5. There is a large marina at Benodet with  pontoon and moorings. Don't know the current situation for availability, but the Harbourmaster used to be sympathetic to fairly long-term visitor moorings, especially out of season. Contact - Tel. +33 (0)2 98 57 05 78 E-mail : [email protected] Good luck!
6.
When you say 'when in Rome...' do you mean that, for instance, if you were in Saudi Arabia, that you would think it was OK, and right and proper to stone a person, for certain crimes, or that you would accept that sort of sentence grudgingly (on behalf of another), because you were in Rome/Saudi Arabia? Just trying to understand your Point of View.
Tresco, 'When in Rome .....' means to me adhering to the dress and cultural codes of that particular country. It certainly doesn't mean that if there was a public flogging, stoning or execution, I would go as a spectator or participate. If a country bans the use of alcohol, I accept that. If there is a dress code, I accept that also. I don't see what right I have to go against the cultural standards of any country I visit.
7.
...... this is just a personal thing, but it really irks me when someone posts a potentially explosive topic, yet doesn't say what they (or in this case, you) think
Apologies. While in the Middle East I never had a problem but I also believe "When in Rome" and abide by the cultural rules and dress code of the particular country. In this day and age when security features highly in our everyday life, I think there may be a valid case for a less concealing form of dress.
8. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6160620.stm Now I wonder if we will see a similar move in the UK?

10. Just prior to leaving for France, the heater motor on my Renault Scenic stopped working. A quick visit to a Renault dealer and a cheque for £50.00 diagnosed the problem as "a corroded heater motor which has also caused the resistor to blow". Estimated parts cost - £250.00. Added to which I requested an estimate for a service and new cam belt, which came to - £500.01. Upon arrival in France, I booked the car in for the service, cam belt change, and repair as required to the heater motor / resistor. Converted to £ Sterling the bill came to a grand total of £420.00 which also included extra parts, and I even got a 10% discount off the bill. The "corroded heater motor" and "failed resistor" amounted to a loose connection and fixed at no charge. The work was carried out by a main Renault dealer and I will have no qualms about entrusting future servicing to Renault France as I strongly suspect I have been seriously ripped off by so called main dealers in the UK in the past. Incidentally, the battery on my car is 5 years old and the garage noted I may wish to consider changing it. I'll see how it performs over the winter as this is usually the time of the year when weaknesses come to light.
11.
Eh? You on the sauce tonight?
Aye, sitting here with a glass of pussers - purely for medicinal reasons you understand!
12.
I vote he's a teacher ..........
Go wash yer mouth out Chris.
13. "Sam, I'm sorry to say this, but you seem to have had a sense of humour bypass". Nonsense Dick, I've seen your website!   "Sheesh - are you a librarian?" No, I'm only allowed one colouring book a week. Oh, and a blunt crayon.
14. ".....the end result is a proliferation of threads discussing the same subject which just makes life very complicated for anyone looking for advice". May I suggest Dick, that you go back to page 4 of the 'Bread Maker' thread. If ever there is a case of life being "very complicated for anyone looking for advice", then surely this page highlights it. Bread Makers may be one of those reappearing "threads discussing the same subject" - until that to gets hijacked by inappropriate contributions.
15.
There have been a few occasions recently where (new) posters have started new threads on old topics rather than post a supplementary question in an existing thread. What's that all about? Is it this 'fear of hijacking' that some posters seem to feel - that somehow the OP has a proprietary right to the thread, or what? Whatever the reason the end result is a proliferation of threads discussing the same subject which just makes life very complicated for anyone looking for advice. Has anyone else noticed this?
"Fear of hijacking" - that's a laugh! There was an interesting thread running on Bread Makers which suddenly descended into gibberish and has now fizzled out. Talk about the kettle calling the pot black!
16. If you can find a zoo or circus, offer to take their lion droppings. Not only good as a fertiliser but also deer won't come near.

18. Untraceable cash!!! That's a joke - my good lady makes damn sure I don't have any untraceable cash as despite my best efforts she always manages to trace my hidden hordes. [:@]
19.
You could always give your doofer to a neighbour to throw "them" off your scent.
Good idea Cassis, but there again perhaps not! The cost of the neighbour using my doofer would still be coming out of my bank account!
20. This thread was going well and I for one found it very interesting, especially as I'm a relative newcomer to the art. I think we're all familiar with the various salmonella scares with regard to eggs, they've been around for many years and we are well aware of the dangers. Now can we get back to the subject before someone trys to hijack the thread spouting on about the dangers of electrocuting yourself while using the breadmaker!
21.
Salty - yes you are spied on every day (or to be less hysterical, your calls are auto-monitored for key words which would then trigger recording and an alarm) but not by your own country. That would be illegal. So the USA does ours and we do theirs.
Take a look at  the Intelligence Services Act 1994 , there is plenty of scope to intercept on a 'need to know basis' quite within the scope of the law. The use of 'Big Brother' technology can and does prove beneficial not only in the tracking of criminal elements, etc, but also in the tracking of missing persons. If you hold and use a credit / debit card, a mobile phone, a peage transponder, a passport, a vehicle with built in tracking device, or simply drive a vehicle with registration plates, you can be tracked 24/7 - quite legally should the need arise !
22. In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
23. Dick Smith 06/11/2006 "Or your phone calls - but the UK and the USA have a reciprocal arrangement so that neither spies on its own citizens". Don't kid yourself Dick, it happens everyday I can assure you.
24. Clair asked, "Am I right in thinking Windows OneCare only works if you use Internet Explorer?" As far as I'm aware Clair, OneCare is an Add-On to the Windows Live ToolBar so I would assume it will only work with IE.
25. If you do resort to moving away from Norton, don't rely on the uninstall to remove the complete program. Norton likes to keep files tucked away on your PC which can cause no end of problems in the future. You will need to explore the Norton site and find the small download which allows a complete uninstall. Ignore the negatives with regard to AVG. It is one of the top Anti Virus programs and the only one which updates on a daily basis. Yes, others may profess to do the same, but AVG actually does it. Also, as has been stated - it's free. A combination of Windows Defender, AVG, and Windows OneCare Advisor will secure your PC without costing a penny.
