With the house came an Amsta POELES A MAZOUT heater ...a big brown convector type with oil container and burner...it is quite new and in the outhouse is two 40 gallon drums of red fuel for it. I havent a clue how to light it and no instructiions as to how to use it . so would appreciate it if sombody who has used one can explain what you do with it ...Its shown on sites still by providers of this AMSTA heater but I cant find any instructions as to use .....only price etc . I have never seen anything like it in the UK .

Probably not a lot ....except that the tagine base seems to be an inch or so thick and as the oven drys out and burns everything from the bottom in no time even on low I thought it was worth a try and it worked.....they are not supposed to be used in an oven but if it does the job... .great .and we should be able to use it on a gas ring as well...so . a cheap answer to a problem for me .

Angela ......I just used it like the terracotta "Brick " we have in the UK with the potatoes and carrots put round with an onion or two and sort of pot roasted ....the tagine seals the moisture in ....didnt dry out which was what I wanted it for they have such a thick base that took the heat .....I have just looked at Moroccan recepies for tagines ......one for lamb shanks ...with olives dried fruit that sort of thing so will have to experiment more got to try that !

I have posted before on how the bottle gas cooker we have can burn from the bottom everthing in the oven ...as it cooks so hot ... and this seems to be what others have experienced.cooking with butane .. I have discovered the Supermarket were selling Tagine's at 9 euros each and it has saved the risk of burnt offerings by cooking the beef in very well .Hopefully dried out meat has become a thing of the past.... now I am going to have to find out how to really use it. anybody else use one ....

This all brings back memories .......standing with other kids outside a house when the bride came out to go to church and her dad throwing handfuls of pennies for us kids to scramble for ....and if he did not "hoy oot " shouting "shabby wedding " ..........do it today somebody would be arrested for causing a breach of the peace . As for Penshaw Hill .....have sledged down that into the barbed wire fence at the bottom ...... on a sledge with runners made in the pit head workshops .... where most of the kids got them from . .

Thanks Cassis .......There are 2 places in La Tranchc sur Mer one is a camp site another a hotel ....so will give it a go there .....I read that Mc D's will give you an hour or two free if you buy a "happy meal " ...what next !...must have been in the USA .

I have now got a laptop to take to France to keep in touch.......I am advised Mc Donalds is a free "Hotspot " for connections .there is one near me in Lucon so ....does XP connect automatically there ...has anybody had to suffer their coffee to use their hotspot for internet connections so is it easy ....help out an old man with a brain stuck in the crawer lane these days when it comes to learning new computor stuff.

Jon.........I would not suggest that there is nothing wrong in taking the fish at an angling club meeting .......not if you want to get out alive !!
Perhaps if we get enough Poles keen enough to buy farmed carp then yes there is a business opportunity.....but at the moment the sight of Stanislav in the local carp lake in his face mask and flippers spear gun in hand makes club anglers blood boil .

If you go for Open Office fine .......but " BE WARNED " there is an offer for 4 free CD which includes "Open office " from a bunch of ****** called "Think All Publishing " all you pay is the postage .....Once you give them your card details for the postage like a book club you will be sent software you dont want and a return address that is a box number in the US that the mail will not be delivered to .....n After 10 days they will take the cash out of your card as it was not returned to them ...........I have read the blog on this lot selling software you can down load for free ............they have caught loads of people ..but .not me !.........If you have come acccross them and you have been caught then ...you can always contact your Card issuer and tell them you think it has been compromised and get a new card issued .....

Yesterday I was talking to a guy who is active in the club fishing world. He was explaining that there is now a need to post notices in various languages at UK lakes to educate our newly arrived East European citizens and stop them taking the fish. It would appear that some think that the fish are there for the taking and the idea of stocking the lakes for angling by clubs they dont understand..Big carp are eaten in their home countries and netting and spearing with scuba gear are being used in the lakes. Swans have also been taken for the pot ....This got me thinking.... so Chris.....please tell me ....the few swans I have seen in my local area of the Marais Poitevin are just because most are elsewhare , they are protected in France are they not ? .

If T B had any guts he would have had Brown in by now and told him he was not having anymore plotting and to clear his desk...If any of the ministers supporting Brown were unhappy with that .... he could tell them a box would be left on the steps of No 10 to chuck their resignations in. ......Clean sweep is needed ...start again... to put an end to all this in fighting. ... and then announce he is staying on in the job . .... What was wrong with 12 coach trains .... like the slam door ones pulled by a thumping great locomotive .?.... People could get on and off faster and what a crowd you could move on one of them .!

You are so right Ian.....we are visiting a friend who is now in a private rest / nursing home .....He is aged 92....his house is now up for sale to pay the £700 per week to cover his care ...........his daughter living in Scotland aged 70 is not able to look after him. If she should have to go into a home also ...she does not have to sell her house to pay for her care in Scotland.....What sort of system in the so called "United " Kingdom is this .? ...oh I forgot ....most of the ministers with clout are Scots are they not....and fixed it so means testing for their kith and kin does not come into it..

We have picked loads today......they will just have to go in the freezer......wash ...half them ...hook out the stones... into food bags with a couple of big tablespoon fulls of sugar and in the freezer until its time for another b****y crumble .......we cant give them away ..everybody has laden trees this year .

You are correct about keeping coffins out of sight Dick..........years ago there was a special siding at Waterloo Station where trains were loaded at night and bodies taken to Brookwood Cemetary .

More by luck than judgement today I spoke with my broker about renewal of my car insurance .and just mentioned I would be out of the UK when due for renewal.. I was then reminded that my cover was for a total of 45 days in any year out of the UK and did I need any more ? Had this not been mentioned.... and my insurance not due for payment this month .... my soon to be trip would have pushed me over the 45 days this year....This was the last thing on my mind ... counting the days this year I have been in France.... or if I needed to ring the car insurers if the sun comes out and I want to stay longer. Some insurers give 180 days inclusive out of the UK in any one year cover....like mine others dont .....somthing to else to think about when you buy and regularly visit your house in France ....

There are some good offers . with .SNCF ..Paris to La Rochelle in under 3 hours for 50 euros is good ..........Anybody know what a 34k taxi ride is likely to work out at ...roughly ? Lots of Ryanair " fly for one penny " flights on offer as well ...just pay the taxes .

Noticed Ryanair doing lots of taxes only deals now.........checked out Stanstead to La Rochelle for our next trip 15 days September into October and it came up for the two of us....... £69.52 return..........We need to hire a car so that bunps it up a lot towards the ferry fare ...but anybody who does not need to hire a car and has Ryanair into their local airport ....these deals are worth checking out now while they are still available .......

It seems he went over the top of the ray while diving off the reef and the toxic barb strike came up and hit him in the chest.....they normally swim off so just how "hands on " did he get while filming .?....very sad .
