Thanks all for your replies.
Not being a garden at all I had no idea what they are, but I'm glad to hear that they are not a pest and quite harmless, so they are more than happy to carry on as they are. After Clair had said what they were, I did a bit of googling and read a couple of your links ventodue.
Never having done any gardening before aquiring our sizable french one, I'm sure I will be back with more questions. Hopefully I won't look too much of a dumbo.

Hello.
Whilst doing some gardening on a lovely warm day last week I noticed on one of our trees these,

what look like flat ladybirds. Are they?
There were many 10's of them crawling around. Some were in the cracks of the house wall. On a much cooler day they were still there but huddled together and less active.

Thanks tj.
No luck with finding commune website and I sure your right about getting it from the Mairie, just thought it may have been quicker to download from somewhere.
La Guerriere, I have pm'd you.
Regards.

Hello.
Before contacting the Mairie, does anybody know if it's possible to download the application form for a fosse septic. I have google'd and searched a couple of forums but haven't found anything which I think is the right one. I believe it's a 'demande d'autorisation installation de fosse septique'.
If it can be downloaded, I'd been grateful for a link.
Regards.

No tips for you I'm afraid Twinkle, but you'll have a brilliant time. I saw AC/DC at the NEC, I was 8 months pregnant at the time, back in 1991. It was enough for me to wave my arms about let alone head bang.
Have a great night.

Hi all.
In our area the telephone numbers usually start with 05 ** ** ** **, I have a number that starts with 09 ** ** ** **.
Could the 09 number be a premium rate number?

Simple rule:
connaître = (to know) people / places
savoir = (to know) facts

Am I'm right in thinking that you knock off 5% of the total surface to take into account the thickness of the walls.

Thank you gosub.
That's exactly what I found earlier on an urbanisme web site.
Good [I] idea about making one.

Hi,
It's ok, I've been doing a bit more searching and I think that I have found may answer. If I understood correctly, there is a seperate board for a DP.
-
Hello all.
Just a quick question.
The notice board that one displays outside their property for a Permis de Construire, is this the same board that you use for a Déclaration Préalable?
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
Since writing this thread we have (in August 08) completed on the sale of the house. At the signing with the notaire, he advised us to write to the Maire before the 15th Dec (08) to inform him that the house was (and still is) uninhabitable.
Following his advice, I wrote to the Maire at the beginning of December and sent the letter recorded delivery. Should I have received something from him. As of yet, we have received nothing.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I thought there would be less in France. I'm glad to hear that it is similar to here.

Jonz, no need for a hole, so stop digging, get out and fill it back in.

Geez Pads, that makes about as much sense to me as a text from my teenage son!!
I stand, sit, lie and run corrected!!
I'm a bit confused [8-)], it doesn't take much. Why do you think you have been corrected? As far as I can see your equation was correct.

Or, approximately 4000sq metres = 1 acre.

I was sat here thinking about us due to put up our christmas decorations this Saturday. We have some outside one's to put up, icicles from the guttering. It's the first time we've had outside decorations.
We have yet to spend a Christmas in France, something we want to do (hopefully) in a few years time. I was wondering, do French households put up outside decorations like we do in the UK.

Thanks for your sympathies Ali-cat.
My son hasn't noticed yet as I've hid the fish bowl behind the window curtain, out of sight, out of mind. Maybe lucky enough to find time before going to work tomorrow to replace them. Fingers crossed.

Well my cats are in the dog house.
I've not long been back from Christmas shopping and they / one of them have eaten my youngest son's two goldfish. [6]

I too was 36 when I had my fourth child. I didn't feel at all old, but my brother thought I was. He was horified I was having another child at 'that' age. He said 'you'll be 54 when he's 18' as if to say 54 was incredably old, which of course it's not.
I agree that there are many in there 70's and older who are in good health but one doesn't know when our good health will start to fail. It often only takes a relatively short time. At 80 she could be a totally different person and perhaps be too frail to look after her child. It's the child I feel sorry for. Children want there parents to be as active as possible, it's part of there childhood. I would feel awful if I couldn't do such activities like the mum's race at school sports day, beach games, theme parks, etc. I would hate too that there could be the possibility of the child being made fun of at school for having aged parents.
There is of course that a young parent could have health problems, but the risks are lower and less likely.

Is Angus Young still full of gusto? Looks like it from the pic.
