1. We are installing a woodburner in our new house, We bought the fire in England and all the flues etc. We have a chimney pot but no fireplace or inside flue so insulated stainless flue is going in from the sejours up into the roof space and into the chimney pot. The fire is a Clearview and total cost of fire and flue was approx 3500 pounds, husband is going to instal which cuts the cost somewhat. If you require any more info. please get in touch. Fandango
2. Thanks for the encouragement! Husband very sociable, though not  very good at the French language, so I'm sure he will find someone to ride with eventually. We did see a couple of French bikers and their bikes were actually muddy which cheered him up no end! Fandango
3.
I used to prefer the older houses in France because of all the "hidden potential". However after quite a few years of hard work trying to realise that hidden potential I think a new build on a well situated piece of land would suit me better.
Much as we would love an old house, it has suited us to buy a plot and have a new house built, which we hope to move into in September! It has taken nearly three years to buy the plot and get the house built, but again, this has been great as we have been able to budget over the timescale and make regular payments on the build, instead of buying outright. We have now sold our property in Devon and are living in a tiny cottage while we gradually transfer our home across the pond. It is not the prettiest plot but it turned out to be one of the best as the entire village is going on mains drainage and our plot  was in one of only 2 roads already on the tout a l'egout, also it is next door to the local bar/tabac, an added bonus! Shops are within a 5 minute walk and the beach is about 20 minutes away. With a 60 metre garden, completely undeveloped, "him outdoors" didn't want to have a house to renovate as well. Central heating, a wood burner and double glazing  become more appealing the older I get! At least there won't be too much to do to the house in the next 10 -15 years.   Fandango
4. Many thanks for your help. Have looked at both sites but there isn't very much close to us . I hope others weren't put off by his age as he is extremely fit and  has cycled anything from 25 to 60 miles ! (Unlike me who manages a mile or so, on the flat, and has to give up!) So if there is anyone out there do make contact with me. Fandango
5. Hi to anyone out there. We are moving to a small village near Audierne in Finistere, hopefully by this coming September. Husband is a, soon to be 60, mountain biker, who would like to have company occasionally on his jaunts into the wilderness. Is there anyone in this region of like mind. Also does anyone know of any  cycling groups that meet regularly that he could join? Fandango

Staffies

My dog is not a cross, she is staffie through and through, however only one parent was pedigree so she is not. The information I found was on the French Embassy website  where it says that non-pedigree staffies are on the dangerous dogs list. I have e-mailed them, quoting the letter from the French Minister of the Interior which says they are not, but have not yet had a reply. We are off to France on Friday for a month and were so worried by this that we are now not taking our old girl with us. What is the procedure at the ferry port, before boarding, in England? I know no-one seems to check you when you land in France, at least not at Roscoff! We hope to move to France later next year and really want this sorted out before we leave. regards    Fandango

Staffies

We have a nearly 11 year old Staffie that we are hoping to take to France when we move in 2007. However, having seen the French embassy list of dangerous dogs it would seem that, as a Staffie without a pedigree, she is on the list. Then, having read some of everyone else's postings and the letter from the French Minister of the Interior, it would seem she is not a dangerous dog. Help! I just don't know what to do. Has anyone else taken an un-pedigreed Staffie on the ferry to France, what is the procedure and did they get stopped, refused, questioned, anything!!I have e-mailed the French Embassy in London, quoting the afore-mentioned letter and await a reply but anyone else's experience will be welcome.
