  1. Thanks for the responses. However when you say unearned income do my dividends fall into this bracket. Im payed via dividends for the work that i perform, and i do pay tax on them in the UK. Im really concerned. It doesnt seem correct that i should be billed (careful not to use the word "taxed") for the same thing by both countries. Afterall these are not savings they form part of my earned income(at least thats the way i see it) Thanks villa gei diot
  2. Hi I live in France full time with my wife and children but i am a director of a UK ltd company. I travel back to the UK from time to time to work. I am payed in the UK by PAYE but the majority of my salary is through dividends (more tax efficient in the UK). Therefore i pay all the taxes that are due to the Inland Revenue. As is required i filled in and filed a French tax return in May stating all my earnings /dividends etc for 2005 thinking that the"double tax treaty " applies negating any tax to pay in France. However i recieved two bills recently, one on the PAYE element which asked for no money and another for the dividend for "Contribution Sociales" which asks for me to pay 11% of the dividend to Tresor Public, although i have already payed tax on this dividend in the UK. Can anyone help and advise me. It would appear that i am being double taxed. Many thanks Villa gei diot
  3. Because i will be working on my own, ie not employing anyone else, and paying no TVA under the Micro BIC scheme (my earning cieling is only 27K), what should i be paying? Are you a larger business? Thanks Martin
  4. Im currently going through the process of registering as an Artisan in a Micro BIC. Although my qualifications are in Carpentry and Joinery i also have the right to do other associated building works (all agreed by the prefecture and the Chambre de metier). I recently went on the compulsory business course which explained how i pay my social charges  etc (Stage).  However, i just phoned an insurance broker for a quote for my Public liability Insurance etc. Their answers to my questions were lots of "maybes" and "perhaps" but probably aroud 3000 euros PA. Im still picking myself up off the floor. Can anyone advise what their experiences are in this area ?. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a decent quote? Thanks martin
  5. Took all the advice and went to my local tax office and saw a tax inspector who took all my details. They will phone me in a couple of days for a meeting to discuss my individual situation and help with the forms. so far so good. thanks
  6. Hi Cant seem to get any definate answers to my Tax situation. Was wondering if anyone could put me in the clear. Im a 50% shareholder of a UK limited company whose main income source is derived from property rental. The other 50% is owned by my brother who lives in the UK and runs the day to day Business. Myself and my wife are resident in France and take out a small salary from this business and therfore pay NI in the UK.  In addition i recieve a dividend which forms the larger part of my salary, again paying tax in the UK.  Due to the fact that we are paying NI in the UK and return to the UK infrequently to carry out work (no work is  in France) we are provided with a workers E106  from the IR which gives health cover in France. We have our five children all below the age of 16 living with us in France. My questions are 1) Are the French authorities going to ask me to pay anymore tax on my UK income. I ask this question because although i pay tax in the UK i am now resident in France and tax in France is higher (i think). 2) Because we are a family of 7 what effect will this have on my tax situation? 3) I am considering the idea of working in France (im a qualified carpenter/builder) and am considering setting up with SIRET etc. I realize that i will have to pay into the Social System and will lose my E106. But will that mean that they will take a view on my UK income. 4) Can anyone recommend an accountant in 47/32 areas. thankyou MC
