  1. I am an American citizen married to a French citizen. We are moving to France shortly. What are the steps I would need to do to become a French citizen or at least get an EU passport? If things don't work out in France we would consider moving to another EU country but as far as I know I wont be able to work in a EU country with my American passport (and French Carte de Sejour) Would I have to give up my American citizenship? I heard that it is actually hard to give it up but nobody has been able to explain to me how.
  2. Looking to possibly rent a small commercial storefront in Paris. When going through the listing I see somthing like this... Loyer 1000 Euros/HC/mois + cession 80 000 Euros Now I understand the rent is 1000euro a month but what is this cession?  Is that a one time fee? does it go to the landlord or is it going to the person who has the lease currently? And lets say if I decide to close shop in a few years, do I get to ask for a cession to the person coming in, to recoup what I paid out or possible get more?? Does it kinda work like equity?  These are empty spaces so it's not like I am buying into a business. Any help is appreciated.

  4. Thanks.... Looks like all I need is the application, my passport, Livret de Famille and  French National Identification Card  of my French spouse. Also looks like I apply  for a residency card at the Préfecture upon arrival in France. Not sure of anything beyond that. Like would I have to renew my visa every year or so? Do the French have an equivalent to a Green Card where I would be something close to a citizen or would I have to denounce my USA citizenship? Hopefully the Embassy can answer those questions. And hopefully opening a business with a French spouse might be a bit easier then some of the stories I have read.
  5. Hi all... I am looking to relocate from USA to France (Paris) in a year or so. I recently married a French citizen. We might be looking into opening a business but at the very least I will need to work. I'm not sure if the process is different for me (us) then if I were just an American looking to relocate on my own. I contacted the French embassy and all I was told was to make an appointment to see them, which I did. I want to make sure I know what I'm asking for before I get there. We are looking to relocate there 'permanently'. I'm not sure if a long-stay visa will work for that or if there are other actions I need to do once I am there. Don’t know if this makes any difference but we were married in Paris and our marriage is registered there. Thanks for any help.
