  2. bonjour .i wonder if anyone can advise on these two taxes ,and when they are usually receieved and paid ?we signed the compromis de vente in january 7/1/06 got our deeds in august 06.we are both over 60 and will be moving permanent in 2 years time.so far we have recieved nothing ,the reason i am concerned is, we have moved house 3times in the uk since the compromis ,i just wonder if my bills are reclining in someones post box somewhere on bodmin moor!although we have faxed everyone concerned with new adresses ,including the notaires office .any advice wood be welcome merci john
  3. hi pogo .i suppose that everything would have to be perfectly square for the plasterboards to meet up properly .i was thinking of plastering the whole room afterwards .but not me personally .isover also say that you can screw! these sandwhich boards into wooden beams?i have a friend in cornwall who runs a plastering buisness .i have watched him work in an average room ie 15 by 15 in the uk the time between the first coat and the finish coat is exactly the time it takes to" roll a fag,and have a cup of builders tea!what timing!and its a perfect job . ha,ha.merci  pour le aider    john.

  6. hi can anyone offer advice on inner  wall insulation ?i have to insulate a room i am converting into a bedroom .it has block walls and i like the look of the dab and fix idea that isover produce .is it as easy as it looks?i have built an extension using plasterboard in the uk before .and the panels seem quite cheap!about  14euros per  8 by 4 ish sheet thanks for any opinions on this .merci john
  7. hi david .its the old where is my fosse question again .im still looking for ours !not really! i have taken good advice from this forum" if it works ok leave it alone" .i did notice in the summer whilst cutting the grass that some areas of grass seemed greener and looked as though pipes had been laid running down the slope .i am certain that the tank has been installed very close to the house and i am now the proud owner of some subsidence .never mind, the fosse or whatever i have works so i will stop digging about .just in case i find something nasty!

  11. hi the subject is well away from "wind damage"yes the sprints are still going on .there is mike tregoning still trying to shave a milli second off last years attempt .i can see all this from my garden .back to the wind.the wind turbines at beardown just up the road have all been rendered useless because they will only work with certain windspeeds too windyabove 45mph and they shutdown?HELLO WIND TURBINES?

  14. hi i have noticed a fairly large leak coming from the joint on the stop valve in the utility room . the leak appears to be from a crack in the valve body .i think  someone has overtightened the joint?i am a fairly good diy plumber but i,m wondering if this is for a professional .the valve in question has a red lever the main plastic pipe coming into the house from the meter the outlet side has a pressure regulator and then to the hot water tank etc.is this something i can do  ?or is it a case of j,besoin de plombier? i think i can get the valve from a brico .any advice would be great thanks john
  15. bonjour .we bought our property in the dordogne through 'french estates agents in rochebeaucourt -argentine .dealing personally with a great guy john woolley and found them very easy to deal with ,nothing was too much trouble and there aftersales help is exactly what they say it is on there website .as to how much a property is worth ,who knows ,not unless you are a property developer or something !we are delighted to have the opportunity to live in the dordogne .

  20. hi just received my water facture  ,and it seems to be excessive .VRAIMENT!the many deductions for water quality, tax this tax ,that tax ,etc .although the cost for actual water used is quite low .its obviously a french local tax thing !si seulement j,avai plus d,argent !cordialement john

  22. thanks wjt et meg and mog for your trouble .i was just being neurotic again .the weather forcasts are pretty wild are,nt they for france.my worry was the result of spending the last week in the uk retreiving my shed and my moterbike from next doors garden .at the moment we are in rented acc on an old second world war airfeild on the north cornish coast .WINDSWEPT OR WHAT! cordialement
  23. thanks everybody for the raised beds answers .and so simple !at last i have a use for those lazy ,hanging around in my pine trees catterpillars, they  can form a chain to the nearest farm and like a conveyer belt build me some raised beds?
