  1. Thanks for the advice, I think I will go for the metal studded walls. Is this easy to construct around openings, i.e. windows/doors? As for the "visqueen condensation barrier" how does this work? what materials do you use? Cheers Steve
  2. I am looking for some advice regarding dry lining onto lime render. Is it O.K. to dry line the placo directley onto the limestone render/plaster used by thr french? If so what would you recommend to do this? Is there a product similar to dry lining adhesive in th U.K?   Cheers Steve
  3. Thanks for the info. As for connecting the the PER are they similar to UK i.e push fit, plastic? also can you purchase plastic to copper connections?
  4. I am just about to attepmt the plumbing at my house in Brittany which is undergoing renovation. I am undecided which plasctic pipe to use. I notice there are two different types. 1. The basic red and blue pipe with push fit connections - appear to be similar to the UK pipe. 2. The black pipe which is thicker and more substantial than the other and looks like it will withstand the pressure/heat better. Also the brass connections appear to be self tapping directley into the pipe, and you have the options of manifolds. Has anyone got experience of using the black pipe and can you give me any tips/hints? i.e how it connects to the taps etc. Where the best palce is to buy the pipe and brass connections/manifolds? Thanks Steve
  5. Thanks for the advice , I will give it a go!   Just on the plates for fixing onto the wall - how do they work? and what do they look like? Cheers Steve
  6. I am about to put some new partition walls up , some of which will include existing windows ( i.e. making a currently un-even and unplastered surface smooth/square) I have decided on the Placostil for the general patitions, but was wondering how easy it is to use this around the existing windows? or would I be better using the old wooden method?
  7. Thanks everyone. I will be giving the metal partitions a go next month. Just one last question: I notice that some people put montant at 500mm i.e. half way across the 1000mm board to provide extra strength. Is this necessary? Oh yes and anyone got any tips on cutting the board to the contour of the beams for the ceiling?
  8. Thanks Nick, Web-site is good, but my French is still somewhat lagging behind!! As for the crimping tool, how does that work? Does it just crimp the rail and monatnt together at the joints? What does the tool look like? Also do you know of the best suppliers in the ploermel area?
  9. I am just about to embark on building several patition walls and have been told that the metal ones are both easy and efficent. Can anyone advise on how the system works? I have seen a part built one and it looks very easy!! Do the metal stantions simply screw together? then the board is fixed to the stantions with screws? Is it possible to place insulation between the boards? What is a crimping tool and what is it used for? Is there a special tool for cutting the stantions? Lots of questions!! If there is a web site that explains all this that would be very helpful.
