[:$] Do I feel stupid now. No wonder I hadn't heard of that shop.
Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Shame I'm not there at the moment to take advantage of the sales. I've not heard of SAV, I'll have to look that one up.
Regards.

Hi.
What shops are the best, price wise, for buy a washing machine and a fridge freezer?
I've looked at the Conforama website, but I'm stuck to think of others. I know the big Leclerc's do white goods but I haven't had much success with their website.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Ahhh, thanks Claire.
I also tried vervolter with no luck. I did wonder if I was spelling it correctly.
Thanks too Âme for the link.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Odd it's not in my huge dictionary.

Hi all.
In context of the weather, what does 'virvolter' mean? I've looked in all my dictionaries and an online translater and nothing comes up.

That's ok if you are in France. I'm guessing that maybe the OP wants to do the transfers whilst in the UK.

This is a wonderful outcome, well done you. Enjoy the rest of your season.
By the way.....who's Harold [8-)]?

Hello fatscoleymo.
We are in the hospitality bussiness like many others but here in the UK. I can't say we've been in the same or even similar situation to you. I'm sorry that you are being taken advantage of.
My advice is to echo what Dave has said. You have to nip this in the bud and learn from it for the future. I'm afraid that at times you have to be quite thick skinned in this kind of bussiness otherwise you will be walked over by some. I'm sure you were being hospitable on the first night, but it's dragging on and they are taking you for a softy. You are going to have to toughen up a bit. Me, I'm a real softy and if it was left totally to me we'd be out of bussiness in a year, but my husband is the tough one, but that doesn't mean you have to throw your weight around.
However, that wasn't the question you asked. This is how we perhaps might deal the situation. I would tot up who and for how long has stayed, obviously not including the first night because you agreed to that and you have to honour that. Sooner rather than later, don't leave until the day they are leaving, find an opportunity to have a word with one of the booked guests. Not when they have had a drink either (we know what that's like). I would choose the one who appears more understanding. Say to him/her that there is (not seems) a misunderstanding. Explain to them that you only consented to the first night and that they must pay for the subsequent stays. You may get a response along the lines of 'what difference does it make?'. Well a lot. Rooms and bathrooms need cleaning. Linen needs washing, drying and ironing or sent away, outside areas need maintaining, etc, but I probably don't need to tell you that. It's costing you money and you're in it to make money. Also, I agree with Dave, I don't think it's a good idea taking your dues out of the security money.
If you're not used to approaching people in this type of circumstance it's not going to be easy, you (possibly) don't know how they are going react. So stay strong, firm and keep your cool. Be polite and never loose your temper (I'm not saying that you wouldn't be polite or that you would loose your temper). Remain the one in control.
I hope that all goes well for you with these and all your future guests and that you have a good season. It's only a very small % (in my opinion) that push their luck. They most likely will feel a little embarrassed and be out with their wallets/purses/credit cards pretty smartish.
All the best.

The solution Cathy needs is to make tap water safe for fish. It neutralises chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals which are harmful to fish.
-
Hi Cathy,
I know exactly the stuff you need. I don't know what the word is in French, but having a stab in the dark, what about 'traitement d'eau'.

A couple of years ago we found ourselves in a similar position. In brief , bought a plot of land with CU, it's close to expiring as was told by the Mairie that renewing would be a waste of time and urged to put in P de C pdq because the PLU and zones were changing. Indeed it did, to a zone naturelle.
Later, on another matter but sort of related, I went to the Mairie, and the secretary very kindly copied onto disc the PLU for the whole commune, not just our hamlet. It makes a very interesting read, and includes maps with the different zones marked out, rules and regs etc.
Like you, I have google'd my socks off trying to find information on the net, especially more specific and detailed. It maybe worth a trip down to the relevant Mairie to see if they are willing to do the same for you as they did us.
I'm not sure if the rules of a zone naturelle (for example, but from memory I have other zone info) are exactly the same for each department, if they are, I'd be more than happy to send you the info.
Or have I got it wrong and not talking about what you are talking about.[blink]
Regards.
If I remember correctly the use of a guest is limited to 3 times per membership year. For the actual member it's unlimited use throughout the year.
I wrote this earlier but I'm not sure if this is the case any more. I cannot see any details of the number of times a guest can travel in my literature or BF's website, so it may have changed.
-
Actually now, its unlimited and everytime you get someone to use your number you get a £10voucher for a reduction off your next crossing!
I haven't read the literature that comes with the POC for a while. Is it the guests who can have unlimited travel?
I haven't received a voucher, is it something that had been introduced recently. I'm trying to think when, exactly, a guest used my membership. It may have been more than 12 months ago. Ill have to ask valB.
Also the food on the BF crossings seldom change. If a restaurant continued to go along these lines they would soon be out of business.
I so agree. We recently travelled overnight on BF new ship the Armorique. We tried the self service restaurant for an evening meal, which we have not done for many years because the food was, in our opinion, dissappointing and not good value, and again it was very dissappointing, same menu and not that hot. Shant be dining again.
Also, for me, I've been less than satisfied with the cooked breakfast on previous ships, so I opted for a continental with fresh fruit and cereal and the rest of the family had cooked. I enjoyed it but then you can't go wrong with a continental. My husband has vowed never to have a cooked one again.
We had high hopes that the new ship would have improved on it's menu and quality of food, but no, it was exactly the same.

We have often offered our guest facility to friends and family. It's a good feeling to have when you've helped somebody save a few £'s on their trip which otherwise would have gone to waste, so to speak.

Yes, I agree, that's a lot of soil to get rid of. We have almost an acre that with could spread it over but I don't think it would be a good idea because the majority of it would be subsoil.
Another consideration for us is not really being that proficient with a digger. Perhaps a possibility is to have someone dig the trench's and bed etc, and take away the soil and do the rest ourselves. Or is it that the bulk of the cost of an installation that part.
We continue to ponder.

Hi.
Thanks all for your replies so far.
The photo's are handy, I didn't think it would make that much mess, but our garden is far from perfect having just recently put back very untidily, about 1500m2 of topsoil that we moved for foundations for a house that isn't going to be built now. So I'm not going to bother tidying it up until the fosse is in.
We are still trying to decide if to DIY or not. I think my french is up to it.
Regards.

Hello.
Can anyone recommend any fosse septique installers in the Civray area or a bit further afield. We are on the borders of 86, 79 and 16 in the Poitou-Charentes region.
Also, in people's experience, is it cheaper to DIY (husband is a builder/carpenter) or have a fosse installer do it.
Figures based on a 3000l tank, no grease tap, all pipework and manholes etc, sand, gravel and geotextile (feutre), very easy access, loads of room, no need for excess soil to be taken away, a 'lit filtrant vertical non drainé' of 25m2, and any other bits and bobs I can't think of at the moment. Oh, and a digger plus driver.
I am asking how long is a piece of string [blink].
Regards.

I know the strip you mean, Angus is not what you can call sexy, but I agree, a very talented guitarist.
Enjoy Marseille you two.

Nah, not me Pads. I was too far away from the stage and my aim is terrible.
Yes, Twinkle, he does put us to shame. I don't know how he keeps going. Was he wearing his school uniform or has he grown out of it?
That's one band I'd love to see again.

Fancy that. Good wasn't it.
'How come you didnt say hello' must have been the lighting, couldn't see you. Just think, we could have been beside each other.
Yep, must be destiny.
