  1. Easier still if the builder is obliged to do it and all the paperwork necessary.
  2. I was assuming that I could lay concrete over the cobbles to achieve a flat 'garage' floor, Not visible from anywhere really other than when working on the jalopy.

  4. We would be Independent but for 55% of the country who believed the three Amigos would provide substantive powers ....Of course while the suspense is killing us the Govt continues to borrow a couple of million per day to service debt...wonder where the money comes from....sooner that wall gets re built...:-) ..Nice to be back!
  5. I am fortunate (I think) In that most of my outbuildings adjoin the house or each other and therefore the house... I would like to use one of the former cattle sheds as a garage and need to make the existing door a bit bigger. Do I need to go to planning? Answers on a Permis de construire ...:-)
  6. Hi, Health is fine at the moment ...thanks for asking!
  7. I would have thought that with a semi disabled person in the house that one would require a level access as a means of escape! In the UK houses are built without steps for this very reason. Basic human right as another poster said and the DDA legislation came from Europe if memory serves. If that be the case then the house builder may be required to provide level access by law?
  8. Cheers all, 15 or even 50 mb doesn't sound like a lot though but what would that be in terms of say facebook browsing terms?
  9. I am looking for a reasonably priced way of getting internet access while in France. No Wifi near us and mobile signals dodgy unless Orange. We are only there a few weeks of the year and the house is a project so don't want anything permanent just yet. I was wondering if I could get an Orange phone on unlimited net access and use it as a modem to run a laptop for myself and the missus. Would this fry a phone?...is it even possible? Thanks
  10. If there is sufficient room you could use 'slip couplings' or make one out of straight joints by removing the ledge or 'stop' inside. glue a section of pipe inside the top of the branch to create a 'male' to match the 'male' spigot at the other end. Cut a section of pipe out the length of the fitting and slide the slip couplings up the remaining pipe at either end. Offer up the fitting and working quickly apply loads of pipe adhesive cement (You may get light headed lol) to the area the fitting will occupy and slip the joint so that it is half on your new fitting half on the old pipe and the fitting inclined at the required angle. Do the same at the other end et voila! one connection!
  11. Hello Mate - you sound like a nice chap...but you probably have a Honda..could go out in darkness 'spose :-)
  12. Cheers Pierre...I may be preparing for a bumper cherry harvest or repairing a chimney.
  13. Air source heat pumps combined with heat recovery and solar evac tube / thermal store can be quite an efficient way of working particularly as the thermal store can top up on cheap overnight electric and free solar during the day.
  14. Wire brush or scotchbrite abrasive pad, sugar soap, then oil base undercoat.(Zinsser do a good one)..leave for a week ...paint your heart out. the undercoat will take to the oil base yet provide a suitable medium for water base.
  15. Anyone rented a cherry picker in 53 and if so any recommendations? Are there any pitfalls in rental ie. will they rent to a private individual and do I need an IPAF license?
  16. As per the title. I have enjoyed my bike borne wanders en France over the past few years and have had a laugh with my British friends. I feel it's time to extend the hand of friendship to some (non intimidating hopefully) French friends. I often see ride outs passing my door and think it would be nice to tag along for the company / camaraderie. Anyways if anyone has any ideas ir knows of Bike related social events where a Scot who is getting on a bit may be welcome...
  17. I don't know the 'other' forum and don't need it. I am a sinner however and life takes over meaning I am a rare visitor to this place. I do have good intentions though! Invariably I find 'nice' people here who are giving of their time and often patience which I really appreciate and in turn try to give advice when I can (I will leave it to others to decide whether my input is of any value) I don't think this place has a comparison and am grateful for it .
  18. Hi Gyn, I would recommend avoiding conventional dpm if possible. Try going for the studded alternative which allows air movement across the face of the wall then Montant and rail metal stud with Kingspan or similar insulation fitted as the studwork goes up so that it is tightly trapped then spray foam with mousse expansif any tiny gaps and board with moisture resistant plasterboard. Laying a tile batten below the bottom edge of the board behind where the skirting will go and removing the batten once board is fixed. This helps prevent any damp transmission and when skirting is fixed it isn't seen, There isn't any slump of laine de verre doing it this way just remember to allo space for gaine if putting in sockets / lights.
  19. Hello, I meant to check the flue size for my Rosiere stove last time I was over however I forgot - I think its 6 inch and Flue liner kits are reasonably priced over here (about £300) I was thinking of getting one and taking it over ....or perhaps they are similarly priced in France? Thanks for any input (as always) Mac
