  1. Well , that was interesting. I started a thread about strikes and just happened to mention I had been asked to help out the teacher with English. I now feel so confused . I think if I did go and help , that "Help " would be the opperative word !
  2. Do you know, that same thought occured to me. We were still in the UK when the Huntley/girlfriend/classroom assistant murders happened. At the start of the new shool year I wasn't allowed into school to do my usual parent helper duties on my day off from work, but had to wait about 6 weeks for police checks etc, I still have that form with me here(not that it would mean anything to anyone, I suppose) Do those checks happen here?  There is a man new to the village(he has children of his own) and is telling the children in general that he is going to set up a sports club in the village but will need parents to help. My first thoughts were ; That would be brilliant  for the kids and yes I would help BUT Is he qualified to teach sports? And who is this man anyway?
  3. Nice rhyme Jon D, but no Mrs lollipop is a Lollipop lady who helps people cross the road (my daughter was amazed that people do that for a job, but after a little reminder from me she realised she had used one when she was 4 and in the UK) I think I shall pop into school tomorrow and see if I can borrow the tapes and books , I assume that for this age group we are looking at what things are called, colours and numbers.
  4. At rhe reunion this week we were shown the timetable for the class, I noticed that there was a slot on Tuesday for Anglais and wondered why my daughter hadn`t mentioned they were doing English. The answer became apparent when the teacher went through the timetable and said she would be teaching Enlglish with the help of a tape and a book this year as they didn't have the funds to employ a prof d'Anglais. When I asked my daughter about it, she said it was a tape about "Mrs Lollipop" .Is anyone familiar with this tape?  Why do I ask? well during the discussion about this lesson in the meeting the teacher hinted that she would appreciate some help from me with oral Anglais !   [8-)]
  5. I have just been looking at the notices in my daughters cahier de liaison, she is in primare and her teacher is on strike on Thursday, the other 2 teachers are not though. The reasons stated  for the strike are; - 15 000 postes supprimes dans la fonction publique, dont 8 500 dans l'education nationale -Rentree 2007 : 600 postes crees pour 46 600 eleves supplementaires dans le premier degre -Augmentation incessante des effectives en classe -remplacements non assures   Appologies for lack of accents, I must buy a french key board!

    bonfires

Yes it is correct, I would not advise doing one in August, you would probably set half of France on Fire as well as having to pay the pompiers to put it out. In our area, no fires are permited from mid June to mid Sept.
  7. I am with Groupama, fortunatly I have not had to put the house ins to the test, but I did have a car vandalised a couple of years ago and expected my premiums to hit the roof on the next renewal, nothing of the sort, my car was repaired and paid for, I seem to remember I was about 70 euros out of pocket, as the vandals had slashed 3 tyres and when the garage replaced them they insisted that the fourth was also replaced as we were near control technic time(and they do like even wear on tyres!) and my premium just went with the inflation rates.
  8. Didn't SB have one of those, though I must admit that I only saw it hung on her garden fence in a photo. I was once taught to cook rice in a very economical way, get the rice and its water to boiling point cover and turn it off. When you go back to it it about half an hour it will have absorbed all the water and be perfect and with seperate grains , not mushy.
  9. I think you will find that the forms you hve been given by school is insurance, not Medical cover. This insurance should cover them if they have an accident in school or on the school bus or if they loose their bag. You should not be relying on Holiday cover if you are living here, you need to register with a GP . I would advise you to contact Newcastle and explain your circumstances, you will need some paperwork( an E form depending on your indepth circumstances) to take to CPAM
  10. Great minds think alike, I got 6 packs of mixed bulbs yesterday in Aldi at 1 euro 29 per pack
  11. Could you point me to the part of the site you have seen this info. I have just bought a NRJ phone over the internet which I received yesterday.  I thought that they state that you must use the line once every six months to keep the account open, which suits me fine as I only take a mobile when making a car jouney on my own.
  12. No. You need insurance for mopeds/scooters. All new ones now have to be registered and have a plate.
