  1. My friends little dog had to have an op after swallowing a cooked bone, the op was a success, but afterwards she noticed as soon as he had eaten he needed to go outside for a poo very quickly. It turned out the food was going straight through him and his gut wasn't absorbing anything. He continued to loss weight despite eating well and had to be pts. I don't know how much of the history of your little fella you know, but could that be a possibility?
  2. Many thanks for all the kind thoughts and words, poppy if you are going through the same thing my heart goes out to you.

It was quick mogs, he didn't die of the cancer, but of a stroke he had the day before. I'm pleased for him as it was the bone cancer that was spreading and I understand that is very painful, at least he was spared that. I still have my two sons out with me at the moment, they go back Sunday I'm sure it will feel pretty weird then, but I have some lovely friends.
  3. Do SO agree with you Rabbie, I got it wrong once, never again. I was given this poem which I find helps....

If it should be that I grow weak,

And pain should keep me from my sleep,

Then you must do what must be done

For this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad I understand

Don't let you grief then stay your hand,

For this day more than all the rest

Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years

What is to come can hold no fears,

You'd not want me to suffer so

The time has come please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend

And please stay with me till the end,

Hold me firm and speak to me

Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see

The kindness that you do for me,

Although my tail it's last has waved

From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve it must be you

Who has this painful thing to do,

We've been so close us two, these years

Don't let your heart hold back it's tears.
  4. Chessie, many thanks for the warning, my friend who uses the same vet as me had to have his little dog put down, they did sedate him first and it was very peaceful.

I made that mistake once before PaulT, putting my needs before my pet, so much as I would like her to hang on so OH can see here one more time, I will be guided by the vet.
  5. Many thanks for your replies sweet 17 and idun, While I agree with you that I would love to argue the point and keep her, I wouldn't like to get the vets into any trouble as they no doubt have paperwork to fill out!

However it looks like it won't be a problem as she is under 20 kg, and according to your link idun, I'll be alright.

I know she will have gone but with my OH very ill in hospital, if it has to be done before he gets back, I would like him to have somewhere in the garden where he could say goodbye to her.
  6. It looks like time is finally catching up with our little dog Shauna, she was diagnosed with an aggressive mouth cancer just before we moved here over two years ago, we were told she might have a few months, she has so enjoyed life here, and OH's retirement, she has kept going, kept knocking the growth off. Now it seems it is invading her nose, and it will shortly be time to call the vet. I would like her put down at home as she hates the clinic, no problem, but someone has told me you can't keep the body to bury if it's over a certain size? Has anyone heard of this as I would like to bury her in the garden. She is a collie X lab, but more small collie than lab.
  7. Just a quick update, didn't need to fill out that bit! Took along the form, photocopy of licence, utilities bill, 2 photos and my passport.

Filled out a cheque for 25 euros, only one sticky bit, it asks for your maiden name on the form and I didn't realise it is no longer noted on your passport, so she wanted proof of that but was quite happy to hang onto the paperwork until I posted her a photocopy of my marriage licence. Also had to provide one of those trackable pre-paid envelopes (max 20g) to return it to me. Took 3 weeks, job done!
  8. Many thanks for your good wishes both of you, it means so much knowing I can come on here and talk to people who have been through the same thing. Thank you NormanH for your ever useful links you really are a mine of information, they seem to have got it under control at the moment, it's just the confusion that has us worried, hopefully scans due will give us some results.
  9. Well a bit further down the line, boy! what a journey!! He was taken off chemo to try a new therapy which would also help the cancer of the brain as well as addressing the bone and lung cancer, he was told it didn't have the same side effect as chemo, too right, much worse! He has had a terrible amount of pain which they have thrown painkillers at, that sent him do lally and he ended up being re-admitted at the start of this week. they have now got the pain under control, but he is very confused, I am hoping this is the medication, or possibly the ongoing effect of the radiotherapy which I was told would last till January, and not the start of a new tumour. Fingers crossed eh?
  10. Just down-loaded the forms to change mine, I have quite a trek to our sub-prefecture so want to make sure I've got all the bumpf right first time. Can anyone tell me who fills in the bit at the bottom that says reserve a la commission medicale? Do I have to take it to my doctor first????
  11. When we moved out in 2010 we had cover from our earnings that year, (they had to be over £5000+ for the 2 years before we moved) we applied to CPAM with our S1s and got an attestation through the post within 2 weeks, just as well as I had a fall in the garden that needed treatment! The fact that I had the attestation was sufficient. Within 2 months we had the new carte vitales, the one with the photos. Certainly didn't have to wait for a year!!!!
  12. We had the same problem, including the problem with the mixer tap. It seems a piece inside the water pressure regulator that controlled the flow had corroded over time, rather than having to have it replaced our plumber managed to buy the piece needed, not a mean feat as it must have been more than 40 years old!!
  13. Could I bother you again for another question? OH has 6 doses of chemo that take him up to mid Nov, he is assuming that there will be more after that, while I realise everyone's case is different, is it possible that the 6 doses might be it? I should mention he is being monitored after every two doses so presumably they will amend the amounts if needed.
  14. Horrible to have to say it but do think of ALL eventualities before you move, I moved here with a very active husband in receipt of a good private pension and will receive his state pension this month, 4 months before our original S1s run out. He has very rarely been ill, but has recently been diagnosed with 2 cancers a real bolt out of the blue for us. The prognosis is good so here's hoping, but DO consider could you afford to stay should something happen to one of you.
  15. Went to the etcetera open day in Lessac (16) last month and there was a firm advertising this service there, so yes, it does exist. However I didn't take any details as at the moment I have no excuse not to do it myself!! Old age, infirmity, etc!!!!
