2. Hi Plod, any particular reason to stay away from Aveyron??
3. I know this is a very old post but ,,,, i have been to Spain and i want France back,, i miss it, i miss the people, i miss yves at Taxo les Pins, i miss the mountains, i miss everything that is French. i know there was a lot of missunderstanding about who i was, i am not the other person, i am "THE FRANC O FILE" i want to be in France, but i need a means to live there, i have a partner and 2 children  I am, CORGI registered and have many other quals. can somebody tell me what i need to do  to survive in France
4. i am a corgi registered gas installer in Blighty,  i am interested in moving to France, forever, what do i need to know about "coming over and making a living in France" This may seem like a straightforward question, but i'm sure the answer is not   I am not the franc o file you all hate, honest
5. are there any plans to introduce a smoking ban in France?  if so what format will it take? Do you think anyone adhere to it??
6. Thank you, both for your replies, hopefully, should be coming down to Argeles in the summer (really miss it and the people) used to love the orange tree just as you come out of the car park by the train station and "Chez Max" at St Andre. The first place i stayed in France was a little campsite at Canet Plage, it had a huge effect on my life, used to love walking the length of the beach from the port right the way up and back. St Cyp was beautiful, the whole area, the view of the Pyrenees, we even drove up to Andorra a few times (what a trek, what a road!) Really looking forward to coming back to look around  Can still remember apartments for sale at Canet Plage for £ 11,000
7.
Night Bless both and good luck Franc o (BTW -I'm Welsh too[:)])
The best people are  [:D] do you think the Welsh have a greater affinity with the French because of our Celtic ancestry? night all
8. just because your female doesn't mean you can't have a female OH[:)] (and no, i'm Male and my OH is Female) how would things have worked differently?  elaborate please(dish the.. no)
9. Hi Twinkle, i refer the honourable gentleman to the answer i gave some moments ago[:D]
10. That sounds great, Chez,   I have no personal interest in Toulouse but just wondered if the situation was true and if so, is it indicative of being a foreinger in France? Tresco, you capitulator, you.  do you regret letting your OH get her own way?
11. Hi Tresco, I can imagine why anyone, French or otherwise, would thinks Brits stupid, have you ever been on a campsite with Eurocamp, Eurosites and all the other ops with several hundred British kids? I have held my head in shame on occasions, fortunetely not been on that kind of holiday for several years. We bought a static caravan from a very British site in Argeles sur Mer several years ago and had the option of siting it there......... not happening, we paid extra to have it towed up the road to a French site, afterall, we were in France, we didn't want to feel that we were in "little Britain"
12. Hi, Does anyone live any where near Argeles sur Mer?  if so can you tell me how much it's changed in the last 5 years or so. Used to have a "mobile home" at Argeles and loved the area very much. Would like to sell up in the UK and move over to France but I've got to convince the OH it's the right thing to do.
13. Hi Twinkle, I've been working in Brum so had no internet access ( Ron didn't scare me off) What i was alluding to in my original post, was that a friend of mine has just taken redundancy from the aerospace industry but was offered a contract in Toulouse, he decided to retrain and have a complete career change (like myself, we met at college) He has heard from a lot of his previous colleagues that the French in Toulouse are very "annoyed" at the influx of Brits in the area, pushing up the house prices, taking all the jobs etc, although, he did say the only reason so many Brits have gone over there is because there are very few( if any) locals who have the skills needed for the work they are doing. I was wondering if this situation was rife in France or were my "holiday" experiences more on par with those of you who live there permanantely. Didn't mean to skate around the issue but didn't want to come out all guns blazing
14. just one last word, wanna see if my avatar works. cool
15. Tresco, again, thank you,  I thought i had hit a nerve or something, i use other forums and people tend to be a little bit more understaning when a newbie sins so thoughtlessly. I accept that i should have used the search facility and i will never stoop so low again (imho most of these forum search facilities are shite, but don't tell the mods i said that ) sorry if i got peoples backs up for being the wrong person,[:)] sorry for going on the defensive but i'm Welsh, what can you expect PS i have removed the offensive "dish the dirt" from the original post to help to calm people who were so offended by it!
16. Hi Dick, sorry mate, didn't realise about the situation with this other character, funnily enough, i was reading through some of the other topics earlier and spotted a user called "Frankfile" and thought it a bit odd that he was on before me and chose such a weird name( it's obviously francophile, so why frank file) I can assure you that i am not that person and have no connection with him/her whatsoever( i'm sure the mods would be able to confirm this via ISP address or something equally technical) thanks franc o
17. Sorry Ron, I'm missing something, what do you mean "read the second one" second one, what?  I was perfectly happy with the responses that were responses, not just "here we go again" as i said, if it annoys you, why respond i didn't expect life stories  and anecdotes about neighbours going the extra mile, i didn't want people to say every thing French is "merde" i wanted people's true feelings of how they find the locals in their part of France. again, sorry if this annoys you i do have a job and a life, and i have as much right as any other poster to ask any question on this forum, just because i have only posted a few questions doesn't give me any less right than someone who's posted thousands of times( it doesn't make it your forum and people don't have to conform to your rules, just the forum rules)
18. Hi Tresco, thanks for being understanding, the first example is not the case! the second example? Search me[;-)] as for the attack on my punctuation? ( i assume they meant mine)  have read it through several times and can only see the lack of a couple of full stops! and even there it was at the end of a line, quick phone the full stop police....... i went to a very good school (it was approved)[:D]
19. I think my OP is concise, there are basic questions and some users gave responses in the form of answers! Sorry if "dish the dirt" was not to your taste, i didn't realsise there was an etiquette to forums like this.
20. Thanks to all who bothered to respond with constructive info (i thought thats what these forum thingys were about). I appologise, wholeheartedly, to those who found my punctuation a chore. I apologise, wholeheartedly, to those who have seen this question on the forum before but would it not be easier to ignore the question than to be snide? We can't all be computer geniuses who spend all day trawlling through the forum, looking for things to gripe about.(some of us have jobs and lives) The next step is people start pulling people up about their spelling "use the spell check", "check your spelling", if its too difficult to understand, DON'T RESPOND the world won't stop because you have'nt given your opinion (or not in most cases, just griped)   Thanks to the helpful users, to the gripers, I'll get me coat!
21. Hi All, have any forum users experienced any bad feelings from French Resi's?   you know "bloody foreigners moving over here, buying all our houses, taking all our jobs, drinking all our good wine" (we all know they only export the rubbish and keep the best for themselves) I have been on holiday many times and to many different areas of France (and love it) and only ever experienced kindness and friendliness (apart from, maybe Paris) but it's different to living there I've heard stories of British aircraft workers getting lots of hassle in Toulouse is this just an isolated incident or does it happen a lot       Franc o
22. Hi All, thought of a specific question (3 actually) 1  how much would it cost to buy a french house on the market for say €100,000  all in, all fees, everything! (only roughly, don't need to the nearest cent)   2  if your income were great enough and your outgoings small enough could you, concievably, get a 100% mortgage   3  what is the typical interest rates charged by french banks (is it better to get a UK based loan  LOL )   I look forward to your replies and will tell you the situation in Spain (if you are unaware or even botherer)   Many thanks
23. Thanks for all the info, i'm just in the "thinking about it" process at the moment so will keep you posted. as i stated in the other thread, been looking in Spain but i don't think it offers very good value for money at the moment (not sure it ever will) We used to have a static caravan in Argeles sur Mer for about 5 yrs and i really miss France and all the fabulous people we met, gotta talk my girlfriend around!!   Thanks again
24. HI, i am new to this forum and would like to ask some of the "old hands" for a quick, idiots guide to buying property in France ie.what is the maximum mortgage i can expect as a foreiner, are there ways around this how long does the buying process take? what happens and when    i have been looking at property in Spain and am pretty much up to date with the process there, is it similar in France many thanks in advance
25. Hi All, Just joined, this evening after a google search (after watching an old "place in the sun" sorry) I've been looking to buy a property in Spain but have come to realise that it's just too expensive and not very good VFM France is my first love and would have been my first choice but my girlfriend thinks Spain would be a better option workwise etc   What is involved in working legally in France?  how difficult is it to get on?   I am a Corgi reg gas fitter in the UK and a qualified plumber what are the work prospects like?   I look forward too any advice
