1. Hi guys - quick lunch beside PC and PDA. Here's the update. I have been into the router config and changed the settings as described above. Then set the PDA to WEP and inserted the 13 characters. WOW - off she goes like a whippet. BUT - the WiFi connections from all the guest PCs fails having changed their encryption to WEP and so on.There is no way that I can see to get the guest PC's to connect. The host (as you rightly said earlier) is connected to the router by Ethernet. I was nearly opening a Guinness then ..............
 2. Cheers folks for the responses. Danny - in chiffrement - the key is visible in character format (so that you can identify the actual characters) and its as I have input into the other PC's and iPaqs. I know it off by heart (how sad is that). MAC is désactivé. The only options for systeme are - désactivé - WEP - WPA-PSK. The latter is the default and is the system I have established on the guests. pachapapa -
The way to solve this is to check the Box frequency; then open the WiFi driver software Graphic User Interface then select the Advanced option ; this will activate all the configuration parameters which are normally greyed out under the General Tab. Then enter all relevant parameters SSID, WEP/WPA, etc and also the Channel frequency in agreement with Box frequency; the laptop will then connect and the configuration entered will remain in default. The already configured secured french FAI Boxes can sometimes be awkward to connect to for the uninitiated as the standard Windows Wizard does not work FOR ME with either XP or Vista.  It is possible often to connect IF the box MAC address filter is disactivated and the manual configure a home WiFi connection option with the Windows Wizard is used.
This will take me a few re-reads to understand but I'll have a go at it tonight when I get back.
 3.
Are you sure number on bottom of router is not a MAC address? Odd for a WEP or WPA to be on the router. Are the PDAs showing the same SSID as the PCs connected on LAN?  YES What is the default WEP active on the WiFi configuration page accessible via one of the PC with Internet Browser and how many characters? This is a 20 digit code which is shown on the base of my router, on the browser page for my router, and the same as I have used on all connected PCs. Are you entering the WPA number close packed without hyphens? Yes - exactly as shown - no spaces or anything You mat be getting truncation because hyphen spaces are being included in the character count. No - when I insert the key, it shows only 20 asterixs.
Thanks pachapapa - Its all looking correct but no connection
 4. Hi - I have recently changed from Alice ADSL to SFR/Neufbox ADSL. No problems with the changeover and in fact, we went from circa 700kbs to a little over 2MBs. Great thus far. I have connected the NeufBox via Ethernet and have 4 PC's running off it, as I did with Alice. Here's where the problem kicks in. With Alice I was able to connect the 2 PDAs (iPaq hw6915 Windows Mobile 5) no problem. The onboard WiFi on the iPaqs picked up the WiFi signal and once the key was input off they went. BUT, with NeufBox they will not connect. In the connections settings for the iPaqs I have tried to input the 20 element WiFi key that is quoted on the base of the router. This is the same key I have used for the PCs. The iPaqs not only wont connect but each time I go back into the settings the key has been reduced to a smaller key. The iPaqs see the router and identify it correctly. In the Authentication section of the config set up, I'm asked what type of authentication. Options are Open - Shared - WPA - WPA-PSK. I have chosen WPA-PSK. The only Data Encryption choice I have is TKIP. I can insert the 20 digit key but it will not connect. (When I look into the Properties of my NeufBox WiFi ADSL connection on the config application for SFR on my host PC it shows as WPA security type and the Encryption type is AES. I have changed this to TKIP and entered the 20 digit key but nothing.) Any of you clever folks have any idea what I'm doing wrong or havent done? Cheers.  [8-)][8-)]
 5.
OK, enough of this 6 Nations nonsense! Visiting elder son and I have just spent the last 2 hrs + half a bottle of Remy debating the Lions squad (35). Our squad is as follows: Forwards: Sheridan, Vickery, Hayes, Jenkins, Murray, Flannery, Rees M, Mears, Wyn-Jones, O'Connell (c), Hines, Kennedy, Haskell, Jones R, Wallace, Williams M, Heaslip, Powell Backs: Blair, Phillips, Jones S, Cipriani, O'Gara, Williams S, Bowe, Lamont S, Evans T, Roberts, Shanklin, O'Driscoll, Evans M, Byrne, Kearney, Lewsey, Armitage D  Our starting Test XV: Byrne, Bowe, O'Driscoll, Roberts, Williams S, Cipriani, Phillips, Powell, Wallace, Jones R, O'Connell (c), Wyn-Jones, Murray, Flannery, Sheridan. Discuss !!!
Go and wash your mouth out Gardian [;-)] - for some of us, its way better than watching over inflated semi soccer type prima-donnas from the GP. Now that should create a wee reaction [Www][Www] As for your Lions selections - generally no problem - but (banging on my drum again) not that loose wingnut LIABILITY VICKERY. I dont mind it when he costs England 6 to 9 points a game but not the Lions. McGeechan could surprise you though. Personally, I'd love it if he didnt select ROBOT O'GARA. That would make the IRFU sit up and take a bit of notice for a wee while. In his place I'd be very brave and opt for a good thinking OH and Goode has shown smart moves this 6 NATIONS (I knew I'd get to mention it). Not so sure about Gerry Flannery either. He has failed to deliver between the Autumn tests and this years 6 NATIONS [;-)][;-)] During this 6 NATIONS  [Www][:D] I've been very impressed with Andy Powells work rate. He is definitley worth a selection. Other than that, no surprises in your selection. Have you spoken to Geech yet [:)]
 6.

Oh deep embarrassment and shame on my behalf, I am for always getting names mixed up, I meant Peter Stringer (the little bald headed chap) for his off the ball tackle in the first half. Well I mean they look the same don't they, they all have green shirts [8-|] .
I think Stringer only came on for the last 15 minutes or so of the match.[8-)] I mate of mine went over for the game too, and he's fed up about spending so much money to see a 90 minute kickfest.[:D]
Peter Stringer came on with 8 minutes and 46 seconds of normal play left in the 2nd half. Come on Quillan - how many Guinness. [:D][;-)][:D] Match tickets these days are just getting totally silly. We went up to Paris for the Stade Francais v Ulster and the good stand tickets were 65€.
 7.

how O'Driscoll got away without a yellow card I don't know and it looked like a try to us.
??? Come on Quillan, spill the beans. Could you see something we couldn't on the telly?
Good man raindog I thought it was something I'd missed. Mind you, I've come away from Dublin after a weekend on the Black Juice and even forgotten my name [:D][;-)]
 8.
how O'Driscoll got away without a yellow card I don't know
Morning Quillan I hope your head is better [:D] What do you mean by the quote above? I have no idea and watched the highlights again to see if I missed something. O'Driscoll was exemplary and aside from being targeted by one or two of the English guys, he held his cool and let the ref deal with things. Sadly, the ref was somewhat soft - especially for the cynical Armitage blockage and the head ramming from Flutey. But I dont see where you are coming from on the yellow for O'Driscoll thing. How many Guinness did you have then - come on be honest [:D][;-)][:D]
 9. Thats a shocking thing to say Le Plombier [;-)] powerdesal - maybe its because I didnt shut down the system. I simply went around the house and unplugged everything, therefore, the meter was running ordinarily and then I reduced the loading. Just a thought.
 10.

That said, Scotland seemed to have put something together yesterday albeit against inferior opposition. I didnt see the match as I was building a new BBQ
Smart move UR99 - it was absolutely dire. Well at least the bits I watched were: fell asleep shortly after half time.
Ha - I know the feeling Gardian. [;-)] Quillan I hope the trip was worth it, result aside, and the Guinness was as good as always.
 11. Morning dragonrouge - how's the painitng going? From day 1 I have said that the last match of this years 6 Nations will be the decider for the Grand Slam or at least the tournament itself. That hasnt changed. I dont see much now that can upset this as Wales will destroy Italy and we will win against the Scots. That said, Scotland seemed to have put something together yesterday albeit against inferior opposition. I didnt see the match as I was building a new BBQ - and lighting the old one for a pre match session [;-)]. What a glorious day it was yesterday. England v France could be a very good match if they both play as in their previous couple of games. Johnston should have settled down by then and be lifting his lads up again. We must revisit the obvious problems we face if we are to leave Cardiff with a win. O'Gara, whom I have never liked and the stats bely the real howler he often is, needs to go. Problem is who replaces him at such a vital time. Our sssssssssssssslllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ball from rucks is killing any advantage we have created and this insane kicking away of possession is just that - insane. Either way, Cardiff on the 21st will be, hopefully, a real cracker - with the right result of course too. [;-)][:D][:P]
 12. Sorry powerdesal - I dont know in short. Thats what it was reading when I had unplugged everything and it started from there when I switched on the kettle.
 13.
UlsterRugby - I raised a glass (or two) to you last night because I know where you would have liked to have been today (and last night probably).
Good man yourself Quillan - and boy did I need them. [B][B] The result was good from an Irish perspective, but the manner in which we got it is a worry. That said, England made it hard to play and set out to confront up front hard and fast and they did so quite well. Overall, and despite Care's stupidity and Vickery AGAIN (why oh why do you guys stick with him - he's a total liability) the English performance was a step up from the Welsh match and Flood isnt the lame duck that many say he is. Goode has a good thinking head on him too. Armatidge is a disgrace. His cynical play (or rather non play) should see him left washing the boots after the match. He'd be better on a stage where his acting skills would be put to better use. Despite the indiscipline, which we knew would be the English downfall, Johnston should be pretty happy with the performance. We were in trouble during parts of the game and it could so easily have been a different result. And dont let me hear how bad the ref was. There should have been more yellow cards than we saw. He did a pretty decent job of trying to let the game run despite Flutey's disgraceful non tackle. I recall that we were told you must use your arms/hands to tackle. Not your damn head. [:@] One of the things that has bugged me so far this 6N's has been the very quiet touch judges. There have been many infringements, on and off the ball, which have happened in front of the TJ's and not picked up by the ref, who obviously cant see everything, but I've seen very little flag raising from them. Is this a new IRB instruction ????????
 14. Wales all over again. They were non descript tonight. NO penetration and far too much self belief. Too much Hype about an under scored French team. No kicker. I tild you so. They had a NEED and they did the doings. Great match to watch though.
 15. Okay - here's the results of the Ulster jury. Everything turned off at sockets etc and nothing plugged in at all. When I went to meter the counter was at 32w. It stayed there and didnt move until I plugged in a kettle to boil 1 ltr water. The counter started to increase in number and after 1 minute of use, for the kettle alone, had increased by 35w. It took 3 minutes to boil the kettle and the counter stopped dead at 137w. So it remained constant at 35w per minute for the kettle. So, I guess this indicates that the counter is working fine. I take it that this indicates that I must simply have excessive use or does it .......................[8-)][8-)] Any thoughts anyone
 16. Funny thing is, that our neighbour is one of those winter wonderland eegits who has every available light show gadget on at Christmas time. Its so bad that air traffic controlers from Limoges & Poitiers redirect air traffic away from the area. And guess what - NO - consumption went down for a week or so. The meter is in the white external box and is the one with the blue select button which then runs through 8 or 9 readouts. Its also the one that the guy from Soregies reads.
 17. Cheers Anton - our chauffe-eau is about 2 - 2.5 years old. I now have a water filter operating but thats recent. maybe it is choked up. I'm going to check the electricity this afternoon so I'll let you know how that pans out. The wee meter looks a great idea too. I'll see what our test results are first.
 18.
As to Dublin my favourite place for a rugby week end and Gresham Place is a wonderful area.  Then before the game bacon cabbage and pots is it?  Guinness never tastes as good anywhere else as it does in Dublin.  They are a great crowd and very welcoming.
Ah God Almighty dragonrouge now your pulling at my heart strings. Dublin Coddle and a few pints of Guinness is one of the greatest pre match feasts ever. [:(][kiss][:(]
 19. Quillan - have a great trip mate. Hopefully your bank manager will extend you an overdraft as a trip over to Dublin will hurt. But what the heck - its a rugby weekend. To be a ref is a thankless task as you cannot get it right every time and we all have a good old moan from time to time about this and that decision but this is wicked. Its nearly paranoia. Woodward was a superb coach and the proof of the pudding was 2003 RWC. HE actually set out to exploit opponenets indiscipline and with Wilkinson he had it all set up. Anyway, bon retour Quillan my Guinness is in the fridge chilling as we speak. [B][:D][B]
 20. Cheers Pierre ZFP. I had searched for a few days before posting and hadnt come across this one. Anyway, I have 2 600w toweling rads which will click on and off for perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 of the day. 1 fridge, 1 freezer, 1 fridge freezer, 1 2.5kw chauffe-eau (kept on 24/7). House, at present is heated by warm air from wood burner and thats about the bulk of it. As I say, the stand by stuff (incl all computers etc) are now turned off. Last weeks consumption was 400kws.   I'm off to test the system by switching everything off.
 21. I have been tracking our electricity use and have become concerned that our weekly usage is, circa, 350 - 420kw. So, I started to ask our neighbours what their consumption was like. Like us, all are on a 3 phase supply and many like us have a loading of 20amps. Unlike us, many of them are farmers with machinery, plant and welding gear all hammering away. Unlike us, they are using, in some cases, 1/2 what we are. So, I went to Soregies who supply to the Vienne and asked could I have the meter checked. Impossible they cried. Our digital meters cannot be wrong. They are, after all, digital. I have since this, been keeping a weekly check on the read out and, in addition, become very vigilant about turning off everything that is on standby, especially at night. Despite this, the actual usage has either remained the same or. as in last weeks example, its gone up by 20%, yet it has become milder and there has been no one in the house during the day. So, question time you clever folks - Is it possible that the meter could have a problem?
 22. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/english/7906837.stm  Ah dear me - I have heard some tripe in my time but this is just woeful. Sure, compete in the breakdown, but when the ref is yelling at you "No hands 4" and a whole plethora of instructions, and you either chance your arm or are too stupid to listen then he'll let rip with a yellow and rightly so. But to come off with this crying dung is a nonesense. Sure you get harsh decisions, but the yellow card count isnt high by bad luck, its purely down to terrible English indiscipline and we've all been talking about it since the start of the autumn tests.
Nevertheless, England - who have a slight injury worry over second-choice hooker Dylan Hartley - have accepted they need to address their discipline if they are to have a chance of victory against Ireland
So quit crying, quit chancing your arm, quit whinging when you get caught out and get on with the game. With attitudes like this the whole core of rugby will disappear.
 23.
Rumour that along the lines of London Irish, London Welsh etc  we will now have Brive Brits and Stade Englais !
[;-)] raindog - I see. [:$] Some people thought that the Italians would roll over and die against Ireland. That was never on the cards. They wanted to avenge the terrible set up of the week preivious. They are a very physical force under normal circumstances but they were just sheer brutal, virgung on the violent, on Sunday. I think Chris White was also taken aback in the first 10 - 15 minutes with the ferocity of the Italians and quite rightly sin binned within 2 minutes. Anyway, as for Friday nights, Ulster have always played their matches on a Friday night (except when Murdoch dictates otherwise). I prefer it for matches such as the Magners and the Heiny but for internationals I think Saturday and Sunday are better, probably as they are a weekend event with many many followers travelling. Sadly, the TV owners and sponsors are taking over more and more each year. Next we'll have intervals every 5 minutes for an commercial from such and such an advertiser much as they do in the States.
 24.
Italy/Ireland has got to be one of the worst games I've ever watched. I had to switch off for the last 5 minutes after that last interception try - couldn't stand any more.
Holy God raindog - just look at the penalty count. Just look at the number of scrums. Just look at the blood substitutions. Italy went out to destroy us, physically, They went out to avenge the dung they played against one of the worst English performances I've ever witnessed. They went out for blood and they bloody well got it. In every sense of the word. I'm proud of the Irish and not just because I'm Irish. Because they stopped brutality and might and feckin hard nosed gurning forwards from destroying our beloved game. They stook two fingers up the nostrels of a team who had naff all to offer but brutality. Wales are good. Wales are very good. But they can be beaten and England showed that it can be done.
 25. If you are referring to Andy Powell, the Welsh No8, I was very impressed by his work rate. His run yards, hits, off loads and all were incredible. He put himself about all over the park and just wanted the ball. Surely, bejaysus, he must have some Irish in him [;-)][:D]
