  1. Hi I have just contacted them and apparently it is the La Chapelle 3 stand
  2. I m not sure what number they have said its in the open grandstand just after the Dunlop Bridge with massive screen opposite. Hope it will be a good position. Thanks for attachment cheers
  3. Hi Has anyone been to the Le Mans MotoGP before and if so what is it like in the Carrefour Grandstand. Do you get a good view from here? Just booking some tickets and we have a chance to get reserved seats in this stand. What is the atomosphere like amazing i bet ?
  4. I am hoping to spend some time in France and have been told the best way to learn French is one to one teaching. I have tried the cd's etc and find them boring so wanted to know whether anyone knew of anyone teaching French on a one to one basis in area 89 (Clamecy near Auxerre)
  5. Do they have an emergency number as we do should anything happen whereby an ambulance is needed.
  6. Does anyone know how long it takes a Notaire to finalise the purchase account. We were told we have to pay more as everything is rounded up and then when everything is finalised the Notaire returns any monies owing to us. We have been waiting since July, is this the norm for the account to be settled. I keep getting told by our agent in France that the notaire is very busy and will get to it when she can.
  7. Thanks. I was thinking of a bottle of whisky what do they class as a good whisky dont want to take a cheap one. Also what do they class as a good bottle of champagne I have seen so many in our local Achun and not sure whether it is a case of the dearer the better. Maybe I should bring the whisky from England instead of buying over there. Sorry for being naive but we have only just bought our house and it will be a first Christmas in France but to any of the restaurants open on Christmas day for Christmas dinner or is it a family occasion at home. I read on the forum they tend to have large family meals on christmas eve and spend Christmas day going on walks.
  8. Thanks for the idea of price as we havent a clue. We ordered 4 cubic metres as we have none at all left from the previous owners. I will make sure I have at least 200 euros ready for him then and thanks for the idea of xmas pudding.
  9. We have just been to our house in France and ordered some logs from our local farmer as we are going over there again for Christmas and need some for then. He doesnt speak a word of English and we are not very good with French but when I tried to pay him he wouldnt take any money and we think he was trying to say they are a gift. Hopefully when we get there at christmas the logs will be there and we will try again to pay for them. If however he insists they are free then what do you suggest we can get him as a thank you in return without them taking offence
  10. Many thanks I will look up Auxerre on this sight as well, cheers
  11. Does anyone know whether I can get a train from Avallon (89) direct to Eurodisney.
  12. Sorry for being naive but can anyone explain the procedure that I have to go through when wanting to turn my barn into 2 gites for holiday rental. Obviously I have to get permisson and I assume this is done via the Maire. Any advice would be welcomed to get us started.
  13. HI Can anyone tell me if they have used a company called Qui can Help who act as agents to help with all your needs when buying a property. I would be interested to know if they are any good Thanks
  14. Builder and plumber required to give free quote for barn conversion and full bathroom to be fitted in house. Near Auxerre (89). Must be able to speak English
  15. Can anyone recommend any builders/plumbers in this area. We just need a quote for a barn conversion. Lizfjr - you state I should stay clear of some in this area but you don't say who and why or even recommend any good ones. I did pm you but you didnt reply ???
  16. Does the inheritance laws (ie that the children inherit the property) still apply if you dont live in the French property and actually live in the UK. I was told that the French laws only apply if you are living in the property and people get round this by not spending more than 6 months there at a time. Is this true. Welcome anyones advices.
  17. Thanks Will. I am now waiting for a solicitor to get back to us to see what our options are. We havent actually had the deeds registered yet, they are in the process of being done, so I am hoping something can be sorted. Thanks again !
  18. Its not the tax we are trying to avoid its trying to avoid property being left to partners grown up sons from his previous marriage.
  19. If you have a joint mortgage on a property and the deeds were in both names could you re-register the deeds and put them into one sole name to avoid this inheritance if the other partner was in agreement. No doubt there would be a cost to do this but would it be possible does any one know.
  20. Thanks Smiley this is very usefull to know. I thought cover would be very expensive and difficult to get. I'll have to get some cover sorted better to be safe than sorry. Thanks again
  21. Smiley, I have asked a question regarding Public liability under another section but no one has come back to me yet. How did you go about this and does it cost very much and how do you know how much to apply for
  22. Many thanks for all your valued advices, much appreciated. It was mainly the life policy on mortgage in event of death. We took cover out on a 50/50 basis between my partner and myself but as it is all in French we are not sure if it is exactly what we want.
  23. Thanks. I know its a drastic measure but would it still be the same if we got married.
  24. My partner and myself bought a house on a 50/50 basis. I am told now that if anything happens to him his children from his ex wife will inherit his share. Is this so even if we both get a will drawn up leaving it to each other. I was never informed of this Tontine clause and dont really know anything about it. Is this something we can do now or is it too late.
