the France Telecom website but I can't find any information for Call Divert on Busy or Call Transfer as FT call it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance, Matt
  4. We have been asked if we would like to take a winter lease on a catered chalet and are researching heavily as although we are in the chalet business, we don't currently lease or run any. What sort of licence is required to operate as a 8 bedroom catered chalet with 2 self catered apartments? Who needs to be notified? Thanks for your help :) Matt
  5. I have been told they vary between depts as well :) I have also been told it varies between towns where I am :)
  6. Thanks heaps for the quick replies. Much appreciated. I've heard that water where I am (Seytroux dept 74) is reasonably cheap. So hopefully it is. No idea what expensive is though *laughs*. I was panicking a wee bit there. Does sewerage get charged seperately?
  7. Hi All :) I know this may seem like a really daft question but about how much does a cubic metre of water cost in France. I undestand it probably varies depending on dept and area. I have just moved out here and haven't had a water bill yet (so unsure how much water actually costs) but have purchased a hot tub and curious to know what I should expect. I've been living in Edinburgh, so we don't have a metre, so have no idea what my usage is. If anyone could give me a rough guide for France it would be great :) Thanks in advance, Matt
  8. Hi All :) We have 2 live in chalet staff positions available in Essert Romand (near Morzine, Dept 74) for the 2007/2008 winter season. The chalet has 21 catered beds + 2 self catered apartments. We would prefer a mature couple with experience in running a chalet. Would be required to start in December. We are also looking for a chef for a small restaraunt in St Jean d'Aulps (Dept 74). Accommodation will be provided for the right person. Experience essential. For more information, please feel free to pm me. Matt
  9. Just not my thing. Easy if you know what you are doing but I have no idea and really don't have the time at the moment.
  10. Hi All :) I need a small window made (approx 300x500)  in the Morzine area (dept 74). It would need to be done in the next 3 or 4 weeks. If anyone could point me in the direction of someone that could possibly do this or can do this please feel free to pm me and we can talk about cost etc etc. I hope I have posted this is the right section, if not please feel free to remove it.    Thanks in advance, Matt
  11. Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated :) Will try that. I wonder if there is a way to get it texted to the phone :/
  12. Hello :) I am in dept 74 and have been using Orange Prepaid Mobile for the past few months. However, where I am moving too the only converage is with SFR. On my old Orange sim card I used to type in hash123hash (can't find the hash key on this keyboard) to get my available credit. Is there a similar function with SFR? Thanks in advance for your help :) It's much appreciated :) Matt
  13. Thank you. He has had the blood test for exactly that reason.
  14. Hello :) Sorry to hi-jack the thread but it is related. Are the requirements above the same for a cat? I leave on Saturday and are just checking everything is in order. Boyd has a pet passport, rabies jab was done in April and he is not re-entering the UK. We are going across on the train. Are there any other requirements apart from rabies jab and passport for entry into France? I'm getting nervous about it and just wanted to check again. Cheers, Matt
  15. Hi All :) In the next 4-6 weeks we plan on taking our cat out to France. I have a question though. Our closest airport is actually Geneva, so we would ideally like to fly the cat to Geneva and then drive the 1 hour back to where we live. Once we get the cat (Boyd) into Suisse, will we encounter any problems taking him across the border in to France by car? Are we allowed to do this? Or... are we better taking having him flown to Lyon which is about 2.5 hours away. Actually looking at that, I wonder if I will still end up going through Switzerland anyway. I assume taking animals across the Suisse and French borders must happen all the time by car. Any advice would be appreciated :) I just want to get the wee man out there as quickly and as safely as possible :) Matt
  16. Thank you for reassuring my paranoia :) I was told today not to put an ¨s¨ on the end of the euro *laughs*. I trust this source more though, so will.
  17. Hrm. Might be trying to get that changed then. Not that I plan on dying soon. I just want to make 100% sure I am doing this correctly. My first cheque is for 1700e, do I just put ¨Mille sept cents euro¨? The second is for 7000e, so do I just put ¨sept mille euro¨? Although I have been learning French for a while, I have never really had to put it to a practical use and are now starting to doubt it.
  18. Thank you so much for the quick reply. Very much appreciated. That's what I thought. We have ¨et¨ on it, so we both have to sign. Out of curiousity, if we use a cheque in a shop to buy something, do we both have to be present or can one party sign the cheque before hand and the person present sign it when we pay? What a nightmare. We purchased an old barn last month and are now having to start to pay for things and the language barrier is proving interesting *laughs*. We have both been learning French for some time but it still makes the more formal/legal stuff interesting. Thanks again for your help :)
  19. Hi All :) Just a quick question. I am about to write my first french cheque. I know where everything goes but the cheque will be drawn from a joint account and I have no idea if it needs to be signed by both parties or just one. I remember reading somewhere how you can tell but can't find it for the life of me and have to get this cheque out this morning. Can anyone help? Thank you, Matt
  20. Righto... That's what I thought you may say. We are flying out a couple of days before we sign. If we go and see the notaire on the Wednesday and find out it's not ok, would it be possible for CA to issue a policy/cover note before the Friday afternoon or do these things take time?
  21. Hi All :) We are completing on our property soon (25th May). We were advised that we will need to provide proof of building insurance to the notaire (I'm assuming this is actually for the bank). The notaire also advised that we should get the building insuranced through the same company as our neighbour/seller (it's half a barn we are buying) in case the building burns down or anything bad happens (it will make claiming easier if it's with one company apparently). We have spoken to our neighbour and he said that as he currently insures the whole building (and we are buying the other half off him), he will bring his insurance paper work to the notaires when we sign the acte. Then we can sort out our portion and get a policy in our name soon after. Now, I am not feeling overly easy about this, not because of our neighbour (as we have known him for years and is a friend) but will the notaire accept his insurance policy for the whole building? Our new neighbour is away on holiday till the 24th, so I am unsure who he insures the building with and therefore cannot get a policy in place with his company. I really don't want any hassles on the Friday as we are flying out to Oz a couple of days later. I am now wondering if I should just contact my bank in France and get them to issue a policy and then cancel the policy if it happens to be with a different company? I really don't know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Matt
  22. Oh no. I'm pleased I read this. My wee kitten is off for his rabies injection in a week and a half. At least I know what to expect now :( Poor kitten :(
  23. I have sent you a pm :)

    Puppy to France

It's Dept 74. We plan on getting the 2 dogs, 12 months apart. This is what we have done in the past and has always worked very well. I'll look for a breeder in our area. I'm not really sure how much luck I will have.

    Puppy to France

I will contact our local vet and find out about the minimum age. We are actually after 2 x labradoodles. If we can find a breeder close by, would definately think about getting them out there. Matt
