It isn't 'quite' a simple cheese toasty with it's bechamel or creme fraiche, personally I prefer bechamel.

We have a friend who doesn't like meat and we have ordered her one without ham.  I never worry about this. In France, choice for those that won't eat meat is often limited and it isn't my fault it is like that.

Thanks Idun, that helps... sans jambon it is then! And yes, it's definitely the bechamel for me too!

  2. Hi

We have a couple of vegetarians in our group this coming summer staying with us in the Languedoc area. Given the widespread availability of croque monsieur as a snack we were wondering if there is a vegetarian equivalent? Or, if not, would cafes be generally prepared to make one without the ham or would this be seen as a bit odd?

  3. Hi everyone

I'm heading back to Languedoc (Banyuls-sur-mer) next year for 6 weeks as it was so great spending 4 there this year! I'm now trying to work out the best way to get there and flying into Perpignan is an attractive option. I ended up going by train this year but, good as it was, it was a hell of a long day's travel and I'd prefer to fly this time. I see on the airport website that there are shuttle buses to the station that meet most planes but I'd be flying from Southampton on a Saturday and, assuming FlyBe's timetable is the same in 2012 as it is this year, there doesn't appear to be one that meets that flight. Not so much a problem as there is one about an hour later, but just wondered if anyone knew the area and if there are local buses that run from outside the airport into town so I didn't have to hang around so long?

    Many thanks

  4. Hi

I recently received an email containing the phrase "On y est dessus, tout remarchera cette semaine". Out of curiosity I checked my French dictionaries and search engines for a translation of "on y est dessus", but can't find one, yet it appears to be a common enough saying judging by the Google hits. Is it something like "above all"? Could someone put me out of my misery please?

  5. Thanks for that. As you say it is probably OK for a month. My French isn't quite up to the task and I can't see how much it costs to recharge the 3G+ and how much surf time one gets with a recharge. And it might be difficult to get the 30€ reimbursement as I'll be in different addresses while in France and I wonder would they send it to the UK? Nothing is ever simple when people are trying to get money from you, is it [:D]

  6. Hi

As I'll be in France for a month during the summer I'd like to have the facility of "broadband on the move" while I'm there. I checked this out a couple of years ago and it seemed much more expensive compared to the UK and I avoided it. I'm just wondering what the current situation is and can you get decent, cheapish and reliable coverage on a pay-as-you-go option now? I'll be staying along the Cote Vermeille coast near Perpignan. Any advice would be received most gratefully.

    Many thanks

  7. Just to let everyone know I ended up getting a dictionary from the Nokia store made by a company called IdiomaX. I was attracted to it because it comes with an integrated conjugator. Whether it's particularly comprehensive  or not remains to be seen but first uses seem good. And at £8 it's not too bad.

  8. Hi, thanks for the responses. I've now tried the demo versions of both Collins and Larousse and for some reason Larousse came up with an error every time I looked up a word, so couldn't trust that software even though I've got one of their hard dictionaries which is very good. Someone else suggested the Oxford-Hachette dictionary which also looks very good. I guess it's between those two at this stage if there are no better ones around. If anyone has any experience of these it would be great to hear about it.

  9. Hi

As I'll be in France for a few weeks this summer and having just bought a smartphone I was wondering if anyone has any experience of English-French dictionaries on such devices? I've got a Nokia N8 and thinking it would be much better than carrying around a hard copy.

  10. [quote user="savoirflair"]Derek M, have you considered Ryanair?  They fly to Beziers from both Luton and Bristol.

    Yes,

but I'd prefer to use a proper airline, to be honest [:D] Bad history

with them so would only consider them if there were absolutely no

alternatives. I found an email address for Beziers airport so have

dropped them a line in my best French asking if there will be connecting

buses with the FlyBe flights. So will wait until I get a reply (will

post here if I get one!) to make a decision.

  11. Hi everyone,

It's that time of year when I'm planning my summer break again.
    Cool [8-|]

I'm going to be staying in Banyuls-sur-Mer in June but fancy a couple of days in Sète first. I notice that FlyBe now flies into Beziers which would be pretty handy and I'm considering that as an option rather than flying into Montpellier. As I will be relying on public transport to move around I was wondering how easy it is to get from the airport to the station i.e. are there buses, or even better are there any buses that go direct to Sète? Or, failing both of those, what would be the likely cost of a taxi?

    Many thanks

  12. Hi everyone,

We'll be staying in Antibes for the first couple of weeks in September. If anyone is familiar with the area perhaps they could give an answer to our queries?

Having never been there before we were wondering what the climate is typically like at that time of year? We're hoping hot and sunny without being scorching! While I love really high temperatures we have a couple of sensitive souls who prefer low to mid twenties. Also, would we have to take anti-mosquito measures or will we be fairly safe from those beasties?

We would like to visit some of the villages perché while there. We weren't planning on hiring a car so we were wondering if there are regular bus services or would we need to rely on taxis?

And finally, two in our party are vegetarian. I'd imagine the area is going to be heavily biased towards seafood but does anyone know of any good restaurants that are veggie-friendly?

    Many thanks

    Derek
