1. PPP wrote 'a bunch of foolhardy prats in Wales'.

I too take offence at this generic remark. My husband's grand-father worked down Big Pit all his life. He was not a prat at all. He was a hard working, warm, kind, modest choir singing man.

I for one am grateful that there are men (past and present) who are brave enough to do this dangerous job.

It's a tragic story. Thoughts and prayers to their families.
2. We have been members for 6 years and always have made huge savings.

Eg: next month we are off for 12 days, Roscoff to Plymouth and back. We made a saving on that crossing alone of £149.70 plus 4 breakfast to the value of £7.50 each.

We often do this twice a year so save well over £350 per year and the POC memberships costs us £90.00 per year.
3. Evening all.

A few years ago the euro used to be written eg: 1.265, but more commonly today it's written as .79.

I know how to convert .79 to 1.265 (1 ÷ .79 = 1.265) thanks to Clair, I think, can't find the post.

Does anyone know how to convert it the other way round? Eg: 1.265 to .79.

Thanks in advance.
4. Thanks all.

I've googled ray grass and that's exactly what I'm after. I want to retain a rural and natural look as we are in a hamlet surrounded by fields. There aren't going to be any animals (well the children might come in to that category) on it but I want something a bit tough.

I agree, I'm sure the farmer will know what to sow, but I just wanted to clarify it with him. I don't want a lawn as such.

Good point. I don't want anybody chasing after me as we are not farmers, we just have a big garden. Mouth is zipped.

5. Hello all.

A local farmer is going to turn our ploughed field into a flat usable field. He is also going to sow it with grass.

We don't want, and I don't think he will use, lawn grass seed, but I do want to clarify with him that I would like agricultural grass so that it looks like a field not a bowling green.

What is the word for 'agricultural grass'? Is it 'l'herbe d'agricultural'?

If not, does anybody know the word that I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

6. We, fairly recently, bought on line from Darty. It was our first time buying online from a french company and I was in England at the time of ordering. Dead easy but you need to have a french telephone number, either mobile or landline.

You can also book a delivery slot up to two weeks in advance and it's free. Two men delivered and were more than obliging. I asked to check the two appliances (fridge freezer & washing machine) whilst they were still there and they even unwrapped them for me.

I would recommend Darty, but I'm sure other companies are equally as good, I've just not tried them yet.

Hope this helps.
7.
Thanks very much for your answer, but  I really  need  a lawyer.
Sorry Frenchie, my French isn't that good and thought that notaire was a lawyer. [:$]

What is french for lawyer?

Hope you have a satisfactory outcome which ever route you decide. Good luck.

8. Whehay! Poolguy's website has now come up, on AOL anyway. Still have probs with IE.

I daren't close it now just in case it doesn't come up again. LOL. I'm not sure how long it took to load because I minimized it when I saw 'loading', and came back to it.

Thanks to all of you for replying.

9. Hi,

We are on broadband (in England). I'm not having much luck at all. This may need to be moved to the computer section. LOL.

Each time I go to go on IE I get a message saying

'Cannot find file. :///c:/program %20files/aol%20.toolbar/welcome.html' 'Make sure the path or internet address is correct'.

Now I'm not sure what this means. I have aol running (minimized) at the same time, but have tried it without and still get the same message. I close this message (each time it pops up) and then it looks as if IE is going to come up, which it sort of does but it continually says 'connecting', but never does. I leave it for ages. Once or twice I have closed it and get a message 'to help protect your computer, windows has closed this program'.

Well this morning I uninstalled the IE that was on my pc, then went on AOL and downloaded IE8, thinking this would solve my problems. But no, I still get the same (1st) message and continually says 'connecting'. I'm at a loss. I always use AOL, hardly ever IE, even though a few months ago I went on it and it was fine. I'm not having any problems surfing on AOL, just poolguy's site, well at the moment.

So what's the problem? Have I done something accidently that I don't know about.

Any advice gratefully received (in very simple language) please.

10. Hi,

Well I have tried again with no luck. Internet Explorer has always been a pain for me, takes ages to load up and this time a message keeps coming up saying something about a 'path' and 'connection', but means nothing to me. Mozilla and Firefox are foreign to me to. As you've probably gathered, I'm useless with pc's. Nevermind.

I'll keep trying.

11. I suppose there are always going to be pro's and con's where ever you buy from. I'm definately going to buy a brand I've heard of and probably from somewhere that's within an hours drive, just in case I need SAV.

Even though I'd not heard of the brand FAR, I didn't want to dismiss considering it just in case it was a popular one in France.

Thanks for all the responses.
