  1. My wife and I had intended to emigrate to France this summer but first bereavement and now uncertainty caused by recent publicity about rights to heatlth care and other reforms may delay us moving 'officially'. My wife is relatively fluent in French and has no real ties to England and would like to become a French citizen. We have yet to do the basic research as this is a fairly new option. Any guidance on process and pitfalls would be gratefully received.
  2.     Thank you. It's a bit disappointing as french tax plus health charges would have been about the same as UK tax. Now however I have to pay UK tax plus french health. Still I guess the government wants some its money back! Many thanks again.
  3.     Thankyou for your superbly comprehensive reply. I am much obliged to you and all who replied. best wishes.
  4.     Greetings. I have read with interest posts on registering vehicles in France but haven't yet resolved my problem. If anyone has experience of it I would be most grateful for tips and pointers. I bought a motorhome three years ago knowing I would probably retire to Europe though not at that time certain of which country. I am now retiring to France in June. I thought I was sensible and planning for the future by buying a German base (Mercedes) with an Italian conversion (Rimor) in european spec throughout (i.e. LHD, european electrics in cabin etc). However, neither the english importers nor the italian suppliers can provide a certificate of european conformity (although they do now for new vehicles). Having heard how difficult it can be to negotiate French bureaucracy I am now wondering whether to sell it here. The problem of course is that I will take a bath financially because of those very same 'european' features. Any help or advice gratefully received.
  5.     Hello. I am new to this forum and am very grateful for much information garnered already. I have tried to look throught the back pages to see if my question has been answered and I crave your indulgence, and a pointer, if it has. We are both in our fifties and are moving to live permanently in France in June this year. I had always assumed I would pay all taxes and charges there. However, I discover that as I am in receipt of a government pension it will be taxed in the UK. I am now unclear as to my status regarding health care charges and social charges. I am not entitled to an E106 as I retired more than two years ago and, as I understand it, will not be entitled to cover under EHIC once I declare residency in France. I am a little concerned as health cover will be withdrawn in the UK (despite my paying taxes!). Any help would be gratefully received.
